Fabrizio Spaggiari aka Jazzy Fabbry plays by ear QUEEN's smashing hit: GOOD OLD-FASHIONED LOVER BOY.
"Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy" is the third single from Queen's 1976 album A Day at the Races, written by Freddie Mercury. It was one of several British music hall-inspired songs composed by members of the band.... and i always found it undervalued. So i made a tribute with this piano cover. Hello! Wonderful cover!! I’ve bought the music sheet and am in the process of learning to play this! In this video, on the second half of the second bar, where the left hand plays a G and C octave, the Cs are a whole octave lower than they are in the sheets. Which is it meant to be?

Hi!! I’m still working my way through this piece and have a couple of questions. I’d absolutely hate to be a bother, however, so please reply only if you wish. ^ ^
1. In the 12th bar, as C on the left hand is played alongside DGBD by he right (0:27) ; how do I play this without creating dissonance? I have replayed the video over and over and have not been able to figure out how it sounds fine when you play it, but not so nice when I do. Is it because you’re playing it fast? Is your left hand much softer than your right? Are they not quite played at the exact same time? I suppose the dissonance is resolved a bit when I get to the B octave but I just can’t help but feel like I’m missing something here. I really can’t figure it out.
2. how are you using the pedal in this video? I know the sheet says ad libitum, but I can’t quite get it to sound right. :’-D

Hi Ollie, you're no bother at all, I m glad to know that you find my version so inspiring. The best way to avoid that dissonance is both to play the left hand softly and to use the pedal as little as possible. The left hand accompanies the melody, so it has to be very delicate: It s not easy, it needs practising but believe me, that s the way to go, always. I wish I could show you how to do it personally, hope that these tips of mine will be useful though. Consider that Queen harmonies are very rich and complex, especially those in the songs of the 70s; Freddie Mercury was a great composer and loved to experiment. I'm working on Lily of the valley, Seaside rendez-vous and lazing on a Sunday afternoon atm: they're so beautiful but so hard to be arranged. Have a great day and thanks for your attention!
