Great review! Just bought this about a week ago at a steep discount. Loving it so far 😄😄 Subscribed!
Yeah dude! I spent another hour with it this morning and I’m just over the moon for it. Pretty rare for me to be this smitten with a guitar at this price point.
Glad you’re enjoying it too
@@EricBourassa I want to see that pink pickup upgrade! 😁
@@macguyvin SOON
OOo òò OOo
I love this review. You take the JS140M to the extreme which is what I want to see in a review. It has some distorted tones that don't fly for me but the tremolo holds up the tuning well with extreme bends and the clean tones are nice and sparkling. I would love a JS2450 Muscle Car Purple but the price is a bit high.
Subscribed to your channel, Eric. Thanks for the quality review.
That is one great looking and sounding guitar man! Enjoyed the review.
Thanks, dude. I was shocked by its beauty inside and out. Reminds me of you 😘

@@EricBourassa Bro Mance?
I just went to go get some strings @ my local GC.. and ended walking out with this same model... I was deeply impressed with even with the stock P/U they have plenty of character and definition.. really no need for any else unless you are one of those always unsatisfied guys.. me? if possible just leave shit alone .. but also TY. for the video.. I didn't even know about the split/coil and I was like what? ill be dipped.. awesome guitar cant put it down also.. its got that nice high output P/U but also very balanced I like them.. its a keeper// 80 metal all the way..
Totally agreed! These pickups do have character and the guitar is really great. Glad you felt the same.
I like chasing tone to an extent… but once I find what I want IM DONE. so most of my other guitars have the tone I want once I got the right pickups. So with the JS I think the tone is great but I want to eliminate that hissing scratch sound and I think it can be done with the Satch pickups. Will post video when I get the new pickups :)
Get those new pickups in pink for sure!
You have now confirmed what I always knew in my heart
Glad you like your JS. I bought a JS24P (Premium, Indonesian) model some years ago and it's marvellous. I've compared it to the Prestige (Japanese) models in guitar stores and there's minimal (if any) difference. Having done a little bit of home fettling to my guitar, I actually preferred how it felt. Don't fear the import (just fear the Reaper..). Silver Dimarzios FTW!
Haha heck yes! I just got the upgraded pickups in the mail. Excited to install them
I really hope you got the white pickups as I think pink would look horrible haha.
see more recent videos for update ;)
Yes, these pickups shouldn't even be in an Ibanez with that kind of price tag. The Quantum pickups are used in the Ibanez Standard line, so in guitars that are priced just under 500 bucks. I agree, they are not that bad but they aren't that good either. I actually like the "scratchy" part of them but I don't like the compressed sound and the lacking note separation.
I'm interested in this model as well because I just love maple fretboards (for the looks). How stable is the neck? I have an Ibanez RG421 and for the first ~2 months the neck was super spongy and moved quite a lot. I had to adjust the truss rod basically every other day. How is the JS140 holding up in that regard?
No issues with the neck so far. Once I got it set where I wanted, I haven’t had to make any adjustments in this first month
@@EricBourassa That's good to hear, thank you!
The rust is a no-go for me. I had a JS100 and the pickups rusted within a year. I think it had the Axis pickups back then. I have several other guitars that do not and did not ever rust. What is it with these JS models and rust? Are they made in a hut in Malaysia or something?
lol maybe! but the grime or rust or whatever it was came off with a good cleaning, so maybe it wasn't rust after all
Enjoyed your review! I have the JS140M as well😊 I think white would be cool too🎸or chrome?
Nice! How much do you love this guitar? Are you saying white or chrome for upgraded pickup colors?
@@EricBourassa I still a little in awe of having a JS model. Perfect combo of blue with maple fretboard. Oh yes the PU colors 😊 i have an S series too. Necks have different feel.
@@Rodney_T VERY different feel!
Hi! Nice review!, do you have any info about the string action?
That’s going to depend on each individual guitar, even if it’s the same model.
If you order from Sweetwater, it should come set up perfectly. If you buy it from Guitar Center, you just don’t know what you will get. I would plan on taking it in for a set up so you can get the string action exactly how you want it
@@EricBourassa thanks for the advice
, i thought that all the models come with the same factory spec. Overall, did you find this model to be superior than the JS100?
@@gonzalomatosaragon2418 they come with the same specs BUT temperature fluctuations during shipping can alter the string action greatly, along with other factors.
And yes, it is Sooooo much better than the JS100 (which I used to own)
Satriani used to have the same prototype guitar with SSS configuration used in radio performances, and it has white pickups.
I've seen one SSS guitar that he has. I'd love to see an HSS model. that's my preferred setup
@@EricBourassa the new js gold has HSS config, we'll see if new guitars will follow. We will see them on Joe's concerts first though
@@NotAnotherSatchFan yeah if they make one that’s NOT $9,000 or covered in fingerprints I might consider it 😆
I have been looking at this guitar and don't know if I should pull the trigger on it. No stores nearby have it so I can't try it out, but I want to get into guitars with floyd rose style bridges and locking nuts, and I feel like this would be a good entry model. What do you think?
I almost bought it online without playing it, but just couldn’t pull the trigger myself. Went in to play it as I talked about in video- LOVED IT. still love it. Highly recommended
@@EricBourassa I think I really do want this guitar but I’m struggling to find a place to get it in Canada
@@russellyerxa3252 can you order it from America? Seems every industry is struggling with having enough product currently. You may have to wait if you can’t ship it from US
I really like Joe and am starting to learn guitar and I'm borrowing a gretch would this be a good guitar to pick up
Gretch is great BUT not for Satriani. If you want to play Satriani, I recommend an Ibanez or Charvel, some kind of super Strat with double locking tuners. Of course, if you’re just starting to learn guitar, most any guitar is fine because you have to learn the basics on any kind of guitar
This or the PRS SE custom? Needing an all round guitar that also plays likes of satriani and 80s rock stuff. Thanks
can't go wrong with PRS SE. best bang for the buck. what'd you end up getting?
does the whammy bar on this one have a tight fit? Or does it get lose shortly after screwing the cap on tight?
I don't mean the whammy bar's rotation, but rather that it wobbles around loosely in the socket
It stays tight pretty well, but it’s not a design I prefer. I’d rather have a bar that pops in and out
great review!!!!
Totally green w/ Envy... a Mesa TC Head, and a JS guitar...
I love ibanez guitars but this one is very rare, althought very resonant the pick ups dont make justice (really, too raspy) and the string action looks a bit high.
Getting the upgraded pickups installed now (video coming soon!). The action is not high at all. It's perfect
B/t his recording path, RUclips, Compression, going to China and back, then my JBL's. I felt the same thing, but didn't want to put too much weight into what I heard in this medium. For me a Guitar is all about playability, can always swap pick-ups...
Great guitar but the pickups don’t sound nearly hot enough to me. You should put a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge.
I like the output of these pickups, but they are low quality- tone is scratchy. I’m going to put in the Satriani signature pickups first. If I don’t like those, I’ll remember your advice to try a time zone. Thanks!
Nice guitar! I once tried a japanese model of those and was blown away by it's resonance alone without an amp. If you had to chose would you buy this one or a used japanese model?
depends on how it sounds with upgraded pickups (coming in two weeks). If it ends up sounding comparable to the $2600 version then it's a no-brainer to get import model for $800 and spend $200 on pickups. Maybe eventually upgrade the bridge (locking tuners are a bit stiff)
I'm thinking about getting one, but what I most play is classic Heavy Metal and some trash metal, and also blues hahaha, do you think it's a good choice?
Oh man sorry I missed this! It's funny you ask because I recently played a local elementary school and forgot my Strat so I grabbed my Satriani JS140M from the music school. Had to play pop, rock, metal, country, funk, blues, and jazz all with that guitar and I quickly realized how dang versatile it is. I never would have guessed, but my Satriani guitar may be my most adaptable of any guitar I own! It surprised me
how well does it stay in tune?
I was wanking on it for 45 min today playing Satch tunes with lots of whammy bar action. Never had to tune it. I’m shocked at how well it stays in tune
@@EricBourassa thanks bud, i might get the regular js140 for it’s white color, glad to know it stays in tune well. Thanks again
@@mfandrew3261 Ibanez low tier double locking trem system Edge Pro II is really good and dependable
@@EricBourassa thanks
PINK! Now it's coming Sept, do you still in honeymoon period with the guitar?
Yes! Still very much enjoying this guitar. Ordering the pink Satch pickups in coming weeks :)
It's the exact same shape as my Ibanez Ergodyne
Not white or pink......but cream colored DiMarzios......and or white. I'd go with cream or white and get them with the name low profile or high profile from DiMarzio on them. I'm getting a Stevie Vai made now green and cream with low profile stamp and nickel poles. Talk to the tech and maybe they will do pink and white for you. I was torn on color so I went green and also cream. Good luck bro.
that steve vai with green and cream sounds cool. I ordered pink! they should be coming in a week or so. I'll be uploading that video as soon as I get them installed
I bet chrome pickups would look amazing
Yes I think so too, but I’m going pink this time!
I got one. Its ace. Few vids on my channel for anyone wants to see. I’m no special reviewer or anything. Just a share of this excellent guitar.
What's that red house kick box
Not sure I understand the question
Get those new pickups yet?
Not yet! Got a few pickups to swap in another guitar first. Probably get to this one later November early December
Looks very nice, but when I tested it, the string feels so stiff.
where'd you test the JS at? frequently it depends on how it came from the factory and setup on import models is all over the place. more than likely, the one you played just needed a good setup
Oh man what colour pups you get?! Lol
Pink. See more recent videos for visual and tone demo
Abused the crap out of that thing and stayed in tune!!!
Heck yes baby!
They sound like $20 pickups
the upgrades do sound much better
That guitar just doesn't sound good. Maybe it's the maple neck or the pickups. It sounds ice pickey. Maybe some high frets or frets that need crowning.
Check out the updated video with signature pickups. Big difference
pink
AGREED
Pickups sound muddy as hell and scream made overseas
Well there you go. I wouldn’t go that far, I think they are decent. But I agree that they could definitely better. I look forward to upgrading them
Tremolo bars have a break in period
Really? It’s not something I’ve ever considered
@@EricBourassa Hey, wasn’t necessarily foe you bro, just the readers in the comments as many do not actually know that. Great vid/review btw as I was looking a class above this one but was rattling with doing what you did similarly. And like you I have many guitars and “thought” I was good until
I saw this one. 😆 and now I have become addicted to about 4 new guitars so expansion of the family is unavoidable.
thats the thinnest clean tones ive ever heard from a guitar....pass
damn after watching some more of the video, i dont like any of the sounds. i had a JS1000 years ago that was incredible, this one sounds horrible to me
check out my more recent vids with upgraded pickups. I got Dimarzio Satriani Signature Mo' Joe and Satch Track pickups installed and they're worlds better
The pickups are crap .
that's why I upgraded them ;)
Hey@@EricBourassa, what did you upgrade them to? Can you please provide a link if possible?
