- On what is another beautiful Spring day, I decided to visit the pristine "Mill Creek Falls", a pristine oasis consisting of the highest cataract in all of Cuyahoga County. The setting is absolutely gorgeous ... a deep and heavily forested gorge that is located amid an urban and highly industrialized portion of Cleveland's city limits. It's a rare gem that many locals are not even aware of.
That's my old 'hood! I never knew the falls had a name until a few years ago. When we were kids we used to sneak into the "gully" the tracks ran through (our parents forbade it because "bums" who rode the rails had camps down there). We'd start at Big Rock, and walk the trail around to the falls. They were very polluted then, but it was our version of being in the country.
It's definitely different now that it's part of the metro park system. We used to go down there when we were kids.I grew up there on Connecticut ave.
This is one of Clevelands hidden gems, however. Dont go there after dark or alone, the area is extremely dangerous when the locals are out and about.
