Dr. Gupta, you are the best!! I found your channel yesterday and you have literally answered so much of my questions in your videos. They really reassured me a lot. I have always had a bit of a phobia for heart disease and so on. And when I started getting ectopics they freaked me out a lot at first and I got scared of them. Now thanks to your videos I know I have basically nothing to worry about and I can finally let this fear of these ectopics go!!
There was a time when I had an appt at 7:00am. I had a stress test and after that a nuclear test. Suddenly, I realized that it was 2:00pm and my 8-year-old daughter was about to get home, but I was still at the clinic. That's when my palpitations got out of control. The technician said, "Your heartbeat is irregular, but I know that you are anxious right now thinking about your daughter." To make the story short, my test results were normal and my neighbor took care of my daughter until I got home. It was the best time ever to feel those annoying skipped beats because they were able to confirm they were harmless.
I've been told this by my cardiologist 20 yrs ago. I regularly do and play sports, nothing has happened to me so far. I wore a holter upon which I ran my fastest and my heart gave out a huge thud as it skipped a beat. I was certain they finally caught what I was suffering from! Turns out it's nothing. 🤷 As a result, I've chosen to ignore my heart and I've been doing sports for years now.
@@martingeorgiev4120 it mostly feels like my heart stops and then starts working again. The thud is felt at the moment when it feels like it is starting to work again. I've had this for 23 years. It's benign, nothing has happened to me. I've never fainted, lost my breath, devoloped high blood pressure or anything. And I'm a smoker too. Magnesium does help. A heart "skipping beats" is no big deal. If a doctor tells you it's benign, do really trust him and go on with your life to achieve great things and enjoy great moments.
@@nvr5490 You explained exactly what happens to me. It feels like all of a sudden my heart stops or hesitates for a second then when it starts beating again the first beat is a big thud then it's back to regular beats.
Dear Dr. Gupta, I have enjoyed watching your videos on heart palpitations and found them to be very helpful. I appreciate your holistic approach to getting rid of palpitations. One question I have for you is if you have found any connection between tyramine rich foods and palpitations. According to some of the internet articles I have read, foods that are high in tyramine such as aged cheeses and meat or overripe fruits, can cause palpitations (and migraines). Thanks again for the wonderful videos!
these videos are very informative and reassuring. I have had these for 20+ years and have taken atenolol for that long also. Thanks so much for the information.
do you still take atenolol? ive been told i have pvc's after an ecg ... it's so annoying i sometimes also have to take atenolol during the night to get to sleep... im feeling down cuz of all this im 29 yo and i think it's just too bad i already have this but well doc told me it's normal and a lot of people have them... still i worry a lot

I actually fear over exercising cos I'd always knew with irregular heart beats things want always be normal so I exercise for a while nd stop it with fear, today u actually cleared my doubts that it can cause death that's what's I actually feared. Though a bit complicated today I got it. Thanks for the explanation doc. God bless u. My doc said ecg clear yet I fear those irregular heart beats.
My doctor said a similar thing, but additional reassurance is very helpful. I have a moderate 5% pvc burden and ectopics, but not structural damage. Doctor highly recommended to keep going with my exercise.
Great work you are doing, this knowledge isn't always so easily available, or so well explained and it can lead to patients being stressed if they do not understand what they're reading! Keep up this awesome initiative!
Dr Gupta has a heart of gold. Anybody who trash talks this man must have heart issues. ANGER creates cortisol and adrenaline. Dr Gupta, dont let one jerk interfere. YOU have helped me a great deal. Especially in regards to magnesium. I tried it and cut my ectipics in half. Only when I read idiotic comments by haters do they come back!! Love ya doc!!!
Why do i get them when i squat but not when i hit dips or push ups or pull ups? But when I squat i get them as im squatting? Anyone else experience this
I started taking heart calm magnesium and with a little time and more sleep, I never get palpitations with work or exercise. Now I just get them with indigestion and it typically won't be more than 4 or 5 and it's over.
My Holter monitor showed extra heartbeats and doctor says it very reassuring. Some days are worse than others. I was in trigememiny once and ecg caught PACs. But doctor says there harmless. I get them worse when my anxiety kicks in.
I'm 23 years old, 1.80 meters tall, and weigh 78 kg. I've been an athlete all my life, but since around 2020, I started to notice several additional heartbeats after finishing my training sessions (during the recovery period). I often associate the first occurrences with my last years of engineering, where I experienced a lot of anxiety. The thing is, since then, despite having overcome the anxiety issues, the supraventricular extrasystoles (PAC's) have persisted. I've been checked by various doctors in different countries, and all of them tell me they are benign or that I don't have enough at rest to warrant an ablation, but this reality doesn't help me at all because what matters to me is to do sports without discomfort or worry. From doing all kinds of physical activity, it's already been 3 years where I've had to limit myself to static weight lifting or very gentle cardio, and this has me extremely frustrated. Every time I push myself a bit further, they occur after the training session. I've never had them during the exercise, it's always when I finish, and living with the constant worry that they will occur is shitty
Bro i am also 23 y old m 1.87 m tall and athlete in 2021 I started feeling these pvc after my workout not during I was very active now I can't exercise because they come back when I try some exercise How are you now Do you find cure?
With my ectopic beats I look forward to exercise because that is when my heart beats it's best... That is when my thoughts leave my heart to do it's thing... It then works perfectly when my thoughts are no longer getting in the way... A mentally disturbed heart? Yes, no question about it...

36Hooters I have been diagnosed with Malignant Arrhythmogenic Bileaflet Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome and have had an icd implanted. I exercise only because I know if I go into vfib I will be shocked by my device & not drop dead. My PVC’s increase dramatically with exercise and even in the recovery period. Anti-Arrhythmic medication such as flecainide would help the heart rhythm & PVC’s but the meds prolong your QT interval and I already have a prolonged QT interval so meds are not an option for me. I was on a very small dose of a beta blocker which I could not tolerate .
S H I went to Columbia Medical Center in NYC. They did not know what was wrong so they called a fellow Dr. in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His name is Dr. Arthur Wilde. He flew to NYC to study me and he came up with the diagnosis & advised me to see Dr. Michael Ackerman, a cardiac geneticist at The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He agreed with the diagnosis and is the only doctor that is studying this rare condition. At present there are only 43 people in the world that have this.
Doctor, I get hundreds of pvc’s after excercise. The rate of these ectopics are every 5-8 beats and when you’re heart is beating fairly quick after excercise the feels like every 4 beats. and they occur for hours after excercise. In the gym I lift weights but not super heavy. After a set I put the weight down and they then begin to happen rapidly during the “recovery phase” between each set, so as my heart rate comes back down. They kick off extremely, I just feel like any of these PVCs could lead me into sudden cardiac arrest. Please get back to me doc. Love from Australia 🇦🇺❤️
Jason Shazimanoski hey bro I’m on a beta blocker now, I haven’t had a pvc for two weeks. But if I get off them I’ll have a pvc every few beats while in the gym it’s fucked. Allrise I have health anxiety too I’ll notice the tiniest thing wrong with me and obsess over it for ever. Like it’s stupid. And it controls your life. I still get a pvc few times a day man. Keep training and living life speak to doc.. see what the options are, I’m off the beta blocker I was put on (propranolol) because it made me very depressed. Which is possible in some people that take it. Best of luck man

Thank you, thank you, thank you for these videos! I get PAC's and PVC's when exercising, and they make me feel tired and lethargic. I wear a heart rate monitor and have difficulty knowing how intense I should go when my heart is beating 180 or more beats per minute already. I am not afraid of these palpitations, but do get frustrated because I want to build my aerobic fitness level, and they sabotage my ability to track my exercise intensity and make me feel like quitting.

i get some pvcs during exercise, but they primarily come after working out, upon cool down. i’ll have a pvc every 4-6 beats. i read a study about recovery pvcs and increased risk of cardiac death. i’ve pretty much stopped exercising because of this. i do have history of sudden death in my family. my father and sister have long qt. my ekg was inconclusive, however my genetic testing came back negative for the long qt gene mutation. and my US was normal. i’m not sure what to think anymore /: i really don’t know if i should be exercising. my cardiologist isn’t worried about it, but i know it’s not normal for a perfectly healthy 26 year old to have so many pvcs. my heart monitor showed over 6,000 in one day. There's a prescription niacin + fish oil drug on the market. It's the "next level" for people who have high cholesterol and have already had a heart attack, so yeah, fish oil might be beneficial for the heart!
Yeah, fish oil seems to lower trigycerides, and the "flush" form of niacin seems to raise levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL). And as we know: "HDL is called the "good" cholesterol because it carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver. Your liver then removes the cholesterol from your body. LDL stands for low-density lipoproteins." medlineplus.gov/hdlthegoodcholesterol.html

I was given a beta blocker for the extra heart beat. How long does it take before you feel a difference in the beats? And thank you for this video. I honestly had no idea so many people go threw this. I had the heart monitor on and my doctor said I was at 7% so I was have like 2000 within a 24 hour period. Sometime the go away but most of the time they are there.
I know this video is over 2 years old but hope you see this comment. I get Ectopics after exercise, for instance siting down after walking. Was wondering why that happens? Thanks
7:27 I would definitely not mess with my ventricles. They are literally creating scar tissue, just what happens in a heart attack, which obviously weakens the heart muscle. The whole analogy I have for this ablation business is hitting the heart with a hammer until it’s so weak it can’t pull off these tricks anymore.
What do you call etopics that are back to back and feels like it takes your breath away!!! That sends me into a panic attack real quick…. Usually triggers are caffeine and chocolate, stress and anxiety

I get multiple ectopics in a row and doctors still say I'm fine because of normal ecg and echocardiogram.I don't understand how just coffee ot stress is supposed to cause my heart to beat completely abnormal for minutes per time.Once or twice in my life I got episodes that ectopics just wouldn't stop coming one after the other so I swallowed half a beta blocker out of fear. The holter monitor showed nothing of course because heart decided to behave with the monitor around...so annoyed. My paternal grandmother actually passed from sudden cardiac death at the age of 27,something I have always mentioned to doctors. This is why I'm so scared.

This does not just become a physical aspect of health. It can also affect you mentally. I try sometimes to push and work with the horses like i use to a year ago. It can get to be physically demanding and it is how i kept fit with exercise but now I worry I will have an episode and fall out. To Slowed heart rhythm or my heart just stops. due to irregular beats. I get fast and slowed rhythms spastic sometimes but for a couple of seconds less than a minute, at Random times. He gave me the Loop Recorder after doing an EP study of my Heart. Again Thank you for educating us on the heart.
I like what you're doing by reassuring people and I agree with pretty much everything you're saying. And you are the cadiologist. Not me. But what about the possibility of catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (cpvt), long qt syndrome, Brugada syndrome, and WPWs??? I know these are all small risks for most people but couldn't it most certainly be a cause of concern for the 5-10 people out of 2500 in the studies? given that it matches the same statistics as some of those diseases?

Hi Dr. I have a concern my brother in law is a diabetic and his heart beats fast, shortness of breath. Throughing up, what could that be we r very concern of what could be happening to him. Thanks
Are PVC's considered ectopics? I had up to 40% (40K) PVC's per day at the height of my arrhythmia. But, when I exercised, they went away, most of the time. I did have a somewhat successful ablation procedure and my PVC's went down to about 12% (12K) per day. Considered another ablation but my Cardiologist suggested blood pressure medication to help control the rhythm of my heart. I take spironolactone, bystolic, and losartan. They have virtually eliminated any PVC's over the last 12 months or so. Do these medications have any long term negative consequences?
An ectopic beat can be further classified as either a premature ventricular contraction, or a premature atrial contraction. Just found on wiki. Hope you're feeling well.

I wore a holter upon which I ran my fastest and my heart gave out a huge thud as it skipped a beat. I was certain they finally caught what I was suffering from! Turns out it's nothing. 🤷
As a result, I've chosen to ignore my heart and I've been doing sports for years now.
Can you explain more? Did it feel like someone hitting your left chest? If yes, then how come it’s nothing? What did they say why does that happen?

Doctor, I get hundreds of pvc’s after excercise. The rate of these ectopics are every 5-8 beats and when you’re heart is beating fairly quick after excercise the feels like every 4 beats. and they occur for hours after excercise. In the gym I lift weights but not super heavy. After a set I put the weight down and they then begin to happen rapidly during the “recovery phase” between each set, so as my heart rate comes back down. i get some pvcs during exercise, but they primarily come after working out, upon cool down. i’ll have a pvc every 4-6 beats. i read a study about recovery pvcs and increased risk of cardiac death. i’ve pretty much stopped exercising because of this. i do have history of sudden death in my family. my father and sister have long qt. my ekg was inconclusive, however my genetic testing came back negative for the long qt gene mutation. and my US was normal. i’m not sure what to think anymore /: i really don’t know if i should be exercising. my cardiologist isn’t worried about it, but i know it’s not normal for a perfectly healthy 26 year old to have so many pvcs. my heart monitor showed over 6,000 in one day. is daily fish oil good for the heart?
I have been taking Cod Liver Oil for 25 years to prevent arthritis and joint pain. Guess it worked. I'm 82 and have no joint pain. Good like.
There's a prescription niacin + fish oil drug on the market. It's the "next level" for people who have high cholesterol and have already had a heart attack, so yeah, fish oil might be beneficial for the heart!
My cholesterol is great with pill but I have normal blood pressure with pill. Good luck.
Yeah, fish oil seems to lower trigycerides, and the "flush" form of niacin seems to raise levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL). And as we know:
"HDL is called the "good" cholesterol because it carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver. Your liver then removes the cholesterol from your body. LDL stands for low-density lipoproteins." medlineplus.gov/hdlthegoodcholesterol.html
