I have learned so much from Andy Stanley, about communication, about preaching, about leadership, and am eternally grateful for him and for his ministry. That being said, I do believe his views on this subject fall short, as it fails to take into account any essential difference between men and women. His answer to what it means to “be a man” is to simply be like Christ. Ok, well said. Of course that is true. That is the bottom line standard for all of us. But this does not address the specific masculine application of this general principle. If I ask, how should I be a good parent, and you tell me “be like Jesus”, that is certainly true, but it’s specific application is absent. The way a parent is like Jesus will look different than a single man with no kids, for example. What does following Jesus look like for a MAN, specifically, as distinguished from a child, as distinguished from a woman?
I’m with you. I don’t think we ever hear enough messages about white male masculinity. Maybe when you take off you’re Klan Hood you can preach a message about Jesus. 😂

All of Scripture is God breathed and to be used for instruction and sound teaching. The Bible is the Word of the Living God! 😊

The expectations are largely cultural.
