You must have been on the VA side. Agnes washed out the concrete bridges on the MD side; after the flooding subsided the first one was about a hundred feet or so downstream from where it should have been, upside down, the entire span and I-beam intact, sheared from the abutments. Quite a sight. The high-water marks at White's Ferry show Agnes as the highest flood level.

I remember seeing the Falls shortly after Hurricane Agnes in 72. & many times since. The Potomac is a powerful place .
