I think it’s safe to say we won’t get a Gossip Girl reunion anytime soon
In the new issue of PorterEdit, Leighton Meester opens up about her experience working on the hit CW show, Gossip Girl, and admits that it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine. In fact, some days, there wasn’t any sunshine at all. When talking about her filming schedule, Leighton revealed QUOTE "I would get there at 5 a.m. and leave at 8 p.m., A lot of days I didn't see the sun."
Leighton also spoke about the effect being an overnight sensation had on her, admitting QUOTE "I was young when I started Gossip Girl. A lot more people were suddenly around and I was being looked at. If you don't have the right perspective, you could definitely be confused by people being that nice to you or judging you for behavior that's typical of a 20-, 21-year-old, making mistakes but having to make them very publicly, I'm not haunted by that time, but it's been interesting and helpful for me to look at it and examine it as an adult and go, 'I don't know if it was the healthiest environment.’”
She then went onto talk about how Gossip Girl sped up her journey of figuring out who she was, adding QUOTE " I had to figure it out quickly and with not a completely developed mind to discern between what's real and what's not, who I can trust and who I can't,"
As for if she misses the show, Leighton revealed QUOTE "I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's sort of a time capsule. A lot of the questions that come from it are: 'Do you miss it?' 'Did you love what you wore?' And I understand that, but-and I say this with nothing but love-it is like saying, 'High school was an amazing time for you. Do you wish you could go back?' And the truth is, it was so special and such a unique, amazing experience, but no, I wouldn't wanna go back to it. I was a kid!"
We can understand where she’s coming from, but as a die hard Gossip Girl fan myself, this makes me a little bummed. But right now it’s time for me to turn it over to you guys. Leighton had a very rough upbringing and during her time of the show she also struggled a lot with her family issues so i can't blame her for not wanting to go back and her perspective is mature and clear, she had a special time above all and it's grateful for it but that's about it , i doubt she would want to go to darker times when she was younger and naive.

(The fosters..stranger things..greys anatomy) well they all got along good at least! Apparently Leighton and Blake had some drama going on during the last 2 seasons and from there everything changed. Everyone separated after the show ended. I dont even think they have each other on ig??

I'm honestly not surprised. Whenever Gossip Girl is brought up in interviews she seems uncomfortable/seems like she doesn't want to talk about it. Most of the cast aren't friends which is probably one of the reasons why she doesn't miss it. I Love Gossip Girl but I wish people would let it go and stop asking her about it. It ended 6 years ago and it obvious she doesn't want to talk about it.

@@Adele5554Wanting to move on and being mad about people bringing it up are two different things. I don't think she's annoyed with the interviewer but I can understand that 8 years after the show's end, she would like to be seen as a serious actress and musician and not as the rich bitch character in a tv show for teenagers, and that's why she's so uncomfortable talking about it. I was on one of her concerts once and a lot of people were screaming "Blair! Blair" instead of her actual name. Things like that must be super annoying. She is, in fact, one of the few cast members who doesn't trashtalk the show at all. In the interview, she just talks about herself and her personal struggles, she doesn't say one bad word about GG itself.
Leighton Meester tbh deserves so much respect from television. I feel like she is shadowed a lot when really she’s a kick-ass actress that’s gone through a lot.

There's actually an interview with Armie Hammer, who was on the show for some episodes, who said that the vibes on the set were not the greatest, in the least. But he didn't really want to elaborate on it.

You can tell. The chemistry (or lack of) off screen shows on screen. Like in Gossip girl, I had a feeling that they didn’t really like each other irl and something just felt off. But like in B99, they have such great chemistry and they’re all good friends (Andy and Chelsea are actually childhood friends in the show and irl) and good chemistry just makes the show better

I agree. That's why the first two seasons were so much better. They were all excited at first and riding the high of their success but as the seasons went on it's obvious they started clashing and the huge popularity of the show started to weigh down on them. I think it's telling that Dan and Serena had crazy chemistry during the first couple of seasons when they were dating irl too but when they reunited them at the end of the show long after they had broken up you could tell they absolutely hated playing a couple, it felt so forced.
I said the same thing in my response that I just posted by season three you could tell the chemistry was off and they didn't like each other very much you can almost tell when I cast doesn't like each other and it does come across on screen.
Sometimes no chemistry but good hella of an actors/actress
In GG they had zero chemistry with eachother as *friends* but made the show soo good to the point where it got so much fame

Maybe because they had a bad time with their fellow castmates. And maybe because when they are on a successful tv show, they seem to have been over worked.

Because success always comes with a price. And I can understand how someone with Leighton's background could have struggled with that new-found fame.
Most drama series doesn't have a reunion and a show like gossip girl was always about hate and blackmail but actor's and actresses shouldn't use a role to cover up how sad their life is for God's sake TAKE A BREAK gosh LIVING DRAMA and also ACTING IT will make you regret the job then at times the show seemed to show favoritism in some characters.
I think because, in a show like this, everyone sees her like Blair Waldorf. And everybody still does, eventhough she is in other projects. At some point you want to be taken seriously because of your acting skills, not because of one role you played. It’s just like the cast of Twilight

Blake's recent movies have been critical hits so critics love her a lot her acting has improved greatly shes a star. Out of the original cast of gg she is the one with the best movie career.

They made alot of excuses for Chuck's sexual assaulting ways & gav him alot of undeserved passes ; They made Louis the bad guy for being fed up w Blair treating him poorly ; Tried to hav us feel bad for Ivy being treated as a liar & con artist, after it was shown she was a liar & con artist ; & tricked us in believing that Serena marrying her childhood stalker & that Blair marrying her toxic ex was a "happy ending" ;
Lol & there's alot more ... it's just tv & i love a good over the top dramatic show, but after the second half of season 5, the show will slowly make u realize the storylines makes no sense .

She did great. Keeping herself above the scandals and drama that plagued other celebrities. The show was already about scandals and drama ironically. Leighton really handled herself well. Nobody's perfect, she might not have trouble in the celebrity world, but she does have issues with her terrible parents. It's not her fault, fortunately she kept strong and even rescued her brother from her parents.
It's weird cause I started watching gossip girl the other day without know it had been exactly 11 years since it started
A lot of stars say the same thing about something they worked on in the past. Especially if they’re young and the project was more than 10 years ago. Rachel Bilson has said something similar about The OC, which I watched religiously, and I never really watched Gossip Girl. Sometimes people just want to put the past behind them wether or not it was a negative experience. But every young ingenue is going to say the same thing about being catapulted into fame very young and very fast. Overnight sensations like The OC, Gossip Girl, even One Tree Hill and Buffy, are going to change actors’ lives, either for the better, or sometimes, for the worse. And a lot of times people want to protect the memory and integrity of the original show.
This video made it seem like she was saying that the cast and working environment per se was “unhealthy.” She was clearly talking about how sudden fame really took a toll on her, especially as she was so young back then, which is totally valid. She speaks with the utmost respect of the experience, but like she said, it’s a chapter that she has moved on from. I can guarantee that 99% of us look back at when we were younger and just cringe about it. Of course she would as well.
I started binge watching GG earlier and couldn’t help but notice how cute Blair is. I’m sad she didn’t have more screen time in the earlier seasons. At every other scene I was like “omg can Blair show up now”.
i know it mustn’t been a perfect experience - had to be sooo exhausting, but if i were a given a huge chance like that, i would be so grateful
I think her and Blake have the right idea. They’re mothers now, both of them have daughters. The show was fun but I think that aside from the instant fame they probably don’t want to play those characters anymore because they’re not the best examples for their kids. Again, it’s fun to watch but I struggle watching it as an adult because the themes and behaviors were a bit much.

I am a little sad season 6 only has 6 episodes but overall I love the show, they all were high school teenagers back then I'm sure none of the cast would want to re live their high school days. Thank you. Blair totally had more chemistry with Dan than she did with Chuck. He only saw her as a trophy wife and encouraged her mischievous behavior. Whereas Dan loved and respected her intelligence and they had the same love for books and plays.
And don't get me started on that forced Dan-and-Serena-getting-back-together part. Dan seemed so over Serena by six.

It kills me that people act like these people are supposed to having nothing but 100% positive things to say about their jobs. I LOVE my job, but there are obviously bad days and days I wish I could just call in. THIS. IS. A. JOB. People pretend like this is all real life. They expect the entire cast to be the best of friends. I'm most certainly not best friends with anyone I work with. We have a great working relationship, but I'm not trying to be with them outside of work. Why do people expect casts of shows to HAVE to be BFFs just because they play BFFs on a show. IT'S FAKE! My first job I ever had was great! I made really good money, esp for being young, but I would def not go back!!
I don’t think that there’s necessarily any tension between any of them I just think they were young and still had a lot to learn when they were casted. Most of them were just different people.
