- Here's my Second Favorite Scene from Airplane!
Airplane! (titled Flying High! in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, and the Philippines) is a 1980 American satirical comedy film directed and written by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker and released by Paramount Pictures. It stars Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty and features Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Lorna Patterson. The film is a parody of the disaster film genre, particularly the 1957 Paramount film Zero Hour!, from which it borrows the plot and the central characters The film is known for its use of absurd and fast-paced slapstick comedy, including visual and verbal puns and gags.
Airplane! was a financial success, grossing over US$83 million in North America alone, against a budget of just $3.5 million. The film's creators received the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Comedy, and nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy and a BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay.
In the years since its release, Airplane!'s reputation has grown substantially. The film was voted the 10th-funniest American comedy on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Laughs list in 2000, and ranked sixth on Bravo's 100 Funniest Movies. In a major 2007 survey by Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, it was judged the second greatest comedy film of all time.
In 2008, Airplane! was selected by Empire magazine as one of The 500 Greatest Movies of All Time and in 2012 was voted No. 1 in The 50 Funniest Comedies Ever poll. In 2010 it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Several of the spoken lines, or gags, have become enduring puns in American culture. - Кино
All the symptoms hit him precisely on cue -- love this goddamn flick!
The genius of this whole film was casting serious actors and getting them to play it totally straight!
YOu summed it up! The mystery to me is, what serious TV shows do I remember Leslie Nielson from? Such a funny movie!
@@jackmacdonald7636 Swamp Fox on Disney TV show years back. Captain of a spaceship in Forbidden Planet which was one the the best SF movies before Star Wars. I'm sure there are many others before he broke out in Airplane! and the Police Squad movies.
Peter graves portrayal of each symptom is epic.
The Zucker Brothers are Legendary!!! One of the funniest films of all time!😂
0:29 I love how there's a completely cleaned entire fish skeleton on the plate. Who eats like that?
You mean, outside of a Looney Tunes cartoon? :D
Nobody does. That is what is part of the humor :D
Never realized that it's a sorta tribute to Looney Tunes!
And it's probably very unlikely that they'd serve a whole fish like that on a plane...
I love how the autopilot was a blow up doll. Where does that happen? Jack ass.
One of the funniest scenes in Airplane which is really saying something
Corona virus symptoms :D
Sales of fish probably plummeted in 1980.
fun fact this movie inspired a rule on airlines that forces the pilot and co-pilot to eat separately prepared food that they bring on the airplane, they don't eat what the passengers get. They stated they didn't expect something akin to Airplane would ever happen in reality due to the rigorous screening airline food goes through but it seems like a good rule to keep around regardless.
No they eat whatever the passengers eat now, that rule went away
But the pilot and co-pilot still generally have the different options of meals!
Give me Ham on Five, hold the Mayo.
Lately I've been rewatching The Winds of War and War & Remembrance where Graves played a serious diplomat & seeing Peter here makes me laugh that much harder.
The funniest part of the movie!
I Wish this was how pharmaceutical companies would advertise their drugs when they talk about health risks and side affects. Instead they show a guy having fun in a park, having a cold coke with his friends while they talk about mood swing, suicidal thoughts and diarrhea. They should just show a guy Losing it with his friends for no reason, taking a bat out and swinging it and then hitting himself over the head with it; then running to the woods to take an uncontrolled "movement".
Think about that the next time you see a pharma commercial.
Surely, this movie can't be serious !
It’s not serious, and don’t call me Shirley
Regarding the director or producer, is/was he a friend of Mel Brooks?
I had lasagna
