Rhinox became my favorite in recent years, he was the first case of a Transformer being openly and innately spiritual, and it was something I just found really interesting. Ironically, one of my favorite Rhinox moments comes to Cheetor as a vision when he powers down to allow Rhinox access to one of his components to fix the pod that is later revealed to belong to Airrazor. The vision version of Rhinox mentions how when sparks come online, there is great joy in the universe and how when a spark is extinguished, the universe weeps. Rhinox was openly spiritual but in a way that felt less preachy and more open to everyone around him; he was the most brilliant of the Maximals, and while he wasn't a spiritual leader, he also did make some very spiritual comments and explanations. When we hear Optimus reading from the Covenant of Primus, it's Rhinox who explains what Optimus is reading and even states where he is reading from in Covenant. We actually see Megatron quoting the Covenant of Primus in the final episodes of Beast Wars, and Optimus even points out that Megatron didn't finish the quote when Megatron quotes a particularly bleak verse at Optimus during their fight. Maybe a future episode can cover spirituality in the Transformers continuity and how it has been represented, along with notable spiritual bots in the franchise.
@@thenewbaronzyafton6860 Back when the show was airing, Dinobot was my fave as well, he's still in my top 5 bots list but he's not as close to the top as he used to be
I am not naturally a very spiritual person, believing more in logic and science, so having Rhinox be not only the brains AND muscle of the Maximals, but also their spiritual anchor, I think affected how I see the universe.. And being a Transformers fan since forever, I tend to think of The Allspark as a little like Final Fantasy's Lifestream.. the source of everything to which everything returns. And since science itself has proven nothing can be destroyed, only TRANSFORMED, its state altered, there's definitely something in that! Thanks, Rhinox. 💚🦏
That blew my tiny mind, too; I wondered who the other gorilla was, and when Primal said his name, I did a doubletake. He's come a long way from being a convention-exclusive character..!
It was just hasbro looking through the long list of maximal/autobot names for something monkey-sounding and going "lets use that one!" for a character that dies in like a minute.
I hope Dinobot shows up in the next film. Not having him in the movie feels like doing an X-Men film without Wolverine. Doable, but something's missing.
It was such a joy to see the boss monkey on the big screen. I just wish my favorite Maximal, Rhinox, got more screentime and lines. Awesome vid as always.
I hope the guy who came up with the Maximal name by combining the name of a GI Joe subline with a car name is getting a lot of residuals from his throwaway idea being used everywhere
My one of a few nitpicks with the movie I wish they were all in their robot modes longer so we can see them more closely and absorbe all the details Other than that it was a perfect transformers movie and sequel
The Maximals having robot modes comes across as such an afterthought in the movie. They only transform briefly at the start of the final battle, but before that battle is even over, all of them are back in beast mode. Makes me think they were originally gonna be beast mode only for the whole movies, and having them capable of transformation at all was only added fairly late into production after most of the climax had already been rendered.
agreed, I can get behind saving their robot modes for the final battle so we can have the MAXIMIZE line, but then we barely get to see them in their full glory _during_ that battle outside of their transformation, which even then is kinda rushed and blink-and-you'll-miss-it
I noticed that too, but it could be a nod to how extended use of robot mode in the Beast Wars cartoon led to malfunctions. Maybe there was a cut scene where they mention that?
Does anyone know if there's ever been an explanation for the size discrepancy with the Maximals and Predacons? As was mentioned in the video, they were originally small beings, in line with the actual animals they transformed into, but these days they are often portrayed as being the same size as the Autobots and Decepticons. That's never made much sense to me, especially when they have realistic animal forms (like in the War for Cybertron animated series).
The in story reason for the Beast Wars/G1 universe is that after the Great War, Maximals and Predacons alike underwent a downsizing to smaller, more fuel efficient forms that also allowed them to more easily interact with other, smaller species across the universe. Chris mentions it in the video. Other franchises like the new film simply have them the same size as the other Cybertronians.
For the modern incarnations its probably so they would matter more in a fight with other cybertronians, at the same time though their beast modes arent explicitly said to be for disguise like the vehicles so its no real problem for them to be this massive.
@@Depth217 funnily enough the original optimus primal concept had him being the same size as king kong. his and megatron's alt modes being inspired by that movie.
Back in the day I used to write my own fanfiction version of Beast Wars with many of the toy only figures added in. I had a whole extra episode planed out where his stasis pod crashes in the ocean during the tail end of season 1. Unfortunately, being aquatic bound, I never found much use for him outside of specific spotlight plots, so I just had him off-lined for all of season 2 after getting caught outside during the Vok death ray. His TM2 form gave me a chance to reintroduce him in in season 3 and tying him into a more indepth plot on the origins of the Transmetal Driver that otherwise just showed up out of nowhere in the show. Also, with Depthcharge around now as well as beast modes no longer being necessary to prevent Energon overload, I was able to write TM2 Cybershark into more epodes than his original form.
I was hoping you'd do Airazor. To be honest, I prefer the Maximal line up from Beast Wars Season 1. I have have toys of all seven season Maximals and all seven season one Predacons.
"Um, ackschually" there's plenty in Rise of the Beasts that points to the Maximals being from the future. Not just the "we're from your past and your future" line, which is clear enough on its own, but also the pretty unambiguous one about Primal being named based on the "legendary" Optimus Prime (which is clearly a later, more mature Optimus than the one in the movie).
I really like how Rise of the Beasts had the Maximals living in solidarity and peace with the indigenous people of Peru. It really played well into the overall theme of intersectionality and teamwork in the movie.
after watching the movie, i felt enough fan service, but now i still want a beast war movie even more. It would give the maximals more lines and screen time. the descendants of autobots is still a great idea, but if they were to reimagine the franchise, i could see them as alternative universe versions
I have a feeling that the Maximals from the movie actually are from the future. The movie has alot if hints towards this being the case. Plus, transwarp technology travels through space AND time, so this is definetly still a possibility
@@MDestron2282: Vague in terms of exact time period, but still explicitly from the future, since Optimus Primal mentions taking his name in honor of Optimus Prime.
Primal outright states he's named after Optimus Prime in the movie when Optimus asks about his name. Primal says he was named after the legendary warrior then tells Airazor later that Optimus Prime isn't how he imagined he would be. I thought that indicated they were from the future.
One thing I don't understand is that sometime the Maximals and Predacons say their names followed by either Maximize or Terrorize to transform but other times they just say Maximize or Terrorize without saying their names first or just simply transform without saying anything at all.
I have to say I’m disappointed with how the Maximals in IDW are just cannon fodder and in particular how Primal was basically nothing. I think if they needed Unicron to have a massive army they should’ve used the Energon Terrorcons the explanation could’ve been the were part of "Onyx Prime’s" tribe who perished on Antilla then millions of years later when Unicron awake it used their corpses as templates for a mass produced horde. This is kinda funny to think of after ROTB where Maximals and Terrorcons fight against each other. Additional I wished they’d made Optimus Primal in IDW based on that little profile for him in that Power of the Primes Next Prime poll that described him as a warlord on Eukaris. I like the idea of Primal being someone who’s grown sick and tired of the tribalism plaguing his homeworld and seeks to unify all the tribes no matter how harsh or crazy others my see him "One planet! One people!" Sure he’d still be an antagonist but at least he would’ve had a personality too.

Awesome video and I did see TF Rise of the Beasts the other day and it was truly awesome and I still feel nostalgic about Beast Wars both the series and original toys and my favourite Maximals has always been Dinobot and still remember how hard it was to get his toy as a kid but those were wonderful times.
It made me sad to hear all the other maximals are just dead in the movie continuity. It might make for an interesting story how they all came to their demises defending their part of the transwarp key
I would have loved for Tigatron to have appeared on the film. They could have even used him on the first scene as a sacrifice for the others to escape and later or in a sequel to comeback already fused with Airazor. It was a missed opportunity imo 😢
I liked how beast wars took Airrazor from a "little sister" to rhinox and cheetor to being romantic with Tigertron. Her treatment in the movie really angers me.
Dont know if said, but i dont think the maximals in the new movie are transformers that evolved on another planet because of three interactions in the movie. The first being a line from air razor, "we are both your distant past and far future". Then later when primal says his name and says hes named after one of cybertrons greatest warriors. The final one is where air razor and primal are talking and she asks, if i remember right, is this the prime from history and primal responds with he is young. Those interactions lead me to believe that while they are ancient by the time we see them in the movie, that they are from the future and used the transwarp key to travel to the past.
I am a big fan of the Beast Wars and Beast Machines series, so am glad their legacy has not been forgotten. Can't wait to see the movie, and hope it does justice to the characters.
Air razor was the clear standout Maximal. But I gotta admit that Primal just stole my heart with sheer badassness. I loved his robot mode. Sorta like a ninja Optimus Prime. Loved the designs overall.

I always liked the idea that they evolved smaller forms to be more efficient and use less energy because Cybertron was ruined and almost drained of Energon after the war.
Seeing the size difference between them when they found the Ark is something I'll always remember.
"Maximals, maximize!"
wait how the hell was this 4 hours ago
huh, neat
Roooarrrr!!!!
How in the world was this 5 hours ago💀
Rattrap, MAXIMIZE!
It's a shame we never hear rhinox speak but he looked awesome with his hammer smashing terrorcons here's hoping he speaks in the next movie and I hope they bring in both infernos in the sequel
His voice inth’ jap series was epic!
We barely got to see them fight dissapointing
@@Mojavekight17 agreed
I think they ran out of budget, heard there was a whole deal with Mirage getting remade to rit his va more and then being set in Peru.
It actually got two words of dialogue, we have to live with that
I kind of like how the movie versions of the Maximals are kind of a happy medium between the Autobot descendant original version and the Cybertronian colonist versions from IDW.
They're not colonists in the film
@@novustalks7525 it's very heavily implied they are, since we know/can assume they're not the descendants of the Autobots like the original series, since Primal literally tells he named himself after the legendar warrior of Cybertron Optimus Prime. And considering they had the transwarp key in their hands, it can be assumed they were a seperate colony that, using the key, set out to explore other worlds, before eventually colonising the world we see them on at the start of ROTB as their homeworld
@@anorak3334 The same line implies they are from the future.
The key allows them to travel through space AND TIME so it's purposely vague
@@anorak3334 their planet is earth in the distant future. That's why they have earth animal forms and why the tower is identical to the one in the final battle and energon is everywhere
Ratrap has always been my favourite. Was the first Beast Wars toy I got. Just loved his snark in the show.
Optimal for me. Had his first and third form
Mines dinobot
I like how primes helmet becomes a ceremonial headpiece for the future high council
Still really crazy that Apelinq showed up in the first five minutes of a major motion picture.
Well that’s just prime.
Optimus Primal really has grown to be my favorite beast warrior.
But yeah the 2018 TF IDW "Optimus Prime" series really put new spin on Maximals.
I hope Dinobot shows up in the next film. Not having him in the movie feels like doing an X-Men film without Wolverine. Doable, but something's missing.
We’re also missing Ratrap and tigertron
In Kingdom Primal said that Dinobot would have made a terrible Maximal.
But he really was the best of them. He lived with honor.
It was such a joy to see the boss monkey on the big screen. I just wish my favorite Maximal, Rhinox, got more screentime and lines. Awesome vid as always.
There's still hope for the other two movies
It was OK. I kind of wish he was in his robot mode more. He even went back to gorilla form during the battle, lol
That's me with Cheetor.
I hope the guy who came up with the Maximal name by combining the name of a GI Joe subline with a car name is getting a lot of residuals from his throwaway idea being used everywhere
I doubt he's getting a single solitary dime for it
Nice work Chris !
It really brings me joy that the maximals (and my boy Primal) are now world famous.
Truck AND monky indeed
Seeing these dudes in live action was so cool
I love how their designs are a blend of fur, feathers etc and the mechanics of any cybertronian
“Well, that’s just Prime.”
1:00 That is... way more obtuse of an origin than I would have ever imagined. Ever since 1996 I've always assumed it was simply "MAXIMUM" + "MAMMAL" 😂
I don't think it's only mammals.
Like they have birds like Airazor and fish like depth charge
I think my favorite Maximal has to be Tigatron. His spiritual and reclusive life style in Beast Wars really won me over.
@@hostiledodo1150agree with you but the maximize line was so good
@@tommyboy3427 yeah that made me dance in my seat ngl lol
And what about that bat dude and that croc dude?
@mkhanman12345 They are the original toys for Optimus and Megatron. The show chose to use larger gorilla and t-rex toys instead
My favorite Maximal toy is the deluxe Beast Wars Cybershark. It kinda makes me wish he had a role in the cartoon or at least in the comics
He was in the 2006 IDW bw comics and the 2021 one too
Well,
Incase you don't know already,
The Trans-Metal version of Cyber Shark would be recycled into a new character;
The Haiku spouting Sky-Byte
@@Mekboy_ComputerMonster skybyte is just a repaint? That's disappointing to hear
@@novustalks7525 Not really disappointing;
This is a series that, from it's very inception, LOVES to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Let’s hope more maximal will appear in the live action universe. That’ll be spectacular.
I have a feeling that the Maximals from the movie actually are from the future.
The movie has alot if hints towards this being the case.
Plus, transwarp technology travels through space AND time, so this is definetly still a possibility
Well, IIRC, either Primal or Airazor mentions being from the Autobots' past _and_ future, so that looks very likely.
@@Brickerbrack Yeah. They kept it purposely vague for potential future movie plots.
They are. Their planet is future earth
One thing I don't understand is that sometime the Maximals and Predacons say their names followed by either Maximize or Terrorize to transform but other times they just say Maximize or Terrorize without saying their names first or just simply transform without saying anything at all.
Ahh my childhood, I had a small army of beastwars toys growing up.
I miss them 😭
Get back to collecting bro
One people!"
Sure he’d still be an antagonist but at least he would’ve had a personality too.
Its also sad that they're baddies 😢
Anyone else notice that Scourge in the Movie had killed Predacons as well as different autobot symbols.. any chance you could go over the badges Scourge had
there probably needs to be a whole update on the Scourge video, as well as the Terrrocon one.
According to the Transformers wiki: "The various insignia he wears as trophies include the symbols of the Decepticons, Autobots, Maximals, Predacons, Terrorcons, Mercenaries and Wreckers"

I find amusing that the ruler council in the japanese continuity consists in a bunch of maximals that look like Optimus (or Convoy if you like).
If Beast Wars taught me anything, don't turn Rhinox into a Predacon.
Also still waiting on the Basics of Tarantulas.
In Transformers Animated, the Maximals even has a cameo in "Predacons Rising."
Right, time to go down a drunk rabbit hole and see if I can't buy some 3rd party beast wars toys lol
My fav Is ratrap, Dinobot, I wish they were back on RoTB
I wonder why we never gotten a Maximal or Predacon with a human alt mode? I think that would be an interesting concept especially if it's used for infiltration.
The maximals looked awesome in the movie. Primal was one of the best parts from the movie! His personality really fit well with his original counterpart.
Beast Wars wasn’t my first trip into Transformers but it was the one that hooked me.
Great video.
Awesome video and I did see TF Rise of the Beasts the other day and it was truly awesome and I still feel nostalgic about Beast Wars both the series and original toys and my favourite Maximals has always been Dinobot and still remember how hard it was to get his toy as a kid but those were wonderful times.
And don’t forget the that some of the others maximals can also transform the ways as the predacons like Blackrachina and Dinobot
Chopper face aka Dinobot I hope he makes a comeback someday
The Maximals are perhaps the most heroic Transformers faction ever, without them, all the universe would have been wipe out
Great to see the Maximals in live-action. Hopefully we see them again soon.
I wonder if Primal and Cheetor are going to get updates because of this.
It made me sad to hear all the other maximals are just dead in the movie continuity. It might make for an interesting story how they all came to their demises defending their part of the transwarp key
Another great Saturday morning classic!! 10 out 10!! Great job!!
I'm only watching til the part where the spoilers for Rise of The Beast then I'm clicking off but I'll be back when I seen the Rise of The Beast.
I would have loved for Tigatron to have appeared on the film. They could have even used him on the first scene as a sacrifice for the others to escape and later or in a sequel to comeback already fused with Airazor.
It was a missed opportunity imo 😢
My favorite Maximal is Rattrap and my favorite Predacon is Inferno.
Dinobot is my nomber 1, waspinator is 2 , rattrap is 3, inferno is 4 and quickstrike is 5
Beast or Bot, The Maximals will always Maximize and Rise to the occasion.
I am a big fan of the Beast Wars and Beast Machines series, so am glad their legacy has not been forgotten. Can't wait to see the movie, and hope it does justice to the characters.
I always thought the name came from maximum and mammal.
Air razor was the clear standout Maximal. But I gotta admit that Primal just stole my heart with sheer badassness. I loved his robot mode. Sorta like a ninja Optimus Prime. Loved the designs overall.
