Really felt at home running it today I think my tic tok fan was impressed when I sent it he was videotaping 😂 from the road hopefully his tape doesn’t run out 😳😳😜😜
They seem to dig in really nice . Nice traction in the dirt, that's what I like about the sledgehammer for the maxx. Pulling of some nice jumps/flips! Nice video 👍
I’m trying to avoid letting the color coordinated rims sway my opinion, because they clearly *look* better. I definitely like the performance you experienced from the Sledgehammers. I’d say stick with the Sledges, unless long term testing proves them to be counterproductive from a durability or tread life standpoint … or if constantly reglueing.
I can’t wait to get my xmaxx been saving up , I got the maxx with the wide kit and a bunch done and a hoss completely built and 6s now I want a xmaxx with the sledgehammers and a widekit cause the just looks sexy , been trying to trade off my hoss and cash for one no luck so I’m keep on saving and buy a new one
Hey Earl! Looking good. What gearing & servo are u running? Currently I’m running Tekno 18 & GDS 50. I HATED the stock gears had all sorts of gear mesh issues. And recently I upgraded the xmaxx servo with metals gears and put it in my Maxx and now the Xmaxx has the Protek 370 servo in it with the adapter. Haven’t put it through it’s paces yet but it seems to be fine so far. I’m using the Promodeler servo horn. Fits perfect
I think anything is better than stock, but I don’t give my money to Traxxas unless it’s an absolute necessary part that somebody in the aftermarket doesn’t make
They perform great but be warned if you like to send it off big jumps. As I commented above, my rear wheels bent badly after just one outing and Traxxas doesn't want anything to do with making it right. Just FYI.
Question for the masses: Do you think a tires that constantly balloons vs a belted tire... Which type of tire is most likely to need glue maintenance?? I would assume a ballooning tire is "pulling" on the glue bead hard when it's at speed? Guess just wondering if there would be more maintenance with one type of tire vs the other?? Great video Earl as always. Thank you 👍
My belted tires also pull apart and need to be glued even on my speed builds it’s a common issue on any tire I feel belted tire weight causes the glue to fail easier 🤔
Earl great bash sir👍🏾 Do you prefer the stock xMaxx or the bigger motor xMaxx? Which do you have more fun with? Might be a silly question but it seems like less breaks with the stock xMaxx. Mine is not stock but it seems stock is plenty enough power.. Thinking about going back to stock tbh🤔
I really like the xmaxx Earl It sure performs with those tires. I think an indestructable body wouldnt be a bad purchase either. Do you think that traxxas would ever make an xmaxx v2 like the maxx and have the sludge hammers and widebody kit already installed, I think that would be an awesome option. Here in canada the maxx isnt much different in price from the v2 for the upgrades you get. Thanks for the awesome videos and helpful tips along the way. Also would love to see traxxas come out with there own version of an scx6.

Nice video👍 Anyone know if TRX has made any changes in the thickness of the wheel vs stock 8s wheels? I have had nothing but problems with the stock wheels cracking..I honestly can't believe how thin the stock xmaxx wheels are. I've had 2 broken wheels on my X the last 2 outings. It's cold outside, so I know things get brittle but damn. To put things into perspective, I have been bashing a kaiju, kraton exb(6s) and a corally xtr all stock with no broken wheels.. I do like the xmaxx stock tires, but the wheels are just rubbish! I don't need or want belted tires, just something that can actually hold up to stock speeds without breaking.
They need to make DOT rated belted tires...like a mini Michelin or Goodyear tire....and have a 500 mile warranty... 😂...hey I think ahead, not for the moment 😊
Nice. I run 25/35 gearing with the 1100kv motor and Max 5 on my X-Maxx so I need belted tires to take that abuse. The Duratrax lockups X 24mm belted tires have worked well for me. I destroy the stock Xmaxx tires with my set up. Hopefully these tires are better than the stock Xmaxx ones for the regular powered Xmaxx. Thanks for the video 👍. Did I hear a Karen in the background??
Earl, do you think traxxas should have done a new release with an extended chassis for the xmaxx like they did the maxx??? Personally i think they should have
I don’t feel the xmaxx should be longer as the center drive shaft already bends but I feel they will be doing a wide xmaxx rtr soon and hopefully 🙏 a redesign on the body for it not just a paint change and maybe add a better inner hub bearing to solve that issue for us 💯💯😎😎
@@earlmoorhead5555 i did think maybe not extend for that reason. Plus the longer wheelbase would leave more area for something to collide or flex causing more chassos breakages. The wide kit i definitely see being rtr soon, was it you or someone else who said the wide arms are bending though causing awkard camber angle after a few bashes. But agreed a new body design would make sense, instead of the same bland design since the 6s xmaxx. Have you tried the proline gladiator body for the xmaxx?
My truck is literally identical to yours, orange HD arms, Sledgehammers and all. After my very first outing with the truck on these wheels and tires, both of my rear wheels are bent badly and now super out of balance. It was really disappointing after only one run. I was jumping it very similar to you, nothing crazy. Very disappointed!
I do wonder about that..mine has been clicking like that since I bought it, mine def doesn't have a bent shaft. I checked🤣 I can't understand for the money the X costs why TRX can't include the HD arms or metal geared servo? I mean, they don't even sell the stock arms, do they? I enjoy the truck for sure, but the greed of TRX is just repulsive.
Do you think the sledgehammers and the widekit is a good kombo ? Got my x maxx with hobbywing max 5 1100 kv kombo and it killed the Stock tyres tooo easy 😞.and i dont wanna add much weight with heavier tyres ..
Air control was looking GREAT

What a beautiful day and place! Stuck here in Ct with freezing cold weather and snow, haha. I enjoyed watching the video!
It's always nice to have options! They seem to handle very well. 💯👍
traxxas really needs to start thinking about selling belted tires
I like the happy music and photo montage at the end.
Thanks 🙏

They seem to dig in really nice . Nice traction in the dirt, that's what I like about the sledgehammer for the maxx. Pulling of some nice jumps/flips! Nice video 👍
Definitely got more traction at the jump launch ramp had a blast funny how we forget how fun a good working xmaxx feels like and the joy 💯💯😎😎

Yes hard to tell with the color 👍👍
I run regular grease in the rear diff so more power goes to the rear wheels!
First question Earl asked himself . . . Why is it breaking? Survey SAYS!!! cause it's an XMAXX 😳😂🤣😂🤣
Nope no breakages for me today 😜😜💪💪

Nice setup with those tires Earl. You can feel them better on the triger, but I can see that they grip a lot. Nevertheless, they sure look awesome. 💪💯
Well they look and perform great I think earl 👌 the rim colour options also a nice touch, but having a choice is always a good option.

Great video Earl. As always
Sledgehammers definitely look good. Super aggressive tread for sure. Shame Traxxas don’t make a belted version.
Great video tires held up great👊👊💯💯
Was hoping for not as much ballooning … I keep my gearing on 22/50 …a tire that size and belted would be nice 👍👍👍

I’m running 18 pinion stock traxxas and 46 spur DGM gear with a traxxas X servo with the voltage cranked up to 6.0 in the max6 esc 👍👍

Yes put the power down evenly stop the front to balloon so much in the air
