You need opossums, turkeys, Guinea ‘s, chickens , they just love ticks!! I’ve had a significant reduction in ticks since I’ve encouraged opossums. Also when you pop ticks you are expressing eggs. Put alcohol or heavy salted water in your container. (Wipe the tick site with alcohol also to kill eggs or tiny ticks on the skin )That will kill them but keep the eggs inside and they die. If you are popping the ticks over the ground, or are not cleaning your instrument after popping, you are spreading ticks. That may be one of the reasons you are having an increase in ticks.

You really don't want to let a single one go cos they breed really fast and we had them all over the house. It was a huge chore trying to get rid of them.

Just a quick comment - never try removing tics by grabbing them by their abdomen. Just use your forceps/tweezers down to where the tics have inserted their mouthparts and pull straight out!
I remember those hot muggy Tulsa summers picking ticks off Tyson, my retriever/ pit bull mix. I miss him. He was always in hog heaven when I cleared those pests off him
I’m sure someone has already said this but those are engorged dog ticks and when they have reached that size there is usually a smaller one underneath it. You can also drown them in alcohol at the vet we used to use a jar and throw Them by away when full.
I’m always really worried about my cat and my dog because they have really fluffy fur and it’s really hard to see text so that’s why I like to check my pets often, but my axolotl is fine
