After watching the show, I can say it is 100% worth it. It's amazing and fun and though it doesn't perfectly align with the story in the anime, I love the details and storytelling they changed it to be. It's the same baseline but new at the same time! Really great work!
I don't even care if it isn't manga accurate. It's gonna be such a thrill to show my family my favorite story. Im so glad they are taking this seriously and I can't wait to see how the story plays out.

So far it's 100% manga accurate cause you have to remember EVERYTHING went by oda first for approval before even being in production all the to the whole filming. The cast is also 100% accurate on their nationalities
I heard Oda himself was in charge of the live action production. He isn't just supporting it he's in charge of it. He also met with the cast too. He's the one who decides who is cast and all final decisions about the cast and the series go through him. So if he doesn't like it, it won't get done. The fact that he decided it was good enough to proceed, means he thinks it'll be good. He's not just saying it because he's paid to. No other live action production has ever had the original writer be 99% in charge of everything about the live action. Usually they are just asked what they think and they say 'nice' or 'good' etc... but they aren't actually in charge of anything and have no say over most of the production. This is the first time the original writer is 99% in charge of everything about the live action. Of course, it won't be perfect because you can't have an anime become live action and have it be perfect. But he said the live action is an adaptation of the anime and shouldn't be exactly the same. But he still wants it to be as perfect as a live action can get.
They have to run everything by Oda to get it approved so yes, he is extremely involved. Oda even had certain conditions that had to be met too that the live action and Netflix had to agree to. Oda also took a break from writing the newest One Piece chapters of the manga because he is currently in charge of and oversees all productions and stuff of the live action. You are correct in the fact that Oda does not actually make an appearance as himself in the live action series. But behind the scenes he is the main person in charge of the live action. Many Japanese people are all about honor unlike other countries (although there have been some exceptions). The thing I love the most about Japan is that they do not have a tip system. They find it offensive if you tip them because to them it means their service was not good enough and you feel sorry for them, thus leaving their a 'tip'. I like that the writers kept it true to the manga made Nami is more like a sister of all the strawhat crew members who looks after all of them instead of some cheap love interest. Emily is really passionate about One Piece world.
yes, thank you! i saw several people complaining about matt saying nami was basically their sister because it invalidates their favorite ships-when one of the cruxes of one piece has always been the “found family” trope. and that’s what the straw hats are to each other, family
Agreed. Plus, a lot of Netflix shows from the last 5 years focus on love triangles or romance plots: the Whitcher (Geralt & Yennifer), Marco Polo, Bridgerton. Emily in Paris. This show, just for casual viewers, might get more attention since it's dominant found-family, life-long friends but any romance only comes from Sanji's....problem. Though it might be pretty entertaining watching Zoro and Sanji squabble together over the cook's attitude. I'm looking forward to see Zoro getting lost, too. How else would he wind-up dow that well........ Or if the producers go all the way to Water 7, imagine Mackenry stuck down a chimney....?
The actors just ARE the crew. The chemistry is so incredible. Its very clear that everyone wants to honor the source material and it should really be commended how much work they've put in. Really hoping it doesn't disappoint.
What I like about this adaptation so far is that they are not throwing off important details or sticking straight to the source, they are adapting the source to real life and really making sure to convert it in a way that makes sense for a live action tv series.
I would expect something like the Speed Racer live action were they it acts like a real life anime with flat cartoony visuals. It would work for One Piece since it’s cartoonish a bit.

one piece is such a hard story to adapt like this, yet I can't help but feel excited by seeing the cast like this. If they nail the balance of silliness and seriousness that one piece has, and do justice to arlong park, this will be awesome.
Man, I'm getting so emotional watching this. I've been a fan of One Piece since I was 10 years old. I'm turning 30 this year. This story has been a part of me the majority of my life. I know everyone's apprehensive about anime live action adaption, and for good reasons, but looking at the material so far I think this one is it. It has the spirit of Romance Dawn, you know?
The casting is spot on. Watching the passion for this flick with Oda heavily involved makes my 26 years of One Piece loving heart beat faster and faster.

Dude, I literally freaked out when I heard Jacob's portrayal of usop that was so cool I'm so freaking excited. I love this right after that. Some sanji dialogue too. They truly are the straw hats.

From what I have gathered about this project, it seems to be an adaptation with so much passion and whimsy. If they can pull this off it could be up there for one of the best anime adaptations ever made and I actually feel like I'm being realistic here.
as a non fan its insane how invested i already am w this adaptation. like i could feel the heart and dedication, from the acting to the promotional material, that i so badly want this to succeed! im glad one piece fans get to have this. the beauty of fandom truly

It's just the horny weebs will ruin the shows reputation bcs they dont like it. They don't like the look of realistic characters, they wanted it to stay fantasy. For them to fill their cum jars.
One Piece is literally one if not the hardest anime to adapt to live action movie/drama due to the quirkiness of the characters and the scale of its popularity and respect among the anime/manga community. Doesn't matter if it's a success or failure, the effort and risk that they put to bring this monumental series to live deserve big praise and recognition.
actually no that's false. It does matter if it's a success or a failure, this production is 18m dollars per episode, 3 more than game of thrones and to be honest it doesn't live up to it at all. Terrible actors, low quality costume design (nami is wearing a wig...), terrible lines and scripting and the list goes on. The effort and the incredible marketing is there courtesy of netflix, but that's about it. Realistically it's going to bomb, hope it doesn't but I would bet is is. Also, this is coming from a huge OP fan.
And somehow, Netflix accomplished the Impossible. Even watching Mihawk's scenes remained serious and subtle instead of over-the-top, and Fishman was more serious than amusing. They even made Sanji and Nami's back-stories dabble into horror instead of adventure. Even Haki or a "flying slash" did not come out too ridiculously and the fighting scenes have more flavours of Ruonin Kenshin instead of garbage anime adaptations (Dragon Ball, Avatar).

I've never read or watched one piece, having only known about the characters through clips from the anime, but the cast really feels like they ARE the characters.
I've been defending the Live Action for almost two years, because i believed that it can be done and it can reach a wider audience and make One Piece even more popular. I've given tens of thousands of likes to positive comments across youtube/twitter/instagram and i've also wrote hundreds of positive comments myself. The teaser was a little bit scary, because it definitely showed that the entire cast/crew realy cared and understanded One Piece, but it wasnt very convincing in other aspects and the community was divided. But the trailer changed everything for a lot of people and it's honestly amazing seeing the opinions of so many people change over the past two years. The moment of truth is finally here and i just wanna say thank you, to all the people who have kept a positive attitude regarding the Live Action.
I’m mainly going to be worried with a potential second season since East Blue would be easy to adapt. I’m going to be worried at how they handle Chopper.
You are right, the series only get whackier and whackier and there are definitely going to be some hits and misses, so i realy hope that they get Chopper right, because he is an integral part of the crew and will also have a lot of screen time.@@Phanthief95
So far everything about this is giving me good vibes, from the visuals to the way the cast and crew are talking about not just their show but also the manga and trying to stay a true to its spirit.
Oda has been involved directly with the show as a producer, so that gives it a bump, so I hope it proves to be something sucessful, thou it will not beat the manga or the anime, but hopefully it will inspire people to check those out, even if the anime is, um, somewhere around the 1073 mark, at the time of writing!!

This is the whole reason why I finally subscribed to Netflix after all these years. One Piece is such a good anime, my childhood. And the live adaptation didn't disappoint me, they gave justice to the favorite characters I loved so much.
The adaptation trailer made me watch the anime for the first time and now with a little more knowledge with the story, I can see the references and how well they adapted everything, without a doubt, this is a project with a lot of heart and it was done with love by each party involved. I can't wait for it to premiere
It made me rewatch the anime I grew up watching the OP 4kids anime. But stop i think after a certain arc ended but Anime expo this year I saw the live action teaser it got me to rewatch it on crunchyroll was like mind blowing for me tho 4kid changed alot I remember so many scenes and on top of that I was so in aw how incredibly the straw hats are and the acrs are in the anime and am over all enjoying rediscovering one piece. And it also makes me excited for the live action.

Seriously? Can you remember in which trailer there was a moment where Nami and Zoro are arguing, Loofy says "I feel tension in the team", and they angrily reply "we are not a team"? Who can really believe that the real Luffy would say "I can feel the tension in the team"?
Oda himself worked on this project, made sure it was to his liking, and even had the cast and crew reshoot and redo some scenes in order to make it so! If that does not scream dedication, I don’t know what does. I have faith that this is going to be a lot of fun!

It's a series. This will have some differences to the manga and anime but it's following the same story. This is to reach out to a whole new audience so if all goes well just stick to the series but feel free to get the manga also

I believe that most legit OP fans aren't looking for perfection or an absolute adaptation of the anime/manga. What is valued most is that we can see the love and respect the production team had for the source material. Seeing the trailers and this inside scoop makes me feel excited to experience OP in a new medium.
i want the show to be good enough for non one piece fans, because that means for us one piece fans it is a 10/10 and the show can go on for more seasons
Im a vivid fan of op. And im sp hype for this adaptation. Whats matter to me is not change too much about the story and i guess im so happy that they came into real characters. Hopefully, will be able to see the rest of the crew.

Well it looks good but it not going to be truly faithful. Luffy is very different. Personally I think that’s a good thing because I don’t really like him in the anime but it could upset some fans. Usop might not be as much of a liar though it was impossible to tell from the trailer.
I’m so excited for this series! I am woman who will be be turning 44 yrs old on August 31st. This show and manga mean the world to me! I grew up with it. I have full faith in the Netflix series no matter what the critics may say. They may not understand it. I have 2 sons, one 23 yrs old and the other 21 yrs old, who love watching One Piece as I do. They are exclusive anime watchers while I am the only manga reader. As a manga reader, I consider myself the lucky one. 😁 I want to thank you Oda sensei for bringing light to my life when I almost lost it 2 times due to serious medical issues. I watched the entire series, for a second time, as I recovered from heart surgery. I believe Oda sensei, perhaps, you and I grew up watching the same cartoons. My dad introduced me to Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes in the 1990’s. He died soon after in the late 1990’s from the same heart issues that I deal with to this day. My dad loved cartoons and I carry his love of animation with me. Thank you for honoring my childhood and bringing it to life. I am so thankful that the laughs and legacy from our childhood live on for the next generation to enjoy! Much love ❤️

Okay finding out that Mackenyu grew up with OP and Zoro was his favorite character is awesome, he is playing his hero. Seeing Luffy hug Coby goodbye was so sweet and seeing Emily and Jacob hold hands was sweet, they were the weakling duo
I'm a fan of one peice and I expect that this won't turn out to be 100% like the manga but still I'm okay with that. I reaaally hope this will turn out to be good if not a masterpiece just like the original source material. And you can really see how much effort and love the actors have put into it. And that further increases my desire to watch it more than I already do.
Everyone involved seems so passionate about making this the best that it can be, and given how universally popular One Piece is, that's definitely not an easy feat. Its clear the actors are perfect, but what really gets me is the set design. Seeing the Going Merry and the Baratie gave me chills, nothing looks rushed or carelessly thrown together (and if i'm not mistaken, the sets were all built by hand, right?). The more I look at this, the more excited I become. I really hope it does well.
this really takes me back to the lord of the rings trilogy days where everything was built like the sets for the big battles and smaller stuff too im getting so nostalgic lord of the rings vibes seeing these one piece sets ngl
They wanted to keep things feeling as realistic as possible BECAUSE adapting anime into live action is already a hard feat, so they hand built a lot of the sets and used prosthetics instead of cgi when they could. There's apparently just a cast of buggy's head that sits in one of the team's house lol. The transponder snails are animatronic & puppeted with removable eyeballs to have good expressions and customized to look like their users. I'm not sure if people realize, but that's a lot of love to put into such a small detail. I think there are ppl who are shitting on this before even giving it a chance. I'm with you; I think it's clear they put a lot of work into this, and I'm excited to share the story with ppl who wouldn't watch anime, otherwise.

This might be the first live action adaptation done by people that love and grew up with the anime/manga. That's why it's going to be a success. Also helps to have a workhorse like Oda-san involved in everything. If the man that created and loves One Piece more than anybody is satisfied with this live action all I can say is that I hope is a tremendous success.
bro don't believe that easily I watched so many serials and tv shows and almost all of these actors always said the same thing like they grew up on this character and the are similiars and bla bla bla. Its pretty much easy to fake smile and give people what they want and get more people.
The first one made by the US, maybe, but not first one ever. City Hunter & Cupid's Perfume, for example, was also made by a team of fans that wanted the approval of Tsukasa Hojo, and is appreciated by the fans who watched it. Otherwise, yeah, this live action looks incredible !
@@dan7892 I choose to believe. Oda has been heavily involved, the cast is nearly perfect in every character, they have recreated all the ships from zero, and most important mostly of the story will be the same, and some changes are for the better like giving more time to Koby, Helmeppo or Garp.
honestly i’m always doubtful of live action adaptations for anime (especially for something as cartoony as one piece) but every trailer and behind the scenes video i’ve seen for this has completely charmed me. i’m surprised by how excited i am for this now!! here’s hoping for season 2 🙌🏼

INCREDIBLE. The fight scenes feature tons of impressive stunts and are dense with background action. The sets & costumes look amazing. Every actor is turning in a phenomenal performance (I can already tell Arlong Park is gonna be a tearjerker). FOXY! The One Piece is Real.

Watching the series, I could easily see how much effort everyone put in, and how much love when into making this series! Netflix, you need to give us Season 2, and I expect at LEAST the same level of everything! Please don't skimp and wimp out of us for Season 2!

Where they lied about the production budget and the director, to get people in? They manipulated the contracts and papers to make it look having a 130 Mio. dollar budget and Steven Chow directing the movie (the guy who directed Kung Fu Hustle). But it was just a 30 Mio. dollar production with a completely different and inexperienced director. And they shit on everything to keep it cheap. Evolution is the reason Toriyama created Battle of Gods and then Super. He felt betrayed, after he gave his ok to Evoultion it. The entire production of Evolution was a shitfest. But we got the new manga, movies, shows afterwards because of it.
I’m so excited…this is gonna be absolutely amazing, Jacob Romero looks like he’s perfectly capturing Usopp, and that last “nothing’s gonna stand in our way”…I heard Luffy…it was perfect.

It's gonna be it's own adaptation. The manga is the manga, the fountain through which all things One Piece springs. The anime is the anime, giving voices to the characters for 20 years, and now finally the live action, re-creating in a new medium to enjoy.

Nami holding Usopp’s hand fits so well since both characters have a good friendship with each other. They’re the 2 most human members of the crew whereas everyone else isn’t human, either metaphorically or literally, & as such are 2 members of “the Weakling Trio”. As well, Usopp does make the Clima Tact, Nami’s signature weapon.
This made me cry! I love One Piece so, so much as I'm sure all of us do. I can just feel the care and love that was put into this. I've got my mom and my brother to take the day off with me and watch it together. I got my mom into the anime in 2021 and this will be the first time showing my bro One Piece, and I'm super confident he will like this because of how great it already feels!! Thank you Matt Owens for taking this on! I can't wait for the 31st!!! This month has been torture waiting 😂 And the actors are amazing! I love our crew so far! Iñaki is 100% Luffy!!
The director honoring and working closely with "Oda-Sensei" gives me high hopes for this. It was totally different with Cowboy Beebop where it's original creator couldn't even stomach even the first scene of the live action version.
Well, one thing we can't deny about this show is that it was made with love. In every interview I see about this show I can feel the love and excitement the crew has. They love One Piece manga and for me that's enough to watch the show. Netflix has done so much crap in recent years that I have stopped watching anything they do, BUT, I will make an exception for this show because I truly see the love they have for the manga Eiichiro Oda has created and I respect that. One Piece is one of my top 3 favorite anime/manga of all time and i'm willing to give this group of actors and staff a chance. I really wish them luck on this, they look like really nice people that are doing this with love and care.
Emily in that original design outfit kills me every time... she looks so good! gosh, Taz's hair looks great too, mackenyu jacob and inaki even cooler with these new scenes; I feel like I can grasp Jacob's usopp better.. also, Koby and helmeppo are spot on Inaki's smile is very contagious
Look, we all understand how crazy difficult it is to translate a manga/anime into live action. Many tried, many failed. This looks like one of the better attempts. Still, everyone should manage their expectations going into this, so that we might be positively surprised, if anything. Most importantly, a lot of love went into this, which is why millions of fans around the world will give it a fair shot.
This looks like so much fun, such a spirited adaptation. You can tell there is passion behind this, and what I’m most excited about is this making One Piece more accessible for those who are afraid to start such a massive story
I am rewatching the anime up to 1st season before the 31st because frankly I watched when I was a teenager and I hardly remember it. This show is getting me back into to watching One Piece.
Buggy and Helmeppo are freaking perfect in this. They nailed the casting and performances for so many side characters. Not every single one, but most of them for sure
This doesn't look bad at all like its not flawless either but its still good to look at and they have done a good job with the costumes and capturing the goofiness and weird amazing world of One Piece. Adapting something like One Piece to live action will always be hard and difficult job. Hope the actual show delivers.

The casting for this show is perfect. I love seeing how the crew interacts with eachother off set. I really want this to be good more than anything
After watching the show, I can say it is 100% worth it. It's amazing and fun and though it doesn't perfectly align with the story in the anime, I love the details and storytelling they changed it to be. It's the same baseline but new at the same time! Really great work!
I don't even care if it isn't manga accurate. It's gonna be such a thrill to show my family my favorite story. Im so glad they are taking this seriously and I can't wait to see how the story plays out.

And to be fair, the anime series is also sometimes manga inaccurate.
So far it's 100% manga accurate cause you have to remember EVERYTHING went by oda first for approval before even being in production all the to the whole filming. The cast is also 100% accurate on their nationalities

I heard Oda himself was in charge of the live action production. He isn't just supporting it he's in charge of it. He also met with the cast too. He's the one who decides who is cast and all final decisions about the cast and the series go through him. So if he doesn't like it, it won't get done. The fact that he decided it was good enough to proceed, means he thinks it'll be good. He's not just saying it because he's paid to. No other live action production has ever had the original writer be 99% in charge of everything about the live action. Usually they are just asked what they think and they say 'nice' or 'good' etc... but they aren't actually in charge of anything and have no say over most of the production. This is the first time the original writer is 99% in charge of everything about the live action. Of course, it won't be perfect because you can't have an anime become live action and have it be perfect. But he said the live action is an adaptation of the anime and shouldn't be exactly the same. But he still wants it to be as perfect as a live action can get.

They have to run everything by Oda to get it approved so yes, he is extremely involved. Oda even had certain conditions that had to be met too that the live action and Netflix had to agree to. Oda also took a break from writing the newest One Piece chapters of the manga because he is currently in charge of and oversees all productions and stuff of the live action. You are correct in the fact that Oda does not actually make an appearance as himself in the live action series. But behind the scenes he is the main person in charge of the live action. Also, he's already one of the most legendary people out there and has lots of $. He doesn't need more. So it's most likely not about the $. Many Japanese people are all about honor unlike other countries (although there have been some exceptions). The thing I love the most about Japan is that they do not have a tip system. They find it offensive if you tip them because to them it means their service was not good enough and you feel sorry for them, thus leaving their a 'tip'.

I like that the writers kept it true to the manga made Nami is more like a sister of all the strawhat crew members who looks after all of them instead of some cheap love interest. Emily is really passionate about One Piece world.

Agreed. Plus, a lot of Netflix shows from the last 5 years focus on love triangles or romance plots: the Whitcher (Geralt & Yennifer), Marco Polo, Bridgerton. Emily in Paris.
This show, just for casual viewers, might get more attention since it's dominant found-family, life-long friends but any romance only comes from Sanji's....problem. Though it might be pretty entertaining watching Zoro and Sanji squabble together over the cook's attitude.
I'm looking forward to see Zoro getting lost, too. How else would he wind-up dow that well........

The actors just ARE the crew. The chemistry is so incredible. Its very clear that everyone wants to honor the source material and it should really be commended how much work they've put in. Really hoping it doesn't disappoint.

What I like about this adaptation so far is that they are not throwing off important details or sticking straight to the source, they are adapting the source to real life and really making sure to convert it in a way that makes sense for a live action tv series.
I would expect something like the Speed Racer live action were they it acts like a real life anime with flat cartoony visuals. It would work for One Piece since it’s cartoonish a bit.

From what I have gathered about this project, it seems to be an adaptation with so much passion and whimsy. If they can pull this off it could be up there for one of the best anime adaptations ever made and I actually feel like I'm being realistic here.

One Piece is literally one if not the hardest anime to adapt to live action movie/drama due to the quirkiness of the characters and the scale of its popularity and respect among the anime/manga community. Doesn't matter if it's a success or failure, the effort and risk that they put to bring this monumental series to live deserve big praise and recognition.
actually no that's false. It does matter if it's a success or a failure, this production is 18m dollars per episode, 3 more than game of thrones and to be honest it doesn't live up to it at all. Terrible actors, low quality costume design (nami is wearing a wig...), terrible lines and scripting and the list goes on. The effort and the incredible marketing is there courtesy of netflix, but that's about it. Realistically it's going to bomb, hope it doesn't but I would bet is is. Also, this is coming from a huge OP fan.

Even watching Mihawk's scenes remained serious and subtle instead of over-the-top, and Fishman was more serious than amusing.
They even made Sanji and Nami's back-stories dabble into horror instead of adventure.
Even Haki or a "flying slash" did not come out too ridiculously and the fighting scenes have more flavours of Ruonin Kenshin instead of garbage anime adaptations (Dragon Ball, Avatar).

I've never read or watched one piece, having only known about the characters through clips from the anime, but the cast really feels like they ARE the characters.
I've been defending the Live Action for almost two years, because i believed that it can be done and it can reach a wider audience and make One Piece even more popular. I've given tens of thousands of likes to positive comments across youtube/twitter/instagram and i've also wrote hundreds of positive comments myself. The teaser was a little bit scary, because it definitely showed that the entire cast/crew realy cared and understanded One Piece, but it wasnt very convincing in other aspects and the community was divided. But the trailer changed everything for a lot of people and it's honestly amazing seeing the opinions of so many people change over the past two years. The moment of truth is finally here and i just wanna say thank you, to all the people who have kept a positive attitude regarding the Live Action.

So far everything about this is giving me good vibes, from the visuals to the way the cast and crew are talking about not just their show but also the manga and trying to stay a true to its spirit.
I really want this to be a success. The cast really deserve it. I really hope the writers didn’t let them down.
Oda has been involved directly with the show as a producer, so that gives it a bump, so I hope it proves to be something sucessful, thou it will not beat the manga or the anime, but hopefully it will inspire people to check those out, even if the anime is, um, somewhere around the 1073 mark, at the time of writing!!

This is the whole reason why I finally subscribed to Netflix after all these years. One Piece is such a good anime, my childhood. And the live adaptation didn't disappoint me, they gave justice to the favorite characters I loved so much.
The adaptation trailer made me watch the anime for the first time and now with a little more knowledge with the story, I can see the references and how well they adapted everything, without a doubt, this is a project with a lot of heart and it was done with love by each party involved. I can't wait for it to premiere
It made me rewatch the anime I grew up watching the OP 4kids anime. But stop i think after a certain arc ended but Anime expo this year I saw the live action teaser it got me to rewatch it on crunchyroll was like mind blowing for me tho 4kid changed alot I remember so many scenes and on top of that I was so in aw how incredibly the straw hats are and the acrs are in the anime and am over all enjoying rediscovering one piece. And it also makes me excited for the live action.

Oda himself worked on this project, made sure it was to his liking, and even had the cast and crew reshoot and redo some scenes in order to make it so! If that does not scream dedication, I don’t know what does. I have faith that this is going to be a lot of fun!

It's a series. This will have some differences to the manga and anime but it's following the same story. This is to reach out to a whole new audience so if all goes well just stick to the series but feel free to get the manga also

I believe that most legit OP fans aren't looking for perfection or an absolute adaptation of the anime/manga. What is valued most is that we can see the love and respect the production team had for the source material. Seeing the trailers and this inside scoop makes me feel excited to experience OP in a new medium.
i want the show to be good enough for non one piece fans, because that means for us one piece fans it is a 10/10 and the show can go on for more seasons

Well it looks good but it not going to be truly faithful. Luffy is very different. Personally I think that’s a good thing because I don’t really like him in the anime but it could upset some fans. Usop might not be as much of a liar though it was impossible to tell from the trailer.

I’m so excited for this series! I am woman who will be be turning 44 yrs old on August 31st. This show and manga mean the world to me! I grew up with it. I have full faith in the Netflix series no matter what the critics may say. They may not understand it. I have 2 sons, one 23 yrs old and the other 21 yrs old, who love watching One Piece as I do. They are exclusive anime watchers while I am the only manga reader. As a manga reader, I consider myself the lucky one. 😁 I want to thank you Oda sensei for bringing light to my life when I almost lost it 2 times due to serious medical issues. I watched the entire series, for a second time, as I recovered from heart surgery. I believe Oda sensei, perhaps, you and I grew up watching the same cartoons. My dad introduced me to Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes in the 1990’s. He died soon after in the late 1990’s from the same heart issues that I deal with to this day. My dad loved cartoons and I carry his love of animation with me. Thank you for honoring my childhood and bringing it to life. I am so thankful that the laughs and legacy from our childhood live on for the next generation to enjoy! Much love ❤️

Okay finding out that Mackenyu grew up with OP and Zoro was his favorite character is awesome, he is playing his hero. Seeing Luffy hug Coby goodbye was so sweet and seeing Emily and Jacob hold hands was sweet, they were the weakling duo

I'm a fan of one peice and I expect that this won't turn out to be 100% like the manga but still I'm okay with that. I reaaally hope this will turn out to be good if not a masterpiece just like the original source material. And you can really see how much effort and love the actors have put into it. And that further increases my desire to watch it more than I already do.
Yeah. We have been told already that parts will be chanhed. A big one we know of is that Arlong will be at the Baratie
Everyone involved seems so passionate about making this the best that it can be, and given how universally popular One Piece is, that's definitely not an easy feat. Its clear the actors are perfect, but what really gets me is the set design. Seeing the Going Merry and the Baratie gave me chills, nothing looks rushed or carelessly thrown together (and if i'm not mistaken, the sets were all built by hand, right?). The more I look at this, the more excited I become. I really hope it does well.
this really takes me back to the lord of the rings trilogy days where everything was built like the sets for the big battles and smaller stuff too im getting so nostalgic lord of the rings vibes seeing these one piece sets ngl
They wanted to keep things feeling as realistic as possible BECAUSE adapting anime into live action is already a hard feat, so they hand built a lot of the sets and used prosthetics instead of cgi when they could. There's apparently just a cast of buggy's head that sits in one of the team's house lol. The transponder snails are animatronic & puppeted with removable eyeballs to have good expressions and customized to look like their users. I'm not sure if people realize, but that's a lot of love to put into such a small detail. I think there are ppl who are shitting on this before even giving it a chance.
I'm with you; I think it's clear they put a lot of work into this, and I'm excited to share the story with ppl who wouldn't watch anime, otherwise.

This might be the first live action adaptation done by people that love and grew up with the anime/manga. That's why it's going to be a success.
Also helps to have a workhorse like Oda-san involved in everything.
If the man that created and loves One Piece more than anybody is satisfied with this live action all I can say is that I hope is a tremendous success.
It's better to look down on the original work and fire all passionate people xD

bro don't believe that easily I watched so many serials and tv shows and almost all of these actors always said the same thing like they grew up on this character and the are similiars and bla bla bla. Its pretty much easy to fake smile and give people what they want and get more people.
The first one made by the US, maybe, but not first one ever.
City Hunter & Cupid's Perfume, for example, was also made by a team of fans that wanted the approval of Tsukasa Hojo, and is appreciated by the fans who watched it.
Otherwise, yeah, this live action looks incredible !
@@dan7892 I choose to believe. Oda has been heavily involved, the cast is nearly perfect in every character, they have recreated all the ships from zero, and most important mostly of the story will be the same, and some changes are for the better like giving more time to Koby, Helmeppo or Garp.
I want this live action to get hit, just by seeing this guys efforts and excitement for one piece !!
honestly i’m always doubtful of live action adaptations for anime (especially for something as cartoony as one piece) but every trailer and behind the scenes video i’ve seen for this has completely charmed me. i’m surprised by how excited i am for this now!! here’s hoping for season 2 🙌🏼
I will be satisfied with the show if it’s at the least a 7/10. That’ll be better than most live action adaptations, so it’s a passing grade for me.

Even if the show doesn't meet expectations, it'll be a great adaptation. This shows that the showrunners, cast, and crew have a deep love for the material.

INCREDIBLE. The fight scenes feature tons of impressive stunts and are dense with background action. The sets & costumes look amazing. Every actor is turning in a phenomenal performance (I can already tell Arlong Park is gonna be a tearjerker). FOXY! The One Piece is Real.

It’s amazing, I remember watching it less then a year ago and recently picked it back up a few months back, but the thing is I’ve always known of it as a kid, now I’m currently on 950, it’s insane how far it’s come and just seeing it’s progress with my own eyes, I’m just glad to be apart of the journey 🔥

Watching the series, I could easily see how much effort everyone put in, and how much love when into making this series! Netflix, you need to give us Season 2, and I expect at LEAST the same level of everything! Please don't skimp and wimp out of us for Season 2!

Where they lied about the production budget and the director, to get people in? They manipulated the contracts and papers to make it look having a 130 Mio. dollar budget and Steven Chow directing the movie (the guy who directed Kung Fu Hustle). But it was just a 30 Mio. dollar production with a completely different and inexperienced director. And they shit on everything to keep it cheap.
Evolution is the reason Toriyama created Battle of Gods and then Super. He felt betrayed, after he gave his ok to Evoultion it. The entire production of Evolution was a shitfest. But we got the new manga, movies, shows afterwards because of it.

I've been following the news around this project since I first heard about it, and I've gone from cautious optimism to so much love and excitement. I don't expect this to be flawless, but I can see the love and care pouring out of every shot and crew member. Like, I can't help but smile watching this. They really found the East Blue Strawhats irl!! I will be there to watch and support, for sure

It's gonna be it's own adaptation. The manga is the manga, the fountain through which all things One Piece springs. The anime is the anime, giving voices to the characters for 20 years, and now finally the live action, re-creating in a new medium to enjoy.
the casting is absolutely perfect! they're all straight out of the manga/anime. the production has been great from what we've seen so far. i have high hopes on this one 🙏🏻

They’re the 2 most human members of the crew whereas everyone else isn’t human, either metaphorically or literally, & as such are 2 members of “the Weakling Trio”. As well, Usopp does make the Clima Tact, Nami’s signature weapon.

I’m so drawn to all the Straw Hats!! I really wish I enjoy it fully and get the nostalgic feeling the anime established.
This made me cry! I love One Piece so, so much as I'm sure all of us do. I can just feel the care and love that was put into this. I've got my mom and my brother to take the day off with me and watch it together. I got my mom into the anime in 2021 and this will be the first time showing my bro One Piece, and I'm super confident he will like this because of how great it already feels!! Thank you Matt Owens for taking this on! I can't wait for the 31st!!! This month has been torture waiting 😂 And the actors are amazing! I love our crew so far! Iñaki is 100% Luffy!!

The director honoring and working closely with "Oda-Sensei" gives me high hopes for this. It was totally different with Cowboy Beebop where it's original creator couldn't even stomach even the first scene of the live action version.

Well, one thing we can't deny about this show is that it was made with love. In every interview I see about this show I can feel the love and excitement the crew has. They love One Piece manga and for me that's enough to watch the show.
Netflix has done so much crap in recent years that I have stopped watching anything they do, BUT, I will make an exception for this show because I truly see the love they have for the manga Eiichiro Oda has created and I respect that. One Piece is one of my top 3 favorite anime/manga of all time and i'm willing to give this group of actors and staff a chance.
I really wish them luck on this, they look like really nice people that are doing this with love and care.

Look, we all understand how crazy difficult it is to translate a manga/anime into live action. Many tried, many failed. This looks like one of the better attempts. Still, everyone should manage their expectations going into this, so that we might be positively surprised, if anything. Most importantly, a lot of love went into this, which is why millions of fans around the world will give it a fair shot.
This looks like so much fun, such a spirited adaptation. You can tell there is passion behind this, and what I’m most excited about is this making One Piece more accessible for those who are afraid to start such a massive story
I am rewatching the anime up to 1st season before the 31st because frankly I watched when I was a teenager and I hardly remember it. This show is getting me back into to watching One Piece.

Buggy and Helmeppo are freaking perfect in this. They nailed the casting and performances for so many side characters. Not every single one, but most of them for sure
This doesn't look bad at all like its not flawless either but its still good to look at and they have done a good job with the costumes and capturing the goofiness and weird amazing world of One Piece. Adapting something like One Piece to live action will always be hard and difficult job. Hope the actual show delivers.
Considering Oda is directly involved to the point he had them reshoot/redo entire bits of episodes... It should definitely deliver.
