This might be overkill, but another way to avoid dropping the little nubbin in the frame might be to plug the hole completely; you could have a drift on the bottom of the tool with common seatpost sizes. Then the tool would sit in the frame itself which might also free up a hand in the initial setup of the tool. Thank you for applying your incredible depth of tool knowledge into making your own!
