Don't know why this came up on my recs, but might as well. I tend to believe that it's a- you got to hold both things- problem(and that you can do this). A person who does something negative/hurtful who has had experience that has encouraged that, and someone who does positive/neutral things that has had that encouraged that, can be held with both of those things in mind. The way you treat someone's actions and decisions ideally fits contextual to them. Which includes both the actions and what has led them to this. If someone does something despite themselves(as in they are try/learning to change) vs unknowingly vs maliciously. Those are and should be treated with a different amount and, I would say, types of grace. On the subject of praise in natural calm vs not naturally calm. I think actively calm vs passively calm is the way that i think about it. From that my impulse response is- then active and passive praise(reward). If you're actively being calm, learning how to be calm, then the people around you will (hopefully) actively be with you in that. If your passively calm, you get the benifit of being considered calm(like as a part of you). tldr- you get a sticker when you're doing a good job or the benifit of being known as a chill dude👍
you’re right, there r so many factors to consider. probably most of which you’re not even aware of but it’s definitely important to try and consider what you do know + extra possibilities. nd the way you summed up being active/passively calm makes totally sense in with you on that
