Not technically illegal. The problem is the UL has been revoked by NEC. That underwriters listing/label is what guarantees the product is safe. Since NEC revoked nationwide nobody sells the underground/lateral units required to set up any electrical pole or for any house. You can get them off of various places like eBay but you’re taking a risk.
Thats a trip about the underground UL issue. You cant do say pvc coaxed to run the line wire in? that should fix the open line problem I would think.
