Thank you for the tour of the world of Chatelaine. I really appreciated the video on Egypt, thanks so much. What eye candy. I'd love to stitch a Chatelaine but when I saw the purchasing experience I would have on the site, oh man, I ran so far away. Good to know about European Cross Stitch. Thanks. You seem so grieved talking about the Queen. I'm sure it's been a very moving experience loosing a beloved monarch. I can only imagine. When a beloved president leaves office after only 8 years, it's hard for me to say good bye but the queen, well that would be a lifetime. That is truly, well, she must've left quite a void for sure. Very sorry for your loss.
I'm really glad I found this video. I have the same Chatelaine pattern and have been procastinating starting because I can't decide whether to do 2x2 or 1x1 lol and I haven't seen anyone else working on it with the flosstubers I follow. Looking forward to watching your more recent videos and seeing it come to life. And your egypt piece is phenomenal. Gorgeous work!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed the episode (sorry about the movie length)! Travelling Stocking Stitcher is a fabulous Flosstuber. Watching her always makes me want to start stitching a stocking!
Judy, just wanted to thank you again for your previous enabling of the 10 year calendar/planner. Mine just arrived and it is glorious (along with a sticker book, they were Amazon travel buddies)! I was gushing about it and I am not sure my Husband understood my high level of excitement 🤪. Not only was the price PHENOMENAL, but the layout was better than any one year calendar/planner I have previously owned. Now, time for me to watch you and learn about Chatelaines!
Thanks for yet again trying to guide me thru my pocketmags issue. It worked!! I was able to download and print from "my library" today - and it helped greatly that I turned off the Pop-Up blocker!!! (Don't ask!) Thanks to you also for showing your progress on the JBW design, Country French Crown. I was able to find that at Shepherd's Bush in Utah. Not sure when I'll start or if I'll use just beads. But - I have it now. Your videos are so well-planned and informative. Always enjoy them. Steph
Judy-- Thus was an EXCELLENT recap on Chatelaines! I'm brand new to stitching these--just completed my very first small (Mini Mystery Mandala 03) as a proof of concept to myself that I could do it--and was planning to do a similar flosstube as a newbie to demystify what can be a confusing and intimidating journey. But you have done such a fantastic job, that I think I'll just refer people to this video. Great job! 👏
Dear Judy, I watched this episode on the evening of the 19th, unsettled after a day of profound sadness. If you were able to watch some of the day's coverage of the late Queen's State Funeral and Committal service I hope that your Canadian heart swelled with pride to see the procession lead by Canadian Mounties. With regards to your Commemorative piece. Of the charts you discussed, I agree that the dress on the Teresa Gil piece is very nice but the face detracts greatly. A beaded version of the Vivsters chart would be sensational and a fitting tribute. Apparently, there are 10 thousand seed pearls in the original wedding gown. I was impressed by your Egypt Chatelaine. Everything was executed beautifully. I was amused by your discussion about the reverse side of stitching. Jane Greenoff, an English cross stitch designer founded the Cross Stitch Guild. Jane is always enraged by "people who want to look at her backside". With a " How rude", she will slap people's hands away should they dare to turn her work over. Whilst Jane's work is not your genre I think you would find her amusing. Jane is quite a character. Thank you and best wishes, Linda.
Hi Judy, Me again. Just one other thought. I'm with you on the face being a make-or-break decision on a design, but that dress on the Theresa Gil design is so stunning. Is there any way you could leave the features off like a Mirabilia? I know that freaks some people out and it is a little different situation when you're stitching a known, recognizable person. The other outside possibility is finding a design that does get the face right and then use just that part, but that's a long shot since you have to get the size and angle just right. I was able to combine designs like that once with my Grinch stocking, but that was sheer dumb luck that it fit. Although there are so many QEII designs out now between her Jubilee and her passing that you just might be able to find a suitable substitute. --Deb
Thank you, as always, for your insight into different designs-in this case Chatalaines. I only recently heard of them -Rika, House of Stitch and Stash, is doing the Holland one and it is absolutely stunning! I loved your video of the Egypt one-how beautiful! If I ever get the chance to go to Egypt, I may need to stitch that one in remembrance! I was so touched by Queen Elizabeth’s funeral-it was so beautiful and touching. I was planning to stitch a remembrance piece while I watched (much later in the morning-I was not going to get up at 2am to watch (although I did do that for Charles and Diana’s wedding when I was in high school! Their wedding took place while I was at a summer convention, so I was in a college dormitory rather than at home. The dorm rules were that we had to be in our rooms after 11 and weren’t allowed to use the TV. There were several of us (mostly girls, but a few boys) who made a big fuss about seeing history being made, so the university allowed us to get up and watch the wedding. It was so fun!) - so greatful we can now easily record and watch at our convenience!
I am planning to start a Chatelaine as my birthday start in December. I have been buying threads and beads over the whole year and not buying it all at once it has made things a bit more manageable. It was hard to get hold of some of the Gloriana Princess Perle Petit. I really enjoyed your discussion.
oh dear, I just bought the paper charts and now want the PDF !!!, never used evenweave only aida.....not sure if I should laugh or cry....both probably
You said 7 of 9 and I totally thought of Star Trek… lol. I got the Teresa Gil one because I figured if I messed up her face it wouldn’t be like disfiguring the queen 😮. I have 2 small Chatelaines from The Gift of Stitching. I plan on stitching one. Oh!! I have the Gate chart. Maybe I’ll join the SAL. Egypt Garden is BEAUTIFUL. I’m glad your framer was ordered to find the perfect mat.
Your Chatelaine is stunning. I'm really interested in making one but am daunted by the cost and also because I just don't know what I would do with the finished product because I know I won't frame and display it. I'm going to test the waters with Lavender Garden from The Gift of Stitching magazine issue 9. So your information and advice is greatly appreciated!
I think you mentioned the monthly charts this video. I know on your last video you said they were getting kind of tedious. You could leave them & fit them in to Oct, Nov, Dec 2023 & pull something from 2023 to 2022. Gives you a break from them & it also gives you time to think about what you want to do with them once all 12 are done. You did say you were in no rush, just a thought. Love your videos.
QUESTION: Can I ask European Cross Stitch to kit up the supplies for the Marie Antoinette Gate for me? Or does it have to be me being responsible and ordering each thing? Urf. I am so lazy about that sort of thing. And I have no stash. None. I have actually been planning to order a Chatelaine Kit from ECS along with buying the PDFs for both projects from Chatelaine, so maybe I will be able to pull from whichever full kit I order for some things. But, the kit I have been drooling over is in the Beading category, the Art Deco sampler, so maybe not too many varieties of threads in that.
Thanks for this...I am planning to do Holland Springtime this year and I have my DMC threads assembled. I'm not sure I want to do beading...do you have any opinion about just leaving it at stitching? I've never seen a chatelaine in person but I haven't been overwhelmed with the beauty of beads with the projects I've done with them.
Thank you for your response. I always have a big debate going on with myself about how much work I want to put into the back of my pieces. I'm currently working on four large full coverage pieces. One of them I'm not worrying about the back at all and on one of them I'm trying to make the back look almost like the front and other two pieces I'm debating on so it's always a battle with myself wondering how other people not only think about the back but how they carry their threads or how far. Especially if they do cross country or parking and which ones they want to spend more time on with the backs... I know in the Russian culture the ladies roll their pieces up and then when they meet together they look at the backs so I'm not sure how much time to spend. I know here in Texas no one probably cares but I'm just always debating and thinking about it. Wondering what your take was on it Thank you for that.
I have been stitching since the late 70’s-if you are doing a good job of stitching the front carefully and are stitching with reasonable care for thread use, your back will look fairly decent. The back only matters for finishing. If you are showing your back to someone-how they feel about it is their business. How you feel about it is all that matters. It’s your project. Good lick and enjoy!🌻
Thank you for watching! If spending time trying to make the back neater is causing you to enjoy your stitching less - don't. It is much more important to enjoy the stitch than worry about your back!! Happy stitching!

I’m here because of the travelling stocking stitcher!

My heart jumped a beat seeing chartelaines 😊

You know that fabric I may or may not have ordered last time…. well it DID come in the post today.😂
The problem with replacing variegated silks is that it’s hard to get an idea of the real color by browsing pics online
Two hours discussing Chatelain? Let me get my tea and get cozy 😊❤️
Sadly, not a full 2 hours on Chatelaine Designs. Hope you enjoyed the movie length episode! Happy Stitching!

mill hill kits the beads are all individually wrapped. a small beed holder would be better
Loves these charts but will never commit to one as the cost and complicated nature of them is just to much. I do love seeing everyone else's tho
you work with one color at a time
Who did your framing?
