I think we can succeed long term but the solution, in a general sense, requires reflection on, and reconfiguration of, our own societies as much as analysing Chinas and their authoritarian partners. The 'unsavory core' of those relationships are there to be exploited. Fundamentally they seek control, we need to learn to let go of it, to some extent. Which societal model would fair better using a decentralised monetary system like Bitcoin? How much financial manipulation does Chinas BRI grand strategy require? What type of monetary system would look more appealing to emerging African economies, not just to governments, authoritarian or otherwise, but to populations? I don't ever hear this kind of 'out of the box' thinking. No doubt the prospect unsettles some, but are we in it to win it or not?
BRI reflects an engineer-led nation rather than Western finance/lawyer-led nations, plus a way to apply Mahan on land.
