  • We recently had a go rinding around on the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, the adventure bike full to the brim with tech after six years of production. Join Toad as he explores the latest tech on the Austrian brand’s newest off-road machine, with plenty of on-road mod cons chucked in - it’s almost like 5 bikes rolled in to one.
Could this be the best big budget adventure motorcycle on the market? KTM could be on to a winner with this one…
The most technologically advanced #motorcycle in the #KTM range has been given an update for 2021 as the new 1290 Super Adventure S is revealed to the world.
The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is a big bike on every front for the Austrian firm. It's not just a strong seller, it’s a halo bike in a range that encompasses motocross, enduro, supermoto and road bikes. For 2021 though, KTM has had a hare to catch, a bright red hare in the form of Ducati’s tech-laden and powerful Multistrada V4. Let @Visordown take you through how they did it.

Metaphoric expression "Diesel Motorcycle" is showing exactly how I understood 1301cc KTM V-twins in the past: short powerband and tonnes of torque. Will see is there any real difference with these new engines. Good review! From Russia with Love

If you think the LC8 motor has a short powerband you've clearly never ridden one :P It revs the tits off compared to every other twins

Ktm’s perpetual uncomfortable seat issue is just an extreme and unbelieavable phenomene in itself!
    I had and rode lots Ktm’s since 2008. (RC8, 690’s, 990, 1190, 1290 sd, etc...)
Except 1st gen Superduke, all Ktm seats were torture devices!
Now I have a 790 adv which came with a piece of plank disguised as a seat! I paid a substantial amount of money for the heated and so called comfort seat for 790 adv yet the so called 790 adv comfort seat came with the EXACT same plank material as the standart seat!!!
Thanks to KTM and to my luck I have access to a great local upholsterer who keep literaly saving my butt since 2008!
And no, I do NOT make my KTM seat modifications “too soft”,
    not at all!
I can not believe that a brand as big as KTM still can not solve the comfort of seat issue as much as a poor local upholsterer who have to work in his house because he never had enough capital to rent a shop!
    Unbelieavable yet true...
    Thanks for the review.🖖

I feel like you had issues flat footing this. Would be interested in details on that. I understand the new model is something like an inch lower on seat height. But still pretty tall overall.

That’s a nice big screen, but this is question to anyone who knows: For simple maintenance like oil change, is it necessary to own a special code reader or have a dealership turn off the great big screen’s “service” notification?

Pick mine up in a few weeks , hopefully its a bit lower than my 2017 1290s , and the gearbox was always clunky on the old model this has supposed to of been sorted fingers crossed great bike though cheers for the video

I'm slightly confused. I sat on one yesterday at the dealer. The standard seat on a low setting looked lower than the 2017 1290 i rode there, but it wasn't. I was on tip-toes more! Odd. Mine was in rider no luggage street mode. I can almost flat foot both feet. Not on the new one. It's possible that it had been set to rider plus luggage and left there of course!
Looks better in the flesh for sure. Dislike the matt grey one as you'll see every mark on it. The orange slab one isn't great either. But my choice would've been the 'R' colours! The R in the flesh looks fab. I think KTM have dropped the ball bigtime by not having the 'S' available in the 'R' colours - they'd have sold every one they made I'm certain of it. Stupid decision!!

If you already have a Super Adventure, then I doubt that it would be worth the loss in value to sell your existing SA to get the new one - you've already got a flagship bike. So unless you really, really want adaptive cruise control over the standard cruise control on your SA - or you struggle with the top-heaviness or really need that extra inch of lower seat height - I think you'd be just as happy to keep the bike you've already fallen in love with!

KTM doesn't what you to easily turn off the traction control because as soon as someone gets hurt in California they will run to the courthouse and place a million-dollar lawsuit on KTM claiming they were "Just using the turn signals and the next thing they knew they were sliding down the road on their backs in midday traffic", even though we all seen them hitting wheelies all afternoon. So, now it will take some effort and fewer chances of bogus lawsuits.

It is funny how marketing can change people’s perception of what it is that they are looking for or need. I thought an 80’s GS or KLR650 was a more accurate depiction of an adventure bike but I do like the bikes now that are a versatile touring bike that can handle terrible road conditions, if they could focus a little more on seat comfort and wind protection they’d really have something

well i'm sure it is a pretty good bike, but... have you noticed how technology improves and less and less humans are needed? one of these days we may find ourselves obsolete in the action department. just observers. i love to ride my very humble '08 versys 650. not even abs. it makes me a better rider every day.

    • @hungwasson1399
      @hungwasson1399 3 года назад +2

You say (& no doubt believe) that - but the crash statistics say you're wrong. This is why ABS is being mandated for plated motorcycles in so many places. And why lean angle sensitive ABS is a thing. The facts are that modern ABS in fact can brake better than you. If you don't like ABS or any of those new-fangled technologies that are getting onto bikes today, you'll just have fewer and fewer bikes to choose from as time passes.
