"We can't expect others to see our value if we don't recognize it in our own hearts."
Words cannot describe how badly needed this was at this time. Thank you.
We see the world as we are, and the world sees us from the value we attach to ourselves.
Absolutely! The outer world "s view and perception of us is exactly how we view and perceive our own selves!!
That's not what the zen master said at all. He said your value is based on where you are appreciated. If people don't appreciate you, then find better people. In another word, haters gonna hate. 😄
@@aihope8350 While this has been learned from experience (go find those who will value you), it has also been learned from experience that how you estimate yourself can affect how others may estimate you. That is, under confidence or naïveté may invite those who wish to take advantage of that, while overconfidence can invite those who wish to outdo you or who may believe you blindly.
Huh… While it now seems clear that both extremes fall within the same recommendation to find those who value you (since the scenarios above mentioned may occur less easily).
Edit:
Also clarifying for one to possess enough confidence of their worth to continue to move forward in life (not too little that it risks inviting those who may take unfair advantage, and not too much that it could invite people highlighting the higher stakes that could arise in over promising).
Having worth is by being in that position or platform. Or else, u are worthless.
To anybody who's reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind. May clarity replace confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life. I hope anything that bothers you and makes you feel depressed will go away and you will feel comfortable with this video. Don't worry, tomorrow is a new day. Start over. It's not too late yet.

Did the stone know the value of it? Did the stone go to market or antique shop by it self? It seems like the value depends on the person who discovers the stone. It seems like our parents, mentor or even a recruiter knows the value of a person. So they can ensure a person gets maximum value. I may be wrong completely, but this is what I understood.
Recruiter won't

@@tparker2095 thanks but there really is nothing to be proud of. I was just fighting for comfort as we all do and I was lucky to find a nice place.
My point here is that flipping burgers is hard, but people don't appreciate. You get judge before you had a chance to prove your self.
@@LuisVasDeCamoes "You get judged before you have a chance to prove yourself" Well said!
The same can be true the other way around, when a wealthier person is judged as having more talent than they actually do and someone from a lower class that has the talent they lack gets dismissed.
We shouldn't judge worth based upon appearances or "placement"
@@LuisVasDeCamoes Love that you say this! Speaks of a wider sense of worth and insight imho.
It's strange, when you have been raised to greet the janitor's helper with the same respect as the landlord, to constantly find so many others so eager to disrespect and devalue. How much better would life be if kindness and respect weren't so often treated like hostages.
"Sometimes we get stuck in places that do not truly value our potential, it important to step back and ask ourselves if we are in the right place surrounded by right people." This line, it can't be more real
It's important for us to find the rhythm of our lives, when we're younger our parents decide it for us but as we gradually up this burdens us to know our correct place and to do something that won't tire us out. We aimlessly hope for delicacies without looking at the necessities, I hope today we all can bring our true self forward and not succumb in the corner due to fear. Thanks for this beautiful piece of advice on life❤️
Soo, two lessons:
1.: Don't trust Zen Masters, they'll change the deal.
2.: Your value depends completely on others.
Got it....
Always remember, that your worth is intrinsic and priceless. You are worthy, valued and have an impact on the world just by living.
Like Hitler? He definitely had an impact on the world, but I wouldn't say he was a worthy individual by any metric. Sweeping generalizations that change nothing in the world, but fill the head of a troubled mind with non-sense. Words are cheap. Want people to feel their worth, try providing implicitly food, shelter, and healthcare. Your society doesn't reflect that, you're just being told to lie to yourself.
I'm so tired I read this as "you are worth, valued and have an impact on the world just by lying" 😂
This is not zen at all, but only everyday US-American philosophy. Zen is about the acceptance of the here and now reality and to appreciate the connectedness of us and everything and everybody else. This voice talks about becoming someone else, following the "pursuit of happiness", which is archi-American (s. Max Weber).
I completely agree with you.
Yes I wanted to say the same. This is absolutely no zen at all.
So many are discussing self worth. Zen would not be discussing self worth because there is no self to worth. There is no self to loathe. That is the freedom of Zen. Not anchoring your value to the whims of other people.
Is this video talking about worth or potential worth? I’m a bit confused. It sounds squishy and heart warming but there’s something not sitting right 🤔
"Listen to your heart and you will grow in no time just like that crypto investment I did last week; you'll see " - zen master
I love how everyone has a slightly different take on the lesson of this video. My take was that our environment, our choices and actions shape our self worth. Believe in yourself and take action.

Wouldn't a better lesson be that value is arbitrary and that the only thing that matters is how valuable something is to you, including yourself? I think that monk missed the mark.
I wondered, do you want to be seen as valueable for who you are and what you can do, or as a material for someone to make into the image they want, or be a curiosity sitting on a rich persons shelf? Yeah, I think this did miss the Mark a bit.
"Different platforms and positions bring different values to your life."
That's powerful!
Pretty sure if this was a true "Zen Master" there wouldn´t be money, positions, and potentials and "the right people"...
Very western to compare worth along with price. Sounds like "when you're a postman, you're worth (...)" "if you are a doctor, you're worth (...) "if you are a politician, you're worth (...)"
"Your worth depends on where you stand."
I doubt that. I believe our worth is always there, without any postion.
Thar doesn't seem like a Zen lesson. I've never found Zen to be a philosophy of self empowerment, or understanding self worth based on arbitrary systems of value. I mean this is cool and I'm down, but Zen? Perhaps just not Zen philosophy I know
1st , You value yourself.
Then, Be at the right place with the right people who will see your worth.

A Master allowed his student to speak once a year but at a random time. Once, during monsoon, the student said, "It is wet." During winter in the mountains he said, "It is cold." In the summer while working in the fields he said, "The plants are dry." And the Master drew near and said, "Complain, complain, complain."
Thank you so much for the story.. Its a know story but every time can have different interpretations..
Life DOESN'T have value.. Your create the value of our life, according our Consciousness and perception..
The environment is so important, but the way, how you perceive it, it's more important..
Maybe the people and the circumstances are not of your value, but Life always gives you whatever you need to grow..
It's up to us to accept and transent our lives..

Please tell me this is not a real Zen story. One's worth cannot be measured in dollars.
Is just like a can of coke is priced differently at different places.
Totally agreed. Yet people still buy it you know...

While this video can be helpful for some, it isn´t Zen at all. A Zen master would probably have used the story of the stone marketing, to show how value is really an illusion created by us and not inherent in anything really. He would have also pointed out that the wish for having value is a cause of suffering for the monk, and maybe explained that nothing else in the world seeks for value but people and only people suffer from this struggle. The Zen master would probably have pointed out that to become closer to enlightenment the monk would have to let go of the idea of value of his "self" as the "self" is an illusion in itself.
Which I would argue can be a helpful lesson as well. 😉
Peace and love

It may sound corny, but it is very true.
You deserve better, don't spend time with people that don't treat you well.
This story doesn’t feel very « zen » to me. Sounds like some western bullshit. I was expecting wise words and what I heard sounded like a very dull story about being or not being somewhere we deserve to be. The part about being or not with people that allow us to shine feels weird like you’re supposed to chose people around you based on how they can be helpful to you. That’s some high level individualist shit. This whole scale of different worths also feels weird.
Allow yourself to shine. Really liked that part

yes, this is true. i love myself so much but dont have alot of money or time to show it within the past 5-9 years. I've always believed in myself and I've always recognised my value in my heart! Yes, I've always been!
A true zen monk would explain that your ego doesn't really exist, it is only a construct, and navigating through that is being deluded with every thought.

2:33 - A Buddhist monk, would not use words like “platforms” and “positions” but he would use words like “heart” and “would”.
Also US Dollars won’t be a measure of intrinsic values. For a Buddhist monk it would be the significance of the improvement triggered in others and the diffusion od knowledge and wisdom.
This story has been adapted so that a McKinsey’s, Goldman Sach’s or similarly empty souls type of “profiles” would understand it.

Main problem with these videos, it gives everyone the idea, that either they are geniuses in disguise, and we're just too stupid to see it. Or they're the most righteous person and we're just lost people.
Then the Master said: Take a Bag and put all stones you can find. We´re getting rich, baby!
Wonderful story on Self-Worth. You determine your self worth by how much value you put on your talents and skills. It’s your perception of your own value. You’re more valuable than you might think.
well said and thank you for saying it 🖖🖖
What a stupid story... The idea that you magically have more value depending on where you are standing, without making any effort yourself... just being like a worthless stone. I can see the appeal to lazy people, that just changing your location makes a difference, but it really doesn't, not without an effort on your part to create value. Also... I would guess that this is absolutely not a true Zen parable.
What does it mean? We exist to see the stone. To feel it's texture. To hear it fall. Perhaps you could taste and smell it if you wanted. Then you could think about the rock. What is experience, what is the nature of nature? Value doesn't have to equate to virtue, does it? 💛
Where can I find the origin of this story? Did you just make it up to get more clicks? It has zero credibility for anyone remotely familiar with Zen philosopy.
We don’t need to know everything especially in this day and age. We just need to know what works for us.❤
Too bad, the young monk should've sold it for $200,000 and gotten another stone from the mountain to show it to the master monk and he would have still been able to get the life lesson from the master, with additional $200,000 in his pocket...
It's a fiction story, no one will give you 20$ for a rock unless is a poor kid and you want to donate
Con man 😏... He could have done this, but then he wouldn't be very spiritual. He'd be wordly and what the world values has little significance

With the quality of the audio and overall presentation, I was shocked to see you have less than 1 million subs. You're going to grow quickly, very well done.
ROFL its completely AI generated drivel.
This story is almost the complete opposite of how zen sees the world. This is a very western, very capitalist story about maximizing value through dedication. Zen has nothing to do with that. The idea that we are worth a lot or a little or that we can be undervalued is so wrong headed. A zen monk would tell you to forget all that and be at ease. Just calm down and be quiet. We are not meant to shine, or have unique gifts or fulfill our potential. We are not meant to do anything other than observe our own existence and find inner peace.
Can't explain in words how much of comfort these words gave me. Thank you very much.🙏🏻
But when you put your value into zero, you are free, you have nothing to defend or prove to anyone, you don't need to have the compulsion to explain what you did which is the root of all your troubles.
Daaaaamn. Thank you for this. Im crying rn. Praying real hard for my life and my career. I feel so lost but this video gave me comfort. Thank youuu
If you stary too long in place where they cannot see your worth, you are becoming worthless. Don´t waste time.
Having SELF-worth obviates the need for others to "recognize" it in you. If your sense of worth comes from your market value--whatever the amount ascribed to it ($2 or $200,000)--your sense of yourself is dependent upon external circumstances, including the views of others both of which will inevitably change. That impending change easily evokes anxiety. Striving to get others to value you (before or after you recognize yourself) is what most people do now and is exactly the source of people's feeling of contingent worth. If you want to be secure in your sense of worth, you must understand it in entirely different terms. This "Zen" story is anything but.
Zen Buddhism is famous for its position of "no-self". To Mahayana Buddhists the concept of self is just another 'empty' constructed concept, but one that has particular power for the untrained mind. One's attachment, according to Buddhists, to one's sense of self is the ultimate source of suffering--not a sense of worth. The advice given here does not address a Buddhist analysis in any recognizable way that I can see, whatever its merits may be to you. The statement "Your life's value is like this stone, if you place it..." is very much at odds with Buddhist views on self.
Well said, my friend. The only remotely Buddhist in this story is the description on how causes and conditions determine and define events. What’s definitely not Buddhist thought is the talk about ‘self-worth’, as you say. Actually, the tendency to build a psychological platform based on a sense of self is exactly what Buddhist practice aims at dissolving. Why? Because, according to the Buddha, the belief in a self is a hollow belief system based on false speculations. Because of holding on to a belief based on false premises we creat suffering for ourselves and others. Our beliefs in an independently existing self are not based in reality but based on a fantasy and can therefor only bring grief and frustration when it collides with reality. But I know you already know this by having read your comment. I’m just glad that someone else also had the intelligence and knowledge to see through this fraudulent statement. It cannot had come from a genuine zen source. Impossible.

Thanks! We see things similarly.
My main concern is that others without the good fortune to have encountered and engaged deeply with Buddhism might actually take this video as reflective of Zen.
I hope its creator will recognize the harm it is doing and remove it themselves.
@@ohreally4065 Yes, I see what you mean. Misrepresentation of the words of the Buddha and in this case Zen, cannot bring any benefit. That’s for sure. On the other hand, coming to the defense of Buddha dharma is not necessary either. Truth will always be the truth, no matter how much it is neglect or disregarded. Truth will always stand up for itself. But I appreciate your effort to present the dharma to others in a way that is not in contradiction with its original intent. You have sympathy for that.
I like to give an example, if I may; right now people around the world are upset because religious books are being burnt to manifest political points. If the same thing happened to Buddhist texts we shouldn’t be upset or worried. Why? In this world it is a normal situation that we humans do not see the same truth in all things. If someone is going so far as to burn religious books is no big deal. The karma is on them for having caused many to be upset. Also, those that are upset should consider that no religious book can be the law that everyone must follow. Religious teachings doesn’t need to be defended. If they do, they contain weaknesses that lack the truth. No religion needs to be defended if it is believed to hold the truth. In the eyes of the non-believer religious defensiveness is a sure sign of disbelief and doubt.
I totaly disagree, our value doesn't depend on the others, we are priceless, whatever we do and that's why we don't kill others nor destroy them in their minds.
Ooh guys. Making me cry with a Zen story. I have come a long way and wonder my worth. I know it is a journey. ❤
Cute story but an actual zen monk would have never said anything like it.
This is so timely for me. I really see that I am not at the right place but it is a deep internal struggle to realize that some people I love won't follow me on my journey. I spent the last years procrastinating and giving advices to people around me to get them on board but to no avail. It is a painful realization but people keep going their own way and I should follow mine. It's time to take the leap and endeavour to put myself where I will be valued. Thank you for this video.
The best you can do is help yourself, only then think about helping others.
Pe drumul eliberării mergem singuri !
It's not zen story, it's a story written in Upanishads (hindu scriptures).
This has said no words of zen.
The master is a liar who says he will give the answer many times before yet the monk still asks the same question. Why should he believe a liar in the end?
Ohhh, yes, the good old American dollars from the zen temples.
Beautiful story! I am also a RUclips content creator. Questions of my value in life come up for me a lot. Thank you for this poignant reminder. Meditate daily 🙏🧘♀️
I swear to my death no monk ever referred to anyone’s life as a platform metaphorically or literally fml
The true worth is the worth of the Law. ❤
The problem is in real life we can't just go to different places to check our value. For example, a person can't just go to a hospital and see if they are valuable as a doctor and then go to a bank and see if they are valuable as an accountant and then go to the army and see if they are valuable as a soldier. Our system forces us to choose a single path and it takes all of our time and resources, we can't check where we are valued most.
i get what you are saying but i have found this is not the case. you can change paths, it just takes some courage to take the leap, i did and it was very worthwhile
I know a lady who was a nurse then became a programmer for the UN, I know a lady who was a physics person then became a data scientist, and another lady that used to take care of people at old folk homes then ended up creating custom baby dolls that sell for thousands of dollars, and that is how she makess a living to support her family, idk. Paths change sometimes by choice, sometimes not. Some people can figure out how to sell themselves and their work, but it's not easy. I haven't figured out their success. :/
Is this AI story or voice? cause most AI seem to do the same thing in a new way, but I guess some humans do that as well
It’s so true. I’m in a profession where different offices/businesses get different types of clients and issues to solve, hence different salaries payable to employees like me. Yet, we’ve all spent the same amount of hours, apply the same skills (skills will become different once you develop your years of expertises) to start with, and same resources to rely on. Initially I was okay with the low pay, then when my colleagues started to be unfriendly and disrespectful, I knew this office, this “platform,” didn’t appreciate me, let alone recognizing my worth. So my choice now is to leave the vegetable market and go to a museum, 💪 May we all find the right platforms for ourselves where we will be appreciated, respected, and valued. 🙏
Seeking a workplace where you are appreciated, respected, and valued is a wise decision! Thanks for stopping by!
False. Our value is inherently priceless because the One who created us says so. If you create a work of art that you love and will never sell, but someone tries to buy it from you, wouldn't you be shocked at how little they offered? Its priceless to you. You'd never sell it because there's no price high enough. Even if my analogy falls short in your eyes, I want you to know that God sees your worth as priceless. So much so, that He came to the world He creates, as a human, and died a torturous death to get you back and show you your worth. This story is bogus. I have to go to certain places to be labled a certain value? Nope. I'm loved and valued because the One who made me says I'm loved and valued. And YOU are too~♡

I took my Stone to the Antique Shop and they told me to: "GET OUTTA HERE"! So i took it to the Museum and was ARRESTED. After i bailed out i took it to the Marketplace and was nearly STONED to death by an obnoxious Lady. Life's Lesson? NEVER watch You Tube for LIFE advice !!!
The real take away is, human minds cannot put a value on anyones lives. We put a value based on use. That cannot be the case. Humans didnt create humans. So we do not have the right to value something that we disnt create. It like putting a value on river, or earth or the clouds. Or in this case, a rock. The value estimated by many people were are different and inaccurate. It was just percieved value. Not actual value. We never know what the presence of that rock may have been of importance. Humans are still finding phenomenons like butterfly effects and what not. We need to know that we are created by God, the greatest creator. So we are priceless.
Powerfully spoken truth
We place price tags on everything, but we created nothing...
Only God knows the value of all things and he has given FREELY
We are made in his image
We have PRICELESS SOULS
You can't put a price on eternity!
Most Beautiful Life Lesson "It's only us creators of our own destiny,we become what we consume from our surroundings"
🤣🤣 I understand optimistic approach but sometimes you gotta look beyond for truth to understand you don't have power to change your destiny. The concept of choice and the way it perceived is flawed. Question and observe you'll know the answer
@@yashaswikulshreshtha1588 hey hie,
So you don't believe that you can happy life if you have strong desire to have one for yourself & your's family.Hey yashaswi I really believe that if you have positive approach & pure heart you're bound to have beautiful destiny, that doesn't mean I think there wouldn't be any drawdowns 😊😊
that story is from Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Thank you for that information. I found a much better version of this story called „Mardana and the stone“ or "Guru Nanak and Salas Rai the jeweler“. The version told in this video is kind of weird.
Great lesson there. If you're trying to get something done and someone keeps pestering you with abstract questions set them a random job that'll get them out of your hair for three days.
Here's my favourite "Zen parable" from Terry Pratchett:
“If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
where can i find this antique's shop? i have couple of stones to sell
This is actually a very motivational and life changing lessons❤
So you're a saying I should get into the stone selling business...
