Nice pen stand Bob, I hope you do well at the craft show. I hope you're going to post some pics. Thank you for the shout out, it's really good of you to help support my channel. I truly appreciate it my friend. Good luck and best regards, Bob.
Thank you Bob, You are welcome for the shout out, I wanted to do a more proper one since the last one was a quickie. I am hoping to do a short how to video for craft shows if all goes well. Regards, Bob
Thanks for sharing the build Bob. Simple is many times the best solution. Best of luck to you on the craft show! I am curious to hear how it goes. /Fredrik
So simple and nice looking. Better than a store bought. I've been keeping my pens in a pen container. I feel bad cause they should be on display like yours. My dad makes pens too. Mostly a bonding hobby for us. I love your videos.
Thank you Steve, The show wasn't all that bad. The weather was great and it would have been nice to sell a few more pens. But it is what it is. Thanks for the complement on the beard. It was kind of grown on a whim. Regards, Bob
Thank you David, Let's just say it was a learning experience, when I add up all the costs, I'm still in the red. I hope I can figure out the best formula and turn it around because doing the shows is fun. Regards, Bob
I’m still pretty new to pen turning but I love it. A question.....the bit you used to make the indentions for pen tips, what is that called? Is there a substitute since I know I don’t have one? Thanks. I truly appreciate all the videos.
Bob. What king of bit was used on the bottom? I have to make a couple for a store in a few weeks. Also could I possibly have the measurements please. I got the 24” but not sure about the holes
That was just a countersink bit I picked up at Lowe’s. I’m sorry but I don’t have measurements for the stands and when I quit doing shows I donated them to another pen turner who was getting started. Regards, Bob
+Grant Emory Hello Greg, I just used a standard wood bit. I can send you a photo as well as the brand if you'd like but there probably the most common bit. Bob
Hey Bob, you mentioned you were doing a craft show. Can you make a video about selling pens? I can't find any on youtube and I need help with deciding pricing and hitting the right customers. I try to sell them at high school but students don't have money for expensive pens. Any advice helps Thanks, Brenden
I really don't have a magic number, I just try to imagine what I would be willing to pay for the pen if I were buying it. People here in the Mid-West are very frugal. I could probably ask more in other areas of the country. I make my pens and sell them to buy more tools and consumables. I look at it as trading my services for the things I want. I am content with that. Regards, Bob
Search for "Plaustrum Crafts" that is Bobs Channel. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll contact him on Facebook to see if there is an issue. Regards, Bob
Beautiful channel, compliments!! I just subscribed. If you want to take a look at my channel I'd be glad. I'm a beginner with a great passion and I think I'll learn a lot from your video!! Bye. mauro

Thank you Gabriel,
It was just a quickie.

That was a great idea for a pen display. I hope to get my lathe set up before long and try my hand at turning pens. Thanks.

Thank you.
Very nice Bob. Sure makes the pens pop.
Thank you,
The last thing I wanted to do was take away from the pens so I kept it real simple.

Bob
Nice stand, Bob. I hope you did well at the show. I enjoyed the video. And the beard is looking pretty sharp too!
Thank you Steve,
The show wasn't all that bad. The weather was great and it would have been nice to sell a few more pens. But it is what it is.
Thanks for the complement on the beard. It was kind of grown on a whim.

Great idea and nice stand. Gonna give it a try.
Hope you were successful at the craft show.
Take care, Dave

Thank you Ron,
With all the complements, I think I'll keep it for a while.

love the stand, looks great and you make it look easy. I will try it and it will take 3 weeks😂
+Chris Landreth Thank you,
Luckily this project isn't all that bad to make.
Regards,
Bob
I’m still pretty new to pen turning but I love it. A question.....the bit you used to make the indentions for pen tips, what is that called? Is there a substitute since I know I don’t have one? Thanks. I truly appreciate all the videos.
I used a Forstner bit. You could use a standard bit with no problem at all.
Regards,
Bob
Neat display stand. Good luck at the craft fair and, oh by the way, I like the new chin decoration.
Thank you Michael,
It was a real quick functional project.
Thanks, there seems to be a lot more grey this year.
Regards,
Bob
Not to worry one day it will be completely white like mine. LOL
I'm lovin' the beard!
Pen display holder is nice. Thinking the same thing about the beard. It is a nice fit for you. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you David,
It will get tested out on Saturday. Thanks for the complement on the beard, I was Kind of unsure.
Regards,
Bob
Thanks Donald,
I grew it on a whim and was kind of unsure but it's growing on me. :^)
Regards,
Bob
Good luck with the craft show!
Thanks Donald,
It went pretty good today, I need one more day like that to make it really worth while.

Bob

Your videos are great and very informative, thank you for posting them.
What type of drill bit do you use for the bottom indentations on the display?
+Grant Emory Hello Greg,
I just used a standard wood bit. I can send you a photo as well as the brand if you'd like but there probably the most common bit.
Bob
Hi Bob - what size are the bits you use to make the holes for the stand - which looks great and I want to have a go at making one. Thanks
+Imelda Daly Hello Imelda, I believe I used a 1/2" Forstner bit. Pretty much any size will work as long as it will cradle your pen. Regards,Bob
Have you made any of those stands for anyone?
Bobby,
I have only made two and they were for me.
Regards,
Bob
Oh ok. Well if you ever do let me know because I don't have the tools and skill to make that myself lol. Thank you
Nice pen display. Good luck at the craft show. Are you selling other items too?
Thank you,
This is my first show so I'm testing the water with pens and if it goes well we will expand next year.
Regards,
Bob

Brendan,
I am shooting some video at your request and will attempt a craft show video. Thank you for the idea.

Bob
Where is the show that you are doing this weekend. I am in KY and looking for someplace to go.
Hello John,
The show is Kuntzfest in New Harmony, IN. It's the southern tip of Indiana.
Regards,
Bob
If you don't mind my asking, what percentage do you mark the pens up from purchase price to sale?
I really don't have a magic number, I just try to imagine what I would be willing to pay for the pen if I were buying it. People here in the Mid-West are very frugal. I could probably ask more in other areas of the country.
I make my pens and sell them to buy more tools and consumables. I look at it as trading my services for the things I want. I am content with that.

I really enjoyed this video & the turned beads from scrap wood - sorry your lathe died it would have been awesome
Thank you,
I really think that bead tumbler would have worked. I plan to try it again, maybe as a whirligig.
Regards,
Bob
