You just have to know how to play Puyo. It's one of those games that takes a while to master but once everything clicks your gameplay goes from painful to "wtf was that a 10 chain" very fast
I'm versed in the ways of the Puyo, I'm just not as good at it as Tetris.

Nice! This is one of my childhood favorites! Kirby is so sassy in this game! The game is also brutally difficult. One mistake can cost you the match! Also, the speed at which the Puyos drop on later levels is insane and the AI is pretty merciless.
I hope Vern plays Kirby's Dream Course next! That one is so much fun, too! It takes time to learn the nuances, but it is well worth playing!

Tbf, this is based on the original Puyo Puyo and it's ruleset...which notably doesn't feature offsetting (IE sending your garbage back at your opponent if you beat their chain) like every other game to follow, which is why this and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine are so much harder to get into.

Puyo puyo fan here, Kirby’s avalanche is a reskin of super puyo puyo (a game that came out WAY before puyo puyo Tetris), it was made to see if people like the concept of it now that it has recognizable characters in it. Because it was a reskin of super puyo puyo, it doesn’t have the offsetting feature (that was introduced in Puyo Puyo Tsu). (I know you’re going to type “☝️🤓” in the replies)
