      They must have changed dramatically. My brother left his 7 year old Suzuki in France when the engine failed. He was told the cost wasn't worth taken it home and getting a new engine. That was 15k down the drain after only 18 months of ownership.

      @Muso Seven it was a Grand Vitara. As for what went wrong with it, I don't really know. I think the timing belt snapped just out of nowhere. If it happened in the UK, it was worth sorting out an engine but to bring it home at the time, he got quotes of £4.5/5k for someone to go over collect it and bring it to Scotland. (Basically, nobody wanted to do it. Plus new engine etc. These days, you could probably get someone to bring it over for £2k.
      In the end, it was a bad, costly experience. He told me to never ever buy a Suzuki

    Just ordered one, my third S-cross. Super reliable, easy to drive, works well on narrow Highland roads and has a great 4 wheel drive system which I need in winter (no treatment on some of our local roads). The new car is a big step forward. Personally, I think an SUV without 4 wheel drive is a strange choice. The Suzuki multi mode drive system works really well.

      For us Southerners with more rain than snow the 2WD with good all climate tyres is more than adequate. In fact I don't know why Suzuki UK use summer Continentals as they're useless in the winter and detract from the brand. Also the likes of Dacia Duster, Ford Focus (Active X) and LR Evoque are all great off roaders in 2wd format with decent tyres. I've seen 1990s/2000s 2wd Volvo's with winter tyres (and winter traction setting on auto gearbox) out perform posh Range Rovers in bad snow - heck our old Hyundai ix20 with version 1 Michelin Cross Climates out performed many 4x4s in the snow (road closure conditions). Torque plays it's part too of course.

    Suzuki keep the engineering as simple as possible without compromising safety, driving enjoyment and customer satisfaction. These are the reasons that Suzuki always perform well in customer satisfaction and reliability surveys. The 1.4 Booster jet engine is a peach. Long term a very good buy.

    I have just bought a week ago, an S cross motion AGS, which has the 1.5 engine, and the AGS semi auto gearbox. I watched numerous reviews before deciding, and one the main things I found, no two were alike, and some of the contradictions perplexed me. I wanted an automatic due to knee problems, having previously owned several over the years, and some of the negative comments concerned me regarding the AGS, so I asked for a test drive. I had expected jerky gearchanges and odd gearchanges, but found zero in my test drive, so I bought it. Now, after a week, I have decided some people do not know how to use a semi automatic. I can make it change gear, (not using the manual gearchange), with ease. For example changing gear going uphill, I just ease my foot of the pedal, and it changes up, or going down hill, simply lifting my foot of it changes down a gear. I have found it as smooth as any semi auto I have had in the past. Maybe they have reprogrammed the car since the AGS was released, but I love the car. It is the full hybrid, and like the ULTRA version tested in this review, it is not just a souped up starter motor, it has over double the battery voltage of the mild hybrid version, and can drive in "EV" mode for short distances, depending on conditions, as well as providing a meaningful boost accelerating, or simply assist cruising up to 40mph to save mpg, depending on battery charge etc. All in all, a great car for the price, and I am pleased my doubting some of the negative comments made in many of the reviews I watched.
    Finally, without the sunroof, (which the motion version does not have), as it consumes about two inches of headroom, so the motion version is fine for most average people.

    The car reviewers will never mention reliability, just on n on n on about stupid interiors. Never mind that a brand new french car will brake down in first year, I've experienced it first hand. A really weak review. I have driven this car in auto guise as a rental for a week. It’s got an incredible spec with all the bells and whistles included. Front and rear parking sensors, tick. Reversing camera, tick. Folding mirrors, tick. Blind spot warning on side mirrors, tick. It also keeps you in your lane effectively. The review does not mention any of its strong points. Also being a tall bloke with big feet, I can tell you that the foot space (at least on auto version) is really good. There is plenty of reach adjustment on the steering wheel. All the buttons on the steering wheel are in the right place so setting a speed limiter for instance is a doddle. I would still buy a Honda HRV if I was getting something in this segment, but you’re getting really good value for money with this car.

      Rebecca isn't the only reviewer to mention their height and it's an interesting and rather confusing point. It's actually about your sitting height,not your standing height as the latter is sometimes not relevant. I'm 5 ft 7 in and looking at Rebecca's review of the Renault Kadjar, which I had up until recently,I noticed her head was just above the head rest in it's low setting whereas mine was no more than two thirds the way up with the same setting. Consequently I found I had visibility problems when negotiating confined places and when negotiating roundabouts as I couldn't easily see the centre curb. It also didn't help that the Kadjar was over a foot wider than my previous mk 2 Clio! Consequently I decided that this wasn't for me and went back to a conventional hatchback.I wonder if anybody else has had the same issue?

    • @M4DRYD
      @M4DRYD 2 года назад

      Actually the 1.4 engine is the best aspect of the car. It hardly needs to rev above 2k and is smooth, quiet and powerful. No complaints over the last four years and 50k miles. And I come from a 3 litre straight 6 diesel non turbo Mercedes followed by a BMW 3 litre 6 petrol turbo. Since the car is light the engine is perfectly matched.

    Well done for not mentioning, even in the final lineup, that this is basically a Toyota Corolla Cross rebadged by Suzuki as part of a collaboration on hybrids (same idea as the Mazda 2 hybrid being a rebadged Yaris). That’s why there’s no Diesel. It’s unfortunate that they kept the Toyota Panasonic infotainment which, while adequate, feels like it was designed in the 90s. At least you can have CarPlay and Android Auto (probably wired though)
