    17 October 2014 was the day Francis lost me. His speech in the synod was “Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity! “ The French Revolution in your face and shouted by the pope. Before that, I had been spinning his remarks, trying to make them Catholic.

      "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity" is the slogan of Freemasonry, which has been universally condemned by the magisterium since it's very conception. So I agree that it can by no means be justified for a Catholic to espouse, God forbid the Pope :'/

    From someone who admires Pope Francis' approach to the Gospel, but also denounces what I see as a weakened clergy and tradition under his pontificate, here's my two cents:
    Pope Francis is an imperfect but talented leader we need today. Many may misunderstand and hate on Pope Francis, particularly in the West, and I understand. But in the uproars of social media, we forget that every pope is different, and every pope is heavily flawed. Each has their own spiritual talents that emphasize aspects of the Gospel. Francis emphasizes the Christ's love for the poor, the mercy of God, the unity of creation, and the power of the laity. That doesn't mean he denies upheld teachings of the Church. Read social media with a critical, well-rounded lens.
    Of course, the Pope Francis isn't the disciplined administrator or brilliant theologian we see in other Popes. And I condemn the Pachamama incident, even if I believe no idolatry was promoted. Yes, we know sexual abuse, need for liturgical reform, and corruption in the clergy are still rampant and the big negatives in his time. But again, the Church, while not perfect, is working on it. And I'm surprised people forget about all the bonkers stuff that happened under Benedict XVI and John Paul II.
    Critics also forget that Francis is a defender of Catholic sexual and moral teaching, and is against both consumerism and Marxist liberation theology. And his interreligious dialogue is the same thing St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI have been doing! I hope we can have a balanced view of what's going on, and let's cut out the name calling please. Cheers, let's pray for him and each other, God bless!

That being said, if one of the shepherds are leading the flock astray, they must be held to account by the flock. The flock must be catechized well enough to know when they are being lead astray.

    The resignation of Francis would not just be a good faith effort for the sake of the abused, but also for the church, as a sign that it has been poorly led. It would show that the laity (and Christ for that matter!) deserve to have a Church that is not completely opaque in its transparency and corrupt in its dealings. I look at it this way: if the church was a multinational corporation who had an industrial disaster, or produced a product that injured people, the public would call for the resignation of its CEO. Same with a politician. Why should the church be any different?

  • @amyexner

    Our Holy Father Pope Benedict did all in his might and believe, to do the best for the church; Benedict was a preacher most and foremost and acted according to what he thought was the Christian thing to do. It’s up to god to judge and condemn.

    I too have concerns about the direction of the Vatican and Holy Father, but I think such discussions about the Pope resigning, etc. are out of bounds. No Holy Father is perfect, and we need to pray for whoever occupies the Chair of Peter, without constantly throwing stones, either from the right or from the left. In short, we need a smattering of faith.

    3 Things must happen to stop the abuses and corruption in Holy Mother Church
    1. We all must Pray, Fast and do Daily Penance
    2. Do away with the Novus Ordo mass and bring back the Extraordinary Form - Tridentine Mass.
    3. No more homosexuals and sexual predators in the seminary and no more homosexuals/sexual predators and there supporters in the hierarchy of the church. They all must go.

    This was very helpful, and no - it did not leave us angry in any way. You covered just about everything that has been going through our minds but haven't had much of a chance to discuss with anyone. One of the best questions was when did Patrick give up his "popesplaining" - I feel I have been doing the same way with my aunt. She recently asked if I was still standing by him like I had been through so much before - I definitely think differently now.

    • @aperta7525
      @aperta7525 6 лет назад

      My problem and why I reserved judgment about Pope Francis' statement "who am I to judge" is that **I** didn't know whether he was speaking about someone who was actively homosexual or truly chaste in practice, and contrary to the huge modern expectation due to instant social medias and the world wide WEB, I am just not interested in busying myself about the media details and reports of others' lives.... I was busy trying to live the life given to me, because sometimes *pursuing knowledge of evil* beyond the scope of my own personal control becomes way too much to handle (which some would consider egregiously selfish of me, to choose to live without total and complete knowledge of everything wrong in the world).

      While your work is very commendable I would think that the 'preoccupation' with Pope's 'resignation' is overdone. The Church is there for us so that we are helped to become holy. All our thoughts words and deeds at all moments should be aimed towards that goal. Do you intend your 'love for the church and all that you do for the Church' with the Show to make you holier and holier? It should. Only God can attest a person's holiness but any one knows what he/she is doing for attaining it. Does this show make you holy?

    Vigano has played a key part in most of the Vatican scandals of our time. This is not the first time he had leaked unflattering memos/letters around the world. He always wanted to be Cardinal. His own brother says he’s a liar. To me, Vigano has no concern for abuse victims.

    The worst thing we can do is think of this scandal as a battle between "conservative" and "liberal" Catholics. You either follow the Church's teachings or you don't. And if you follow the Church out of love of Christ, that's all that matters. I've tried to give Francis the benefit of the doubt. When it came to his refusal to address the dubia and his sometimes strange comments about people in mortal sin or non-Catholics receiving Communion, I figured, "Hey, maybe he's just a bad communicator." Or maybe he's wrong - even saints can be wrong about things. But I didn't want to jump on this bandwagon of Francis-hating because I take rifts within the Church very seriously. But, his refusal to address this letter is mind-boggling. The letter "speaks for itself"? Because it's pretty damning. I don't know what to think anymore. I just hope people don't take this chance to make a war within the laity.

      @Andrew Jacob I don't see everything he says as vague and ambiguous. Certainly the way the mainstream media reports on him would amplify that sense about his words.
      I think in part it has to do with the way the world culture has become, and the way we have become in it. Certainly we thirst for direction, Truth, we thirst for Jesus. But the global culture, it's become very absurdly/extremely individualistic despite the popular Neo Marxist motion (same thing really, all a collective of "many kingdoms of ones"), which can have a major impact on the way we read or hear things and try to interpret and apply those things to ourselves and our (or other's) circumstances. The voice/s of the world are as a contagion, yet we must also be careful to discern the voice of our self-will and the temptations of the Evil one, because sometimes they can overlap. And if we are not in tip-top bodily and mental health, that also will impact how we read and interpret and apply things (I for one struggle with ADD, depression, and anxiety - forgetting to eat a meal can happen, which adds to the mess - and had also been struggling against demonic oppression and demonic obsession for years, which negatively impacted sleep, which messed with the brain chemicals, which etc etc etc).
      It's very important to know oneself, one's most intimate dignity in Christ, and to take care of oneself practically first like that. Like an emergency in an airplane - put your own oxygen mask on before you try to help anyone next to you.
      Honestly, it is Faith that God probes the mind and tests the heart - I cannot assume or presume to know or scrutinize his interior life (thoughts, intentions, desires, feelings, inspirations, motivations, purposes, etc). That is strictly his own and God's territory. He can share parts of that publicly or privately, but we can never claim to know him like that. We can wonder, and question, but we can also obsess.
      I would ask, "What exactly, word for word, do you want to hear from the Pope?"
      I wouldn't call it benefit of the doubt, if you're referring to Archbishop Vigano's missive. I would call it Wisdom to not speculate in waiting for the official investigation to commence and first produce the facts, however much others demand immediate action. There are pressure groups both in and outside the Church that are making pedestals for victim-"prophets" and are making and exploiting other victims of these scandals. They/we forget that Pride is most obscured when present in Wrath, especially relative to an injustice suffered. We too often forget Christ in the heat of our anger. We need to remain sober in mind and spirit.

    I have to agree with another commenter, in that, good decent people are acting like abused children who know that their leaders (fathers) have been abusing their siblings. They look the other way, they defend them, or they just hope the problem will go away. They are waiting for God to handle it, because they don’t want to handle the responsibility. And they go under the ruse that that it’s just important for us to just love, love, love. Shut your eyes, God will take care of it. That is a half truth, and basically it’s just being lazy and not taking care of God’s family. It was unprecedented for Pope Benedict to resign, if the currently pope decides to resign, it may be unprecedented but, if there is even a little truth in these allegations, it won’t be “horrible”, it’ll be a step in cleaning up a horrific mess that the church has been in for a generation or so.

    I was reading the Gospel earlier this morning, today of all days before listening to this interview and skimming through the comments section.
    I encourage everyone, including the interviewer and interviewee, to review the Gospel account of Mark. I believe it was chapter 9 or 10.
    We need to humble ourselves before God, not divide from one another, and pray and fast for the Pope and others to be made fully able and fully free to speak? Sometimes our clamoring of "fight the good fight" amounts to nothing against a mute unclean spirit. Pride is also most easily concealed in Wrath, especially in this time when acting/reacting or speaking reactively in Anger, though the experience of anger itself not a sin, is confused for working toward Social Justice. It's so easy to become distracted from Christ and keeping our eyes on Him.

I spend far too much time asking why so many follow a religion despite absolutely no proof of a God . The main reason i convince myself that there is no God is that if there were then he has to be either malevolent or ambivalent, two characteristics no God of substance could possess.

    An interesting coincidence......yesterday I watched an interview Patrick did with Tim Staples 7 months ago, and hearing what Patrick reveals here with Fradd regarding his struggle with Francis, which goes back years, left me wondering about his sincerity. because he claims that he too has had his own struggles with Pf, that have gone on for years, but not a word about any of this in his video from months ago. From 25-31 their talk is completely devoted to Francis and the issue of heresy, and Tim reveals his indifference to the anguish that so many "trads" have with the ......I can only call the treachery of this pope. Tim refers to the "fervour of the right...feeding frensy"(misspelled- blame my computer), and he has no idea of what faithful Catholics like myself(I'm not a Trad nor Sede...)go through with PF......and as I said in my comment...if Francis is only guilty of grave scandal, which he is, over and over, leading Catholics of strong faith or borderline faith, to despair over the efficacy of the Catholic faith, that will damn his immortal soul forever. I also said there is no question that he is a heretic, even though only God knows the secret motivations of his heart, an d yes, he should resign. But I don't think he will because his soul is enslaved to demonic pride... And I also said the only explanation for why CA doesn't see that can only be explained by the awful truth of original sin, by which I mean, in this instance, that people who deny that Francis has created a crisis in the church , do not understand their own hidden motivations having to do with a range of human weaknesses including cowardice, hypocrisy, et al...
    I could write a book on my own struggle with this pope. For the first two years, I made endless excuses for him until one day I accepted that I could do that no longer, and I can no longer deny what my reason tells me is true. that this man does not love Christ and His church. Not really. I leave it to the Teaching Church to pass final judgement on him and the extent of his moral culpability..
    Since I discovered CA about 4 years ago, I've had the highest regard for the Catholic apologetics carried on by the splendid team of all converts, I assume. But this blind eye regarding this corrupt pope, is more than I can stomach.

    God is not sleeping. He is creating all that, just as everything else. And it is the best thing for Catholic Church to happen and for all Catholics.
    Thanks to Popes like Pope Francis, and few before him Catholics don't even know their faith. Stoped praying to Mother of God as first response. Cut ourselves from receiving any graces from God, as all of them come true Mother of God. How we supposed to live and be saved?
    Unintended consequences? "Destroy not my soul with the wicked, O God nor my life with the man of blood. In whose hands are iniquities, their right hand is filled with the gifts."
    If you pray this on every Mass you are not so easly mislead by "false good" arguments. But instead we pray offeratory from Talmud in NO. Another coincidence well minded pastors?
    Instrument of our sin is instrument of our punishment. Pope F. should choose better friends.
    Ps. What happened to teachings that we has to avoid sin and sinners? Now we "dialog and accompany " them?
    How does it work for Pope?

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 6 лет назад +1

      That I don't know. The Anglican church is not a model I think the Catholic church should follow. Is there a huge groundswell of married men who would want to occupy the priesthood who aren't already in the diaconate? I'm not convinced. A newspaper article some years ago by a former seminarian claimed many of his fellows were homosexual, some of them actively. If that's the case we are members of a "gay" church. Married priests may be the only alternative.

    • @pollywanda
      @pollywanda 6 лет назад

      @@borderlands6606 Why should it matter if a Catholic priest is gay or straight as long as they follow Christ. Should celibacy be optional?

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 6 лет назад +1

      I think it would matter if the church was disproportionately gay compared to the general population, which it almost certainly is. It would suggest the Catholic clergy was a homosexual "career route". That might infer same sex attraction was divinely ordained as a means widening the priesthood, and a lot of people would have a problem with that idea. A non-celibate homosexual clergy would imply repeated sin was consistent with religious life, which it is not.
      In the real world systemic homosexuality is one of the means by which corruption insinuates itself. Older gay men in positions of authority conferring favours on younger impressionable ones, and ultimately leading to a sexualised cabal at the head of the church. I'm not someone who throws up his hands in horror at the idea some priests are instinctive homosexuals, but a normalisation of the idea within the church has certainly contributed to the corruption we now see.
      While ever the church sees homosexuality as disordered, but knowingly accepts homosexuals to the priesthood, it is putting temptation in people's way.

    This "I shouldn't criticize the Holy Father" mentality is patently absurd. This is a so-called Thomistic podcast and the host does not see the simple philosophical distinction between judging the interior life of a human person and judging the human person's actions? Does he really think Bergolio's papacy has been morally neutral and above reproach? I just don't get this whole neo-con pope worship. It's fundamentalism Catholic style and far from authentic Catholicism!

It reminds me of a saying attributed to a Cardinal Ercole the Vatican Secretary of State in the 1800's. Napoleon was threatening the church while talking to the cardinal. The story is told that when Napoleon claimed the power to destroy the Catholic Church, Ercole had answered, “That is highly unlikely. In eighteen hundred years its clergy hasn’t succeeded in destroying it.” This stuff has been going on for centuries and it too will pass.

    I want to address this comment to all Catholics: It is none of our call to determine if Pope Francis should resign or not. I don't say that we don't have an opinion. But, God is the only one who can put the pope into his calling and it is only God who can take him out!!! So, I would suggest to all of you that you pray, hope and don't worry. Ask God to intervene in all of this. If we are to keep our eyes on God, then we had best be careful about making a mistake in trying to BE GOD. We, none of us, are God. I was worried about what I was hearing from Pope Francis in the very beginning. I had to realize what I have just said in this comment. If we decide to determine if Pope Francis should leave or stay, then we have taken our eyes off God. I will not allow Satan to win. It is up to each of us to decide if we will give Satan power or to keep with God. We have, throughout history, had very, very bad popes. Read up on what happened with them. Most of the problem is that many of us don't pray and we neglect saying the rosary. We can overcome all of this if we do as we have been told over and over again. Pray, fast and remember that God is never too busy. He is forever in control. Father Harding said nothing that happens is an accident. Peace be with all of you. Again, Pray, Hope and Don't worry.

    Very good podcast! I needed this after reading Mark Shea's article in Patheos this morning. Sickening and so lame. Shoot the messenger if you don't like the message. I agree, we need to thank God this deceit and shameful behavior is finally coming out. Catholics have been like abused children the last few years. It doesn't matter what their father does, they defend him. That has to stop and the truth needs to come out for the good of us all. Only then can the healing and rebuilding begin.

It seems the Pharisees and Saducees were more interested in serving their their own interests of power and wealth than in serving the needs of the people.

    Jesus told you to love one another, not to judge others and most relevantly: not to focus on the earth and earthly worries - of a sparrow falls from the sky God sees it, why would you concern yourself with deciding whether a leader has the right to be there or not? Your focus is not on God but on judgement of other human beings and on your own arrogant opinions of what people should and should not do. Focus on yourselves for goodness’ sake.
