Thanks so much! I use the adapter for sure and have used the 18-35mm on the R6. Since this is a full frame camera you will need to have the APS-C mode on while using this lens to avoid vignetting at 18mm. I have the GH5 as well and the sigma is such a great lens for that camera.
Thanks for this video. Great insight. Any overheating issues? I work in Florida a lot and am very concerned about everything I'm reading. If I record a ceremony that lasts approx 30mins I think I'm gonna be screwed. But I REALLY WANT IT!! Especially for photography.
Thanks so much! I totally get the concern. I personally have not recorded a ceremony solely with the R6 because I do know it has a 17 minute record limit before overheating happens. I wouldn't rely on this camera being your A camera, but definitely a great B cam or Floater for the Ceremony. I love the camera and have been really happy with it! Especially photography!
Hey Matthew, great questions! I am using the Control Ring Adapter and the Autofocus is super fast with this thing! The sigma glass can be a little noisy when focusing but it is super quick.
Thanks so much! I only ended up using one card for the whole day. It was a 256gb card and I’d say I used half of it. The files are pretty beefy but that’s to be expected.
@@WaywardNorth That's awesome!! We currently fill up a 125gb card and a 64gb card on average only shooting 1080p. Yeah Canon's 340Mbps bit rate for 4k is no joke, but really comes in handy when grading! Time for us to upgrade into the big boy cards I guess!
Great video! I noticed that some footage was in a longer aspect ratio was that done in post or can you film in that aspect ratio right out of the camera?
Amazing footage you've got here! I'm torn between getting this or the fuji xt4 strictly for wedding filmmaking as well as corporate videos. Which will you recommend?
Ive seen really good things about the XT4 but haven't had a chance to work with it yet. Personally, I do LOVE the R6 but would but if you are torn I would strongly recommend renting these two cameras and see which one might fit your workflow best!
@@WaywardNorth Thanks for responding so quickly. I also noticed that you use c100ii. Would you recommend this ahead of the r6 for wedding filmmaking? I currently use canon 200d so I'm leaning towards remaining with canon as I already have some lenses I'd like to keep.
@@joelnyatse3852 I definitely recommend the C100 mark ii's. These cameras are still amazing to work with and they give you great quality as well. Files sizes are small, built in ND filters, Battery Life is excellent, Picture quality excellent, no record time limit, no overheating potentials, 10/10 would recommend.
I'm so glad to see the Canon R6 reviewed so positively! I loved your footage and was quite surprised (and TBH happy) to see you didn't have overheating issues despite filming the whole day! Do you think the R6 overheats while shooting short clips but several of them back to back? As an example, can you film 15 to 20 (or even 10?) clips with length of each clip falling in the range 3 to 8 minutes without getting the camera to overheat (assume that the camera is ideal for about 30 to 60 seconds between each shot)?
Raviteja Karanam Hey! Great questions and thanks so much! I will say that when I was getting b-roll shots 10-15 seconds intermittently throughout the day, this was the best practice to avoid overheating. Anything longer than 2 minutes and you could feel the camera getting warm. It also it dependent on the environment you are in as well. But honestly I had a blast shooting with it and the results are incredible! I haven’t tested longer shooting times yet but I assume just following canons guide you have roughly 15 minutes before getting to that point.
What lens are you using in this footage or which do you use the most when focusing on wedding films? Definitely will be transitioning to the R6 but discovering what lens compliments it best for weddings + elopements in specific is my current hangup.
I’m so excited to try out this camera one day! Thanks for your video, really made me feel good about this decision. Do you use DSLR lenses? Or RF? Thanks
Thanks Karina! I am still using my Canon EF lenses with my R6. I have tested the RF glass and it is beautiful! Definitely an investment either route you go.
Nice review, and reeeeally nice sample footage! I think one of the key points you mentioned here was that the R6 was primarily your B-roll cam, which indicates to me that a camera like this cannot be trusted as an A cam for most longer form video content which is a real shame, as I was planning on getting it!
Yeah there are a few factors that don’t solidify the camera as A Cam due to the no backup SD Recording, Overheating past 17 minute continuous record. My narrative cam is the C100 but paired with the R6 for the portraits, dancing, little moments through the day. It’s a beast.
@@WaywardNorth I see, yeah I rented it out for the weekend and managed to do a short review based on the short-bursts B-roll experience I had. Loved it! Is that 17 minute recording limit on 4K only, or 1080p?
2 года назад
So such a good camera is crippling without this basic video option. It seems that the R6 cannot record on the card at the same time and keep the monitoring on the camera and via the HDMI connector? I hope Canon will solve this soon with new firmware. We have been denied that monitoring via Hdmi and touch autofocus on camera, option that much worse cameras have.
Do you think I can use this camera to shoot all broll, getting ready shots, first looks and stuff like that in 4k60 and then shooting 1080 during ceremony and speeches or will it need to be completely turned off through ceremony/speeches to recover ? Mine is being delivered tomorrow :)
Not much, I’ve been in photo mode (M) and been able to record video but the image won’t be c-log it will be a standard picture profile. You could adjust your standard profile to be more neutral so that there’s not so much saturation and contrast but there’s currently no option for being in video mode and capturing photos from that mode. Annoying for sure
Something I'm still confused about: How do you switch between 8-bit and 10-bit video? Or is Log automatically 10-bit, and non log profiles always 8-bit? I wish the menu would specify the bit depth of the shooting format.
Great question! It was something that took me a few to realize it as well. When you set your camera into C-log or C-log 3 it switches the output to H.265(10 bit) when you switch or shoot in a standard picture profile it compresses to H.264. Hope this helps!
Wow, that footage looks awesome! Love everything about it! What kind of cards did you use during the day to shoot 4k60? V30, V60.. Also do you use autofocus on your sigmas with the adapter or go all manual? I Love manual but sometimes auto is useful and haven’t had a chance to try it yet. What were your main lenses during the day with the r6? the channel is awesome, thanks for sharing so much great content!
Hey Roger, thanks so much for your kind words! For the cards I am using SanDisk 128 and 256GB cards SDXC Class 10. I have utilized the autofocus a few times, especially for tracking shots, it is so fast! I use a 24, 35, and 50mm for most of the day.
Loved this content! Really like the idea of having a roaming camera at wedding ceremonies! Where do you leave the gh5 as your center shot? do you put it on a tripod or leave the ronin on the ground?
Thanks so much! I have done both, most times I leave the GH5 on the tripod and then take it off when they exit but now I just leave it in the center and use the R6 as my exit cam
Great review and thanks for sharing. Question, I heard you say your GH5 was in the centre, how are you finding aligning colours to the R6? I'm a GH5 user shooting Real Estate and some corporate work, have been thinking of switching up to R6 or A7SIII while keeping the GH5 as well. Any thoughts? I'm really happy with GH5's log 4K 60p 10 bit when recorded externally but it's least impressive in low light. Thank you
Thanks so much! I used to use the GH5 for real estate but I do think having either the R6 and AS7iii would be better suited. Especially the R6 because of its versatility. As far as colors, I do notice the GH5 leans towards the yellow/green spectrum while the R6 is more red. I’ve gotten accustomed to the workflow and matching cameras but if you are in real estate I definitely recommend either canon or Sony!
@@WaywardNorth I couldn't agree more. I have some canon glass especially the macro lens that I love. So tough deciding between the A7III and R6, I absolutely LOVE the canon colours but Sony really stepped it up this time. I know it makes sense on the R because of the 4k crop factor, but would there ever be a reason to use an EF-S lens like the Sigma 18-35 on the R6? I was thinking of using it with the Drop In Filter adapter.
You can definitely use the Simga 18-35mm. The R6 has an APS-C mode that I actually love! I was concerned about that at first but I still use this lens on the R6
@@WaywardNorth Have you noticed any quality issues when going into crop mode. It's obviously just using a smaller portion of the sensor so I imagine there is slight drop off.
The 135mm works well for my ceremony angles, is the 70-200 F2.8L IS something that I would love to have..ABSOLUTELY. I mean it is definitely possible. It all depends on your shooting style, how long you are letting the camera run, how hot the temperature is outside, etc. For me, I am using this camera in 8-10 second increments and even when I do have to push it to a 2-3 minute clip, the camera does fine. From the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate your comment and it strives me to want to be a better filmmaker personally and with my team when we film weddings. @@vevideography same here, waiting for the r6, haven't arrived yet beacuse they jatve a silent recall of R5 amd R6 as the store have told me
Looks great! What SD cards did you use and how many did you use throughout the day?
I have a 128GB and a 256GB. I can use a 256 all day no problems!
@@WaywardNorth Ou! Did you do 4k60 8bit? No overheating?
@@GioBenavidez Hey, yep! I recorded in 4K 60 for the entire shoot, roughly 8 hours, didn’t have an issue. Keep in mind your shooting times, if you are filming 5-8 minute clips, the camera is more likely to get hot and overheat. For weddings most of my shots are 8-10 seconds.
Great video :) Do you maybe use EF-RF adapter with R6? I am using GH5 with Sigma 18-35 and I am curious how this lens would work with R6.
How is the autofocus while working with an adapter to the RF mount to your sigma glass? Which adapter are you using? Thanks!!
Hey Matthew, great questions! I am using the Control Ring Adapter and the Autofocus is super fast with this thing! The sigma glass can be a little noisy when focusing but it is super quick.
Wayward North Okay great! Haha yes I know the sigma glass needs a muzzle 😂
Awesome review! Just got me so stoked on the R6! Would love to hear which/how many memory cards you used for a wedding with the R6!
Tony Capo Thanks so much. So I did add the 2:39 aspect ratio bars in post. I always like to dress up my wedding films this way.
Hi - which lens are you using for this wedding? Is it the Sigma 18-35mm? Thank you
@@vivianwong5503 I believe I was using a 50mm prime along with the 18-35
How do you export to youtube with the EOSR6? It will be nice to know your specific settings as I upload and it compresses a lot. Anyway, nice video!!
Hey! I use H.264 and export in 4K to RUclips for all of my videos. Hope this helps! Thanks a lot
@@WaywardNorth thanks for the feedback!
can you make a tutorial on how to shoot clog and editing. Thank You.:)
That’s a great idea!
Hey when filming with your R6 and using an external monitor are you still able to use the touch screen on the camera?
I honestly think you will be fine if you went that route! Let me know how that works!
Nice colorgrades, what editing software you are using
do you have any tips or work arounds with going back and forth between photo and video?
@@WaywardNorth Thanks so much! good thoughts!
I absolutely agree on the colour side of things and I have been able to match some footage from my 80D to GH5 when shot 1080p. Thanks again
The reason I buy my canon r6 if because off you thank you I used to have canon 6D mark ii

hi! i was wondering what SD card you use for filming? mine keeps stopping after 10 seconds.
I have a 128GB Sandisk UHS-II. These are going to be the best for overall speed when recording in C-Log/H.264. For 8 bit recording, you can use the standard UHS-I Class 10 Sandisk Cards. The UHS-I is significantly cheaper but the UHS-II is better for speed and longevity.

@@WaywardNorth Awesome! Thank you so much!!
@@trogdor I haven't thus far but I will keep an eye out for that
Do you use a 70-200 for your ceremony? Or do you find your 135 works well for a shot / reverse shot of the B + G from the sides of the aisle?
The 135mm works well for my ceremony angles, is the 70-200 F2.8L IS something that I would love to have..ABSOLUTELY. Primarily because of the Image Stabilization but honestly with the R6 paired with the 135mm it is like having the 70-200 with IS. Super smooth and clean. But honesty, the 135 looks great and gets the job done and not to mean isn't enormous like the 70-200.

How possible is overheating when filming a wedding. 4K60
I mean it is definitely possible. It all depends on your shooting style, how long you are letting the camera run, how hot the temperature is outside, etc. For me, I am using this camera in 8-10 second increments and even when I do have to push it to a 2-3 minute clip, the camera does fine. I think if you were wanting to do a commercial project/interview etc where the camera would need to be recording for longer than 15 minutes is where you would start to see overheating.
@@WaywardNorth Thanks for this answer, I'm debating on this camera or the Panasonic S5. Have you had any expereince with the S5? What part of NC are you from?
