Thanks so much for doing my request Nick. Great reaction and tribute to our Queen of Soul. Epic performance. RIP Renee ❤
@slingshot3345 Yes, it's very sad. I have been listening to Renee since the 70s.
Thanks for requesting this. I was looking at how two request this 2 days ago.
how do you send a request
@@richardwilson3059 You're welcome! I send my requests through Patreon but you can also send Nick a PayPal request once he opens it up again. There's a link here in the description.
Renee geyer Don't let me be misunderstood
Oh no I had no idea she had passed away 😓😓😓
Read where Richard Wilkins stated that when Renee was in a coma, Paul Kelly & friends went to see her just before she died. “They sang songs including ‘Heading in the right direction’ and doctors were amazed, her vitals went to perfect for a moment” Wilkins said. He said she felt the love in the room ❤
Singing "Heading in the Right Direction" to someone lying in a coma in a hospital (hence dying) is just so so wrong on so many levels......it is even more wrong that person is Renée Geyer....it is not the kinda direction you wanna head towards.
@@TheProtestantPope she had inoperable lung cancer. Heading In The Right Direction might b the most appropriate song. I don't know if she was the "let go, let God" type but perhaps it was comforting believing she was going 2 a better place & had that support from her mates. Or Maybe it was 1 of her favourite songs. Whatever the situation I think ur overly harsh saying how wrong it is on so many levels. Says who? u? That's not ur business. Just going by ur name I might assume u believe in "Gods will" let's leave it there.
RIP, RG X
We. Use to go watch her shows when she toured in nz in the mid 80,s brilliant so soulful RIP will be sadly missed
Another song she use t sing Don't let me be misunderstood
@@TheProtestantPope we all die
Rene was "the truth" the most underrated singer ever - she spent several years in LA in the 90's, we were label mates on EMI publishing and were put together to write, one of the first songs we wrote together went Gold - We became the best of friends she was like a big sister to me, we ended up living in apartments in the same building - she was family!! I had a dream yesterday about her and thought, I should check in with her, it's been too long, sadly I discovered she has gone. I am gutted. I took for granted we'd get together and record together again someday. What a great loss, for me she was another level and I've produced & written for "Singers!!!!" The Temptations, Cece Winans, Whitney, Al Jarreau, Ledisi, Frank McComb to name a few - Rene was "mind blowing" on every level and she was a sweet soul. I Love you Rene, I'll always sing your praises - you should be in the HALL OF FAME next to Aretha and Nina and Donnie Hathaway where you belong . RIP
I have loved Renee since I was a child , she was on the radio often.I used to drive my mother crazy with my need to have the radio on from morning to night. We were so lucky in the seventies, and still are to have so many great artists to listen to.we loved and knew everything that came on , music was and is my happy place.
I was with her then....I brought the boys up to her room, Paul K, Charlie Owen; Yuri, Jex, and Paul Hambrook...very confronting for them to see RG so vulnerable ...so sick . They played Difficult Woman,Foggy Highway, Midnight Train, and a couple of others.
As I left them to have that time with her, the doctor pulled me aside and said, " Look at all her numbers ...they're perfect right now"
It gave us so much comfort to think perhaps she heard it...they say that hearing is the last thing to go...it really was a magic moment.
I was leaving a message to say thank you to this RUclipsr for playing her stuff and really "getting" what a great singer she was....even some of her BV's are incredible...like in Sting's Let's get Together...her bv's really make that song.
So please keep playing her music so her legacy lives on.
I was her Manager and Tour Manager for the last 25 years...I was with her at the end holding her hand....still can't believe she's gone. ❤
Renee will be sadly missed. Have been listening to her since the 70s. I requested this before Renee passed away and have just sent Nick another request. He really appreciates her talent and is spot on with his comments. We will keep playing the music so her legacy lives on ❤
I wish so much RG had of seen Nick's reaction to her voice...I wish I could show her . She would have been so happy ...I can picture her saying to me..." no way...about me??"
I was fortunate enough to see Renée live on so many occasions in clubs around Melbourne, I lost count. I just loved her from the first time I saw her and followed her from the mid 70’s right up until her passing. I have a tear in my eye even saying that. Best soul singer male or female to ever come out of Australia. If she was born in America, she would have been up there with the greats, like Aretha. That’s how good she was. RIP Renee, you are very sadly missed.
I've loved her for nearly 50 years. She used to really belt that song, but like fine scotch it's mellowed into something special. She was always special, but, you know what I mean. RIP Renee.
She's most likely jamming with Janis Joplin right now. She was right up there with that blue eyed soul and blues. Truly iconic. RIP Renee
Another great Aussie singer gone. Rest in heavenly peace, Renee 🙏🤍🌹🎶
Thank you for this space to grieve a much loved musical genius. She travelled her own road and Australia lost sight of her sometimes but anyone who ever saw her live has an indelible impression never to be forgotten of her musical mastery .
Side note, The Basement was an awesome venue in Sydney back in the day. I saw many performers there.
Have loved her since the seventies. Rest in peace difficult woman.
Even in New Zealand where I grew up in the 70’s Renee Geyer was a powerful influence on the music scene in Wellington at that time. Her version of It only happens with Doug Williams is just supreme soul. RIP Renee 💔
When she went to the States, her record company said not to put her photo on the cover as nobody would believe she was a white woman.
yeah .. another kiwi here .. used to see her at the blu3s / jazz festival at the Mon Desir hotel (takapuna beach ) in garden bar in the old days ... she used to blow the place away .. legend ..
Thanku for your kind words of sympathy Nick. I’m really glad you are getting to hear and share the talent Australia breeds..♥️
I hit the LIKE button before I started watching, I just knew it was going to be special.
This is a master class for young singers and musicians.
Sure, you can impress everyone with your vocal gymnastics, and Renee could have done that, but she also showed how to hold an audience in the palm of your hand with a song's subtle and poignant notes.
Thank you Nick for giving these singers a world wide platform.
RIP beautiful lady.
I've seen her do this live probably 3 times with different players and she does it different every time. RIP Renee...
R.I.P Renee - I can see you 3 girls ( Renee, Olivia, Judith ) sitting around a table singing up a storm and rocking that joint lol. Look after each other girls, we all love you to bits ❤
I can't think of a more disparate group of Aussie Singers. I literally can't imagine them doing anything together...lolz. However it would certainly be interesting to hear the three of them interpret the same song in their own styles. They were all amazing in their own ways.
I'm absolutely devastated about Renee's passing😔 I've loved her since I first heard her when I was in my late teens❤️ and she wasn't much older. Such a beautiful lady and unique sound. There will be no-one else with her sultry gorgeous voice. RIP Renee, thank you for your beautiful self🤗🌏🪐🌕🙏👣⛱️🌞😔😢🌸🦋🐦🏡🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I've been fortunate enough to see her sing several times in small intimate venues. She's absolutely phenomenal live.
Another beautiful Melbourne woman we have lost with great voice from Helen Reddy to Oliver Newton-John and the loss of The Seekers Judith Durham
Renee was an amazing artist with a beautiful, powerful voice who embraced her band and a lovely personality 💞 RIP sister 🙏🏽🌺
Over the years I reckon you could listen to a dozen or more versions that Renee did and all of them would be different.... it depended on how many times she'd done it that week... or how she was feeling at the time... she was the Queen of inflections and she was very very special to us. I don't think I've ever heard anyone similar unless you know of Kerrie Biddell... Unfortunately there isn't a lot of content for Kerrie on the net... some live albums with very dubious quality... but she was also one of our extremely talented vocalists....
Loved this version. So bluesy. I bought that whole album just for this one song ❤ 🎤🥰🎶 RIP Renee 🙏
RIP Renee 😥
What a beautiful soul.
In the early days, Renee, along with Marcia Hines copped so much flak in Australia. It was quite nasty. Thank you so much for playing this, i saw her many times and it takes me back to a much better time. RIP❤❤❤
Brilliant. First time I have seen this version by Renee. She was really good in the seventies and eighties.
Renee's talent was brilliant always no matter what the decade she was performing in.
Love this version especially the second half of the song. Great guitar solo RIP Renee.🙏👏👏🇬🇧
Appreciate ya sentiments mate.
I grew up with the likes of listening to James Brown, Reneee Geyer, Marcia Hines I really loved the soul and blues and still do. Thanks for sharing
Renee was well into her 60s when this clip was recorded. God bless her. 😇
Absolute master class. Paid more attention to nuance than high notes, showed that it was more interesting to keep the notes slow and show off your agility and your vocal arrangement abilities then show off your vocal gymnastics.
Remember seeing her perform in The Basement way back in late 70s, maybe 1980. Rip Renee Geyer x
I used to go and see Renee at the basement, and sometimes ignore my date for her! 😁 RIP Renee, you were extraordinary and so brave, you helped so many female musicians find credibility and respect, we should all be grateful to you! 😪👏 This was her signature song, she was working "in a man's world"! 👍
She is amazing. If you search you will find heaps of different versions of this by Renee. As she said she has been performing this at every show for Decades and always improvises and switches it up. This is totally different to her first recording in the early 70's
Oh what a shock! RIP Renee. I saw her perform several times, just a treat every single time. You do a fabulous job Dominic and we all love how much dignity and respect you bring.
Crying here. Saw her a few times live from the mid 70s on. I loved her always. Vale to a true artist. Renee we love you
Renee was one of my favourites when I was growing up during the 80s and 90s. IMO she was so underrated. She had a classic soulful voice and it was so unique. As soon as she sings you can recognise her voice straight away! May you RIP but I am sure you are now jamming with all the greats up in heaven.
Consummate performer. Renee smashing it out since the 1970's, as a teenager. She had a reputation for being sometimes abrasive, but she had class and style to the max. And she surrounded herself with brilliant players, the chemistry bringing the best out of all. Peter "Lucky" Luscombe on drums here, you'll know him from the "Rockwiz" band. There's another massive Aussie voice he worked with, at times, the legendary Australian blues man, Chris Wilson. Also departed and sadly missed, Chris had the voice to die for, and could play the harmonica like someone possessed.
Oh, Chris Wilson was such an amazing blues performer. I saw him live a number of times at local pubs. We (my generation & Aussie) have been so privileged to see so many world class acts, just doing their stuff, up close and personal. Renee was special. RIP Renee
@@carolcarol3938 Back in the 1980/90's I'd go to a little pub in Melbourne called the Windsor Castle on Monday nights to see Dutch Tilders, for free. Yep, no cover charge. Occasionally Chris would sit in with Dutch. First time I thought "this bloke could be a superstar." Like, Dutch was incredible anyway, but there was something about Chris & that massive voice. Found out he was headlining a gig regularly at the Station Hotel on Saturday nights, with his band, Crown Of Thorns. Went once, and was hooked. Saw so many shows, and they always left the crowd calling for more. I still reckon if Chris had been born in the USA he would have been a mega-star. His "Live At The Continental" album is one of Australia's greatest works of art, full stop.
@@wilks6 Yeah; I'd see Chris at the Elsternwick and other venues. He would have smashed it in the States. All the names that keep popping up ...Dutch Tilders😃. I went to Frankston High School and they had a "dance" on at the school hall .."the Big Fish". They had some amazing acts on that were in their very early days eg: AC/DC. I'm so glad I grew up in the music generation that I did. I feel sad for the mainstream music of today.
I loved Renee in the lemon 🍋 pants suit when she was only 17 years old .🌄
Not sure if anyone mentioned but when Renee’s version of It’s a Man’s World was released in the USA in the 1970s it was played mainly on R&B stations. It was one of those cases when she was mistaken as Black based on her performances. She did move to the States but other than doing back vocals, including backing Toni Childs and Chaka Khan, she didn’t break through. She moved back to Australia where she remained until her death.
It takes a great artist to pull off such a unique interpretation of a classic song. First time hearing Renee and sad to learn she recently passed. I will have to listen to more. Crazy listening to Nick's comments because they could easily have been said about Angelina Jordan who has already re-invented many classic tunes and even was able to copyright her versions of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "I Have Nothing". Angelina will take the world by storm when Republic Records is given the green light by her family to promote her.
An album to begin with would be "Difficult Woman". It's a minimalist album, produced by Paul Kelly, another legend. It's so good I had my first two copies 'mislaid. They disappeared.
2 of my friends toured with her as her engine room.
She could be difficult.
Definitely an individual.
She backed some huge names early in her career, in LA.
Fabulous talent.
The closest I heard Angelina reinventor song was what she did with Bohemian Rhapsody. Everything else she’s done yeah is there closely resembles the original or she’s doing a cover of a cover, I’ll cover that not everyone knows but then you look up and you see that it was done before. That’s not to diminish her talent, she’s very talented. But this lady here isn’t a class of her own in terms of completely reinventing a song.
@@Rosannasfriend Thanks for your reply and I am glad that I now know of Renee. Please check out Angelina's version of Suspicious Minds and California Dreaming. For Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, her mother told her, the day before the recording session, she couldn't sing the lyrics so Angelina wrote new lyrics and needed just two takes to make the final video. She was 10 years old.
@@Rosannasfriend OOOppps I forgot to add Billie Jean. The songs where she doesn't change the original a lot, the little nuance, inflections, flavors she adds are just genius.
@@Rosannasfriend Had to send one more reply because a new video came out today, explaining why some call Angelina the girl with 1000 voices. ruclips.net/video/QB9jMBGHinU/видео.html
So sad. Brilliant voice, gutsy woman. Vale Renee 🖤
My favorite channel! and this is why.
Great reaction, great tribute... much appreciated! ❤
That was epic 🙌💜
Vale Renee. You are and were much loved xxxx
Was lucky enough to see her once she had the whole crowd totally mesmerised.
Wish I could've seen her many more times
RIP beautiful lady
Rip Renee thank you for sharing her to many others
Judith Durham, Olivia Newton-John and Renee Geyer all passed in the last six months.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
Yeah, 3 great singers. So sad.
BECAUSE Of the mRna Gene therapy called Physer ! Pre condition and then the JABS did the rest

You need to watch this whole special, Renee and the band are on 🔥
So Dope.
I've only just now found out we have lost another great and I'm shattered, RIP Renee the world is poorer without you.
I loved Renee growing up in Australia as a teenager. She had many hits in Australia and was revered as a wonderful artist!! Had the pleasure of seeing her in a little trendy bar in Canberra over 15 years ago. What an awesome singer, entertainer, and funny as hell!!
I was going to see her sing at a jazz venue here in Melbourne and this news floored me at the time. 😇😇😇 God bless Renee. PS this was her in her last few years.
Review one of her 1970s performances.
Brilliant.
I grew up listening to Renee Geyer. My older siblings were fans. Many years ago I bought tickets for my 4 sisters and I to go see her live. It was awesome.
Renee rocks ..iv admired her and her excellent power house vocals as far back as I can remember..
Truly phenomenal performance, from Renee, the band and the backing singers. Just a wonderful display of Australian and New Zealand talent tight there. Gor me emotional....knowing Renee is gone. RIP.
renee was our very own soul queen ... she wont be replaced she and there will never be another like her ... she was her own person and very much a forward passionate person and not afraid to speak on issues she felt needed it
Thank you. Classic.

Pronounced Renee Gayer.
Thanks for doing this.❤
I've seen her so many times live, brilliant!!!!
A great talent gone too soon. RIP.
RIP Renee Geyer, you were a champ
Renee was one of a kind. Nobody else like her. Loved her in the 70s
Such an amazing soulful voice
I remember back in 82/83 my older brother (Dean) asked me for opinion on which I preferred...and he played me Shakey ground by 'Phoebe snow'
I knew it and loved it...big ups to my idol 'Phoebe' RIP
Then he played Renee Geyer doing the same song live and...BOOM!
I'm sorry Phoebe but she got this one.
Both RIP
Wow magnificent 💕💕RIP Renee
We in Australia have been blessed with some of the world's best musos while the rest of the world ignored how good Australian music really was so your loss has been Australia's privilege to listen to some of the greatest music in the world
Have seen some amazing acts at the Basement
when was about 20 (live auck nz ) Renee use to come over yearly ... play at the blues festival at the old Mon Desir Hotel on takapuna beach on aucks north shore , was flatting up road ... used to love seeing Renee ... a legend here ...RIP ...
My favourite song. Cake, the candle. Renee has been in my life forever.
You did good Nick well done 👍
I was a lucky lucky girl to see that performance at the basement. Shawn Calvin also played that night. No air conditioning, everyone was creating their own rain. When Renee came on stage… everything was quiet. A pin could have dropped . To say captivating would be an understatement.
Stairs & Whiispers by Renee
I remember seeing Renee sing this at Sunbury it was amazing. Loved her voice. RIP Renee
the first time a proper voice stopped me in my tracks was renee in a beach front pub in nz in 1991 ...she sang this and I was that gobsmacked it was alk this big tuff guy could do not to cry!!!.years later I saw beth hart live here in new zealand a handful of years ago doing this song and fair to say I burst...rip renee
Thank you sir .
Such a shame to lose such a strong willed and dedicated performer, with all the talent in the world there was no one like Renee, have fun singing with the heavenly band, R.I.P.🎶❤🎵
Sting loved Renee Geyer, used her vocals on his big hit 'If you love somebody set them free' ❤️
Vale Renee Geyer.
One of my favorite singers toooo. Your not bad either😊😊❤
I love watching you, thankyou x
RIP, Renee
Listen to the rest off her music she’s is sooooo amazing. 😢
Thank you 🙏
Saw Renee do the best ever version of Stares and Whispers at the Basement. Great memories
There’s a great song she sang called “Hard Head”… I haven’t heard it in years…what a song!
RIP Renee Geyer!!!!
Greetings from Oz and well done. On pronunciation... mate, think of two drag queens in a bar and one turns to the other and says, "I'm gayer than you." That's how you say her name. RIP for a epic woman and staunch performer. Edit: Enjoyed your reactions. Cheers.
Just insane!!! RIP Renee
Sultry voice❤
Renee, from my childhood you were a mysterious sound background. That I Liked. RIP lovely voice
Goosebumps
That was a journey right there!
