Regarding stainless steel appliances (even black stainless) being considered "neutral," I feel compelled to point out that avocado was once considered neutral, as well.

Black being neutral is one of the biggest myths out there perpetuated mostly by Y- and Z-genners who have absolutely no idea. Black is NEVER neutral, it clashes with most other colors, in classic menswear and interior design alike.
Also, stainless steel is a pain to clean. Every. Single. Fingerprint. Never ever again.
Black is neutral because it doesn't have a saturated hue, similar to white and gray. Saying a color is a neutral doesn't mean a color looks good in every palette and never clashes.

I just bought a 21-year old house that has granite counters with flecks of copper in it. After playing around with some options, we decided to keep it. We painted the cabinets cream and added a few copper accents and it looks fantastic. It is not the trendiest look, but it fits with our look, which leans toward the celebration of natural materials and warm looks.
I want to keep our dark blue granite, too, for similar reasons. I was leaning heavily toward renovating our kitchen when we bought our house, but it's actually extremely functional. The cabinets (and the fridge!) are from 1990, but the look is fairly timeless traditional and makes me nostalgic, which I enjoy. The granite was part of a 2012 update but is relatively unique in color. Instead of spending money and wasting materials, I've embraced what brings me joy about the space.

You can over lay porcelain slabs right on top of dated granite. I’m going to do this with my brown speckled granite. I find it’s just to busy for me eyes.
Oh yes the dedicated office space is much needed! I visited few older/middle aged couples. They have always had decicated office spaces. They said they tried to reduce mobile use, by maintaining a office/reading space. You go to that room to do your research, work, read news etc. helped them a lot to stop doom scrolling on phones. It was very interesting to hear their approach and how they trained their children also to do it.
My dad always had an office/library, known back then as a den. My mom had office space too, although she didn't always have a separate room.
@LauraJdogmom My dad, too - his den. He even splurged on a big desk for the space, back in the late 70s. Which I now own & moved into my LR as a decor piece. Because, unfortunately, my use for it now is so much less than his was back then. But I keep it anyway, for sentimental reasons & to store papers.
@@LauraJdogmom A lot of women used to have a sewing room/guest room/writing desk (remember letters?), oh joy a kid went off to college and now we have a spare room!, so they had a spot they could keep tidy and efficient.
My dear Dad always had a “study.” It was his spot, his private space.
Houses used to have studies or dens or libraries. I am looking for a home and I want a room to use as a study. I also want a dining room.
I'm just happy to see more COLOR being trendy! I'm so over all the beige/neutral everywhere, it just feels so lifeless, give me all the zany colors
i HATE beige. really a lot. i get the whole neutrals thing but for gods sake, a lot of colors are technically neutrals. like grey or actual colors that are toned down. beige is lifeless, beige is death, beige is the boring-EST!

I’m a doctor and I can’t emphasize enough the importance of having a dedicated space for a home office. The number of patients that I had these past three years complaining about how the line between work-life and home-life blurred and how bad it made them feel was really outstanding. My advice was always to make a dedicated room or even just a corner to work, set schedules and stick to them, with walks or physical activities to separate the part of the day dedicated to work vs the part of the day dedicated to the rest of your life
So glad to hear this from a health professional. I have a small house I share with my husband. We are both retired. I have tried to have a little painting studio at my dining table and my bedroom. Cringe. My husband is now literally in the basement remodeling it into a multi purpose room which will include an art studio for me. I think you need a dedicated space for work (and hobbies are work, too, in a sense) that you can close a door and leave then go back to without it in your face or without any privacy.
We bought our house because the room I'd be using as an office overlooks a lake. I am a remote worker, it definitely makes a difference! I can sit outside or walk down to the lake and work there. It's... amazing. (Or I can go for a quick swim instead of a coffee break!)
We just moved across from a lagoon , I will finally have a dedicated corner to work in finally! Also, we can see & walk around the lagoon every night ! We both work from home.. Love this ❤
That might be necessary for specific types of people, but definitely not for all people! As a pedagogue with children with lots of behavioral and other problems in my own house 24/7, I can testify, that it's important to allow for 'me'-time. I went out shopping for hours on end, taking my time, relaxing. I'd go to the library, my husband and I would take nights off to go to a restaurant and then a movie. But when those times were scheduled and we HAD to go spend the night elsewhere, boy, were we frustrated instead of happy. Organic and in the flow was all we needed. We knew how to be flexible, also towards each other.
Yes, I agree + the best thing is being able to do messy work & finish it another day! ( This goes for sewing too..if you fold up everything & put it away, you can't remember where you left off!)
I had to laugh when you talked about Biophilic Design being a trend. Where I live in Thailand, it's a way of life!! I can't tell you how many structures I've seen literally built around a tree (buildings, steel fences, etc.). Man and nature coexist here in a way that isn't new at all. Wish I could post a picture to illustrate! Keep up the good work Nick. Love your channel.

I would love to have a butler's pantry where ALL of my appliances would reside; easy to use; no moving back and forth and out of sight.
Hidden doors and stairways will never get old. They’ve been in homes all throughout history. From wall-walks to priest holes, to servants doors, to secret passages in castles to get out, they’ve always been a thing and I’m excited to see them being done in a modern way.

Biophilic design seems like an updated version of the philosophy behind the Arts & Crafts movement. As a fan of William Morris I am kinda thrilled about it.

SHEARling. They shear the fleece off the sheep. Like cutting your hair. The sheep's wool grows together in a matt. Then it is cut off in one continuous piece. The sheep is not killed. Usually they are sheared in spring and grow a new fleece by winter.

Exsheep Australian farmer here. Note the difference between making something from a sheep skin (aka dead sheep) v from a sheep fleece( shorn happy cool sheep in hot Australia). Most upholstery would be skin I am afraid,
Felted sheep ‘skins’. When the whole fleece is shorn from the sheep in one piece, then the cut side is felted and no harm comes to the sheep. 💚

When I lived in a small, sheep-raising village in France the sheep had to be sheared every spring to avoid overheating in the summer. It was actually life-saving for the animals.
@@marthawolfsen5809 Sheep are always shorn every year. All over the world, everybody shears their sheep every year, usually in spring, and they have done for centuries. There is nothing unique about a small village in France doing this. It's like saying I used to have a cat and I had to feed it every day . . . well, yes.
As someone who sells appliances, I will always try to steer you away from black stainless. It's true that the majority aren't black stainless throughout and manufacturers don't make touch up kits. Even if you think you'd be careful and not scratch it, you'd be surprised how often you bump things with your rings or belt buckle, dogs like to jump up with their nails, children do as they please with whatever objects they please. If you're considering black stainless, just consider your surroundings and how much you can minimize the chance of scratching so you don't end up unhappy later

Wish I would have known this before buying my appliances… still have the plastic covering my refrigerator because you can’t tell it’s there… trying to get all the new life I can with them.
Is it all an anodized finish to achieve that color? Similar to some of the current and previous aluminum Macbooks and iPhones? If so, that totally makes sense that the finish doesn't last long if you want it to stay pristine. That said, my first smartphone, the black/slate grey iPhone 5, was almost inevitably scratched through in certain places in a few months. The patina sort of worked with it, and I didn't mind the minor scratches/wear all that much for the 4 years I had it. Certain designs and having a relaxed attitude about wear and tear can make it worth it. I always think it's wise to opt for finishes in anything (tech, interior design, etc.) that look good with some patina. I'm still undecided if the black stainless trend fits that idea though.

I have had a dedicated office space all my adult life. I love having a place where business, study, and personal business like scanning to digitize files, etc. It keeps all that admin off my kitchen table, couch, and bed. It is better for my body and my posture to sit at a desk to work at my laptop.
You remind me of what one of my favorite authors used to say about decor. If my home looks just like your home, one of us has a problem. I pick up on the trends that are me and pass on the ones who aren't.
I think the thing with home offices is that the pandemic showed that when we weren’t all clogging up the roads for hours commuting every workday, driving for the few activities you had to do outside the house was pretty pleasant (less pleasant- masks, sterilizing everything, etc.) and things were so much less polluted- all of those pretty, clear skies. Why do we all need to commute and spew pollution everywhere, when a large portion of people worked just as well from home, especially when we’re trying to reduce carbon emissions?

I had to contact the SSA and the state early on during the pandemic because some Russian or Nigerian crime ring tried to claim unemployment in my name. I was able to contact both, though both required long hold times-- the state because so many people were affected by the same thing, the SSA because it's a busy agency.
The IRS is underfunded and has been for years, which is why money was provided to them to hire more staff, but... heavens no, we couldn't do that! It's all to harass taxpayers. If you work for an underfunded government agency, there's not enough staff to go around, and it's going to be slow.
I would suggest that this doesn't mean that people can't effectively work at home, but, rather, that budget cuts mean you might pay less in salaries but also make everything slower and less efficient.
So much of our economy and social fabric is based around commuting. Public schools start so early in the morning so that busses can be winding up their routes when rush hours hit. The amount of commercial real estate in large cities that relies on bodies in buildings working, shopping on lunch breaks, picking up dry cleaning, etc. Businesses are located on certain sides of the street based on the direction of traffic in the mornings vs. afternoons. Public transportation planning prioritizes work commute routes and timing, not entertainment or leisure (look at the number of light rail, tram and metro systems that shut down at midnight... they could be open a couple hours longer to accommodate nightlife but that's not what they care about.)
We DON'T need as many people to commute... but the status quo requires it, so it's back to the office. 😕
@@knkytht Yeah, I'm aware. We're required to be here three days a week currently or lose our offices. I don't have space in my house for the books I store in my office, also, some of the things in my office are confidential materials that I can't take home. So, three days a week it is. But they try to sell it to us as rebuilding community, etc., etc., and all of these hallway conversations sparking creativity or whatever. We don't have hallway conversations about work, and if they want community, they need to reopen all of the cafeterias, because all of the community in the buildings was based on the cafeterias. But they say opening them is not economically feasible... Feel v. cynical about the whole thing.
I work in a biophilic building. It's in the process of being condemned now unfortunately. Built in 1967 and retains almost all of its original features. The central atrium is amazing with a shuttered glass and steel slatted roof. I showed maintenance how to operate it to maintain heat in winter and cold in summer. The entire department showed up to see it in action. It's a wonderful trend from the sixties, shame it wl be gone soon.

Hmm, sounds like if maintenance didn't understand how the building worked, its fate of being condemned might have been inevitable. So sad. Buildings with historical architectural value like that really need to have succession plans so that they will continue to be cared for by all future users and tenants.
@@Kira_MartelMaybe its been condemned for other reasons? Since it was built in the 60s, the place could also be very well chalk full of asbestos and such.
@@salemcrow5078 That's true, but there are plenty of buildings with asbestos that remain standing. The thing with asbestos is that small particles become aerosolized and inhaled, so it's a bigger issue when the material is facing disturbance. Most recommendations I've seen are to leave it in place and not disturb it in any way that could create particles like sanding or cutting. There are a lot of homes and other buildings with asbestos ceiling tiles for example, and most of the time, especially if they're painted, they just tell you to leave them be. It becomes a problem when you want to makes structural changes that involve altering or removing the asbestos material.
Oh, no! See if you can save and bring home some of the materials or plants!

I have color in my house too. I have two walls in the dinning room that are brown to accent the cream colored walls. The bathrooms and bedrooms all have colored walls. That’s how I identify them too, the gold room, blue room, etc.
Agreed, but with the money we're saving with commuting costs and office attire, the employers are saving so much more, on utilities, office space costs, etc. I think that at least some of the savings, should be paid to the employee.
When someone asked you "Guess where the basement is?" you could have answered "Downstairs?"
It’s funny how trends are cyclical. I bought my first house in 1991. When I remodelled the kitchen I installed an appliance garage. Then I redecorated all the public rooms using colour drenching. I used a relaxing coffee shade in different depths for the walls, ceiling and moulding. I chose a custom made sofa in hunter green damask and armchairs in a complementary tartan. I had the input of a great interior designer for both projects. She suggested a beige fabric for the sofa but I was having none of it because I love green and wanted to bring the outside in. So watching this video is like déjà vu all over again!
Hunter green. We can blame that one on Ralph Lauren circa 1986. I remember it wasn't any of the shades of green used in American hunting, which would be camo colors. No. Despite being the definitive American brand, Ralph Lauren chose English hunting. lol I have to laugh at the marketing crap so many of us have fallen for over the decades.
Then later, in 1987-88 was the resurgence of paisley. lol I could go on and on... It's all just recycled.
@@le_th_ it’s nothing to do with Ralph Lauren. I’m Irish and I do not live in the USA. I like all 40 shades of green and hunter green has been one of my favourite shades since I was a child, long before 1986.
See, colour drenching is not for me, but I love seeing it where someone else loves it, because it can be a really interesting look ❤ and at the end, it's your home, you should love being in it

Trends are unimaginative when using ideas from former designers over and over with nothing new under the sun. Around 1900 we had a burst of creativity we haven't seen since, which is sad.
I'm a web designer yet I find myself watching these videos for inspiration and entertainment. I can really appreciate interior designers, something about creating cohesion within a space is much more difficult for me than visuals.
I love seeing the trends for ideas I can incorporate. However, I'm overwhelmed by the number of style names. Styles used to be recognizable and belonged to an "era," such as Victorian, Art Deco, Mid-Century and so on. But now we have things like Wabi Sabi Semi Farmhouse Bionice Industrial Scandi -- and that's one style. 😱
I've always loved Cottage Style, because you can pretty much incorporate everything and anything into it, although you might have to paint all the furniture white.
That's because what's old is usually new again, eventually. And furniture/decor mfrs don't want consumers digging thru attics & thrift stores for veeerrry familiar, "Trendy New Design!" items.

You could argue that it's not the granite in a 2000's Tuscan Kitchen that's dating it, it's everything else. Stone always looks good. You can almost always find a way to update other components of the kitchen if you have natural stone countertops.

I have two office spaces. A spot in my kitchen where I cram stuff between the cupboard and the wall and then a spot where I cram important crap that I'm still ignoring behind some books and records in my living room.

As a guy who has always gravitated towards pattern on pattern on pattern, I say "Hell yeah... Bring on the classic plaids!" I've had a hard time finding traditional plaids, striped, and tweeds for past ten years, so with this new trend, I'll have plenty to choose from.

I hung a very classic green and white pinstripe wallpaper in my kitchen and associated hallway 30 years ago. Love it then, love it just as much now. The stripe is fine enough that it reads as a neutral, and artwork looks great on it. Hard to go wrong long term with simple traditional designs.
Can you review kitchen designs throughout the decades? I think it would be super cool!

I also love that storage is a trend. That's kind of the finishing touch of a room. It takes thought and money to have really usable and nice storage.
The pandemic indeed taught me the importance of having a dedicated office. Working from my bedroom was a nightmare and it felt like I never was getting away from work. I now live alone but it's always important I live in a two-bedroom apartment. I like being able to close the door on work and leave it behind. I'm trying to turn the office into a library with a reading corner as well, though, so I don't want to keep a bad association with my office.
If redoing the kitchen was possible for me I'd definitely have a green kitchen.
You must be young because you haven't learned from the mistakes those older than you have made in the past.
Although I love most greens, I'd just like my kitchen to be anything but black!
I painted my kitchen a copper color and love it. I hate stainless, too much work. I do like stone. Looking forward to changing my countertops when I can afford it.

I LOVE a color drenched dining room. I had a beautiful dark kidney bean colored dining room at my old house for many years and never tired of it. I want to go all in with the perfect shade of blue/teal in my current dining room but haven't found a shade that knocks my socks off yet.
Love your channel! "Color Drenching" is not a new trend, though it IS a 'new term.' The Europeans have been doing it for hundreds of years 🤣. I love it in the right places and in modest doses.
True. And as long as the chosen color is muted, (a touch of gray, black or white paint mixed in) it usually looks pretty nice. Best in smaller cozier rooms tho, I think.
I've been drenched in 50 tints tones and shades of GRAY for the past decade. Enough already.
@@fazdoll Not gray colored paint ~ primary colors toned down with gray. (Black or white.) eg slate blue, sage green, butter yellow, soft peach-orange, etc.
I disagree. I think that it looks best in airy rooms with high ceilings. It could look claustrophobic in a small enclosed space (unless it's a light airy colour, like the butter yellow you mentioned).

I was just at an acquaintance yesterday who just moved into her elaborate new build recently….she has the hidden pantry door. I think the reason designers do that in an upscale kitchen is to keep all the cabinetry looking clean, not breaking up the site line with the door in place. I have to admit it’s a very nice kitchen. Oh, and by the way, she has the double island.🤣🙊🙈

As a former scientist who went to school in multi-island labs and worked in labs, I can say that there is no place for a double island in a kitchen. If you have a double island, your kitchen is too big. Use the square footage for a pantry or mudroom/laundry instead.
@@fazdoll well this person I’m speaking of has a pantry the size of a bedroom, huge mud room too. She’s an avid cook & baker, entertainer. Now for spouse & me, we have a small house, one island & walk in butler (yet smaller) pantry.

I love color…but not color drenching. If there is crown molding, ceiling medallions, beams, wainscoting, big baseboards, etc., I say accent them! That’s what they are there for 😊
Depends on the room for me. I hate white walls without any adornment and love structure/details. But accenting said details can go wrong so fast. or you want the walls not to be boring but the focus to lie on an artwork or a furniture piece and (depending on coulour) colour drenching can work here perfectly. if the room itself is the highlight or you go full maximalist, absolutely accent them!
Biophilic Design is a term I've never heard before. But, I'm excited that it's a trend because mentally this is the direction I'm leaning. I'm dreaming/planning a remodel that is primarily focused on PROW WINDOWS and increasing/improving the views from my home. It will also include transforming my yard by removing lawn and creating a man-made forest. I have come to the conclusion that staying in my home and transforming it will be easier than selling and finding my dream location elsewhere.

Nick, I agree with almost everything you say, but I don't think Carrara marble is dated. I might be wrong, of course, but I think it is timeless. My Italian grandma's kitchen counters were ivory carrara marble and they were the most beautiful counters I have ever seen. Maybe they were white when new, I don't know. They had a very organic feeling because the edges had been rounded by time and use. I don't recall her ever polishing or protecting them (maybe she did? I was a kid, I don't know), but there were no stains on them, just a natural polish and they looked almost velvety. When my grandparents passed the kitchen was remodeled and I don't know what happened to those priceless counters, I was already in the States by then. I would give my right... pinky nail to have at least a piece of it.
Definitely timeless. My bisnonna had a small accent table with a round Carrara marble top. The table has long since broken, but I kept the 100-year-old marble and it's now the centerpiece for my dining table.
I'm hoping someday we'll have walls that are like the Samsung Frame TV, where you can change them to any color or pattern you like, and you'll never know it's all a screen.

That colour drenching reminds me a lot of home style books from the mid to late 70s like Habitat. The stripes reminds me of mid 80s... disconcerting and not restful. Home offices, great idea. Hiding tat (useful clutter), good idea.

I’ve been working remotely for 14 years. I don’t need a big screen. I sit in different parts of the house for variety. I use a separate little table to hold the laptop when I am not at a desk or a counter top. I would never have a dedicated office. Also, I travel enough to make this arrangement work well. I simply don’t need a dedicated office. The wireless printer in the closet works well.

We've had the luxury of building our home and have added the largest windows possible to extend the garden into the house, and then I'm also obsessed with tropical plants so it feels like a jungle inside aswell as in the garden 😆
I’m not into trends, BUT I clicked on the video because trends give me ideas! It’s a bunch of examples of stuff I think I like and stuff I don’t want to do in my own home.
My husband and I have always had office rooms in our home. We didn’t work from home, but we each had our own computers, printers, etc. I never thought it was unusual.
It's unusual in being so wealthy you have the space.
@@653j521Right! I'm reading so many comments from people who were so blessed to have so much space that mom and dad could have their own extra rooms and everyone has extra office spaces. Different times, different parts of the world I guess. My partner and I both wfh and we make it work, but we have had to reimagine the setup of our space in a rather creative way to do so.
It's funny... perhaps it is because my maternal grandfather always had a dedicated office at home, or perhaps because growing up we always did our homework and studying in our bedrooms on appropriate tables, but it would never have occurred to me to NOT have a specific space for my work. Even when I've been living in a studio there was a table that was The Work Table and a chair that was The Work Chair.
I agree with all of these, but I would never buy a shearling chair, even though they look beautiful.

I think it's more itchy if it's NOT natural wool. Mine is soft and fluffy.
Better to buy a leather chair and throw a shearling pelt over the leather in the winter if that look is desired.

hidden staircases are awesome for keeping the look of a room cohesive and use of space. It not just about having a party trick. They literally take up less space than open staircases and it's better for energy efficency when you are in colder climates.
I love ticking on an occasional chair or a cushion too. It’s very timeless. I have a colour theme which is colours of the ocean; turquoise, darker blues and greens. Not a nautical sign or gimmick in sight though.

I'd actually love to see more metal tones become available, because I don't really find standard steel very neutral when it's in with a bunch of wood tones and warmer stone. I'd like to see copper and bronze tones for appliances be available. Especially for people who already want a lot of brass or copper fixtures but don't want to mix metal tones or choose between something as stark as black or white
For stone, check out labradorite. It's bold and literally flashy. Definitely not classic looking. I probably wouldn't use it in my own home (couldn't afford it if I wanted to) but I collect rocks and minerals so think it's neat.

LOVE black stainless steel. We ended up with a black stainless steel stove because the regular stainless was gone and now we wish we had pushed for all black stainless steel appliances. If nothing else, it stays cleaner looking much longer lol
I wish the harvest gold appliances would come back i miss the 70’s

We’ve had colour drenching for over 5 years in the U.K., and some times it still feels fresh, but some of the examples you gave… I actually felt myself thinking: “Not that again, it’s over-done. It looks dated.” 😮 So… yeah, there’s that to consider!
There are however some trends that people on RUclips say are dated, and they still look fresh to me after 15 years 😂. So… it’s all personal taste, clearly!
I think it will look really bad in a few years. I think most times the everyday person’s color drenching will look cheap compared to the designer version. Trim is classic.
To me, color drenching just looks like a landlord special. "I didn't want to pay a decent painter to paint the trim and plaster separately and do a tidy job on it, so just paint everything this one color that I got for cheap and claim it's a Design Choice." Ick.
I would never paint the ceiling anything but white. My ceiling in my bedroom when I bought it was the same color as the walls, it was a light tan color. It made the room look dark. When I had it remodeled, I went with a really light pink for the walls and a white ceiling. The difference was dramatic in how much lighter the room looked.

Hey Nick, could you please address the current trend of hanging garland on a doorway or fireplace asymmetrically? I don’t mind asymmetry but for some reason this bugs the heck out of me. I’ve seen a couple of designers do this (even in traditional style… love that for THEM).

I think it is just another way to throw a new spin onto things. It will go to the wayside before you know it if I have my guess.
I saw another designer's video who had garland hung asymmetrically all over the house. I wanted to reach through the screen and fix it. It bugs me too LOL.
Geronimo, I hear you! So far, I haven’t seen this done in the real world but it’s just as well. I’d be thinking, “oh no, I hope the person wasn’t interrupted by falling off the ladder while hanging that garland around their front door!” Because in my mind, no one would do that intentionally.

My sister lived in an apartment where the washer/dryer was hidden by a built in shelving unit on a door that swung back. It was very helpful in that, rather than just hiding the washer dryer behind a door, it allowed an opportunity to display books and decorative objects on the shelving, about 6 feet across.
As a former baker, I love stainless steel, so easy to keep clean. The problem with it in the home is one knock and it is dented, and you are not removing that dent
And you cant put magnets on it.

i still like white for appliances. esp to go with white cabs. but i also like the black stainless steel or even dark grey. i'm so sick of stainless being pushed everywhere and i think those darker ones fall back a bit. actually found like ONE dishwasher in a dark grey stainless and it falls back pretty good with dark brown cabs. (plus all the damn FINGERPRINTS on stainless because some companies SUCKED, or the staining that could happen. NO THANKS!!! that's part of why i liked white for so long. stainless appliances could be like glass tables. constant cleaning and fingerprints. and like stainless was a fad despite not being utilitarian. who has time to FUSS that much?? not all of us, that's for sure!)

Stainless steel is silver. To make it black it needs a coating on top. Powder coating is more durable than other types of spray finishes that may be applied as a liquid versus powder. There are also different quality levels of powder coating. If you do your homework you can purchase something durable.
Yasss! Color! I just finished a graphic design course where the instructor didn’t like that I used a light sunshine yellow coupled with a turquoise as the main colors in my final project. She said the yellow looked too “cautionary” and I should lean more towards neutrals because that is the current trend. I told her it was just a trend and we’ll start seeing a move back towards colors soon. I did change my project to have neutral colors to appease her to keep my grades up, but that was two weeks ago and neutrals are now officially out of style! 😆

All white rooms have been around twice now in my 75 years, so I'm completely over them. If they never come back in my lifetime I'm OK with that, so I don't agree that color drenching in white is an exception to the "rule". But it's fun to see what's trending now. Thanks!

I love hidden pantries & hidden spaces. I loved everything else except not a big stripe fan in rooms. Clothes, yes, walls not for me. I do love a dramatic wallpaper though. Maybe more biophilic.
Nick I know you’re from BC and must be familiar with the Royal BC museum. Well I’ve always been drawn to their nature dioramas. So much so I’m disappointed when museums don’t have dioramas.
Trying to wrap my head around the biophilic design definition, but I think I must be for me since I’ve thought if I won the lottery I would want a nature diorama in my house to enjoy when the weather is bad.

Yes to the dedicated workspace. Since 1979 I’ve always made it a priority. I worked as a freelance graphic designer and it was so important to have an end to the workday. Otherwise work was always staring me in the face.
I love the hidden doorways!!! I see it as something quirky but also could be a great security feature in the event of a break in. (Or to hide a secret lifestyle 😅 imagine uf someone had a room full of beanie babies 😂)
My sister purchased an LG appliance package in black ice. Only a year later, the film is peeling off along the edges. I'd stay clear of anything that's just coated with a film.

I have the black stainless steel LG line (wash tower, fridge, oven and dw). Love it. Moved into a 20 year old condo and the shiny stainless in the kitchen with a bright blue glass backsplash made it really dated. Changed the backsplash to black matte subway tile and switched out the appliances to black stainless Voila updated kitchen.
I did put a scratch in the fridge door when I ran into it carrying a sheet pan but it doesn’t stick out.
P.S. Colour drenching just looks like any older rental apartment where someone decided to paint it and then just painted over everything, the doors, baseboards, light switches, etc etc etc. I lived in apartments like that when I couldn’t afford anything better. Now that I’m a grown up I want to have a different colour on the walls than on the trim. Just saying’
Biophilic design was a trend of the 60's and 70's for those that didnt follow the cookie cutter suburban subdivision. West coast vib for sure.
