Glad you enjoyed it. The build itself has slowed right down at the moment due to finances sadly. Hopefully pick up in March when I start my old age pension LOL. But in the meantime when I can afford a bit of wood the base will be extended and I also have a load of buildings to put together along with a train conversion. Regards Chris
One circuit works out at 100' so times that twice, then of course you have the line going in the opposite direction. I think that makes it about 400' truly immense LOL. Regards Chris
Hi Chris, Really liked your update. Your locos go up your incline so nicely, there was next to no noticeable slow down when all 12 coatches were on, I bet your so pleased. Looking forward to your next update. Take care, Gemma
Hi Gemma, I was ecstatic with the result. My old locos really struggled but as you saw no problems with the new ones. Once I have the layout operational I will see how many coaches my locos can pull up there with ease. Certainly with twelve there was no problem. Glad you enjoyed the video. Regards Chris
Impressive and you should be happy! Enviuos of the long run you can get on your left layout. I did test on my riser, and my single engine works well as long as it has a little run up on the straight before hittign the incline, but part of this is because the track needed a damn good clean! Regards, Steve
As you say Chris that was a resounding success. All the difficulties in working in the smaller scale fades away for me when you get to run decent length trains. 12 coaches behind a Pacific class loco just looks great. The Deltic at the head of the rake also looked good, and I think one may, someday, grace Elvenhome. Stephen
Hi Chris that was a great test the three engines look great things are starting to happen now looking forward to the next one. All the best mate. Colin
Hi Colin - Thanks for the nice words. Its starting to move along now but so much to do at the moment. Cannot wait for the first circuit to go down. Regards Chris
Hi Chris, that is conclusive proof right there. If in doubt always best to test!! Great results and if they can pull at the half power (which they did of course) then you will have no issues going forward. Watching with great interest and as I have said to others, be in no rush to lay the first circuit down, just make sure it works first time, every time. When you said you ran at full speed because it was you wanting to…that is called, ‘playing trains’…. Great test well done mate…all the best, Chris
Hi Chris - Cheers mate for those kind words, yes I was playing trains LOL. Really cannot wait for the first circuit but that's a long way away at the moment, so much to do. Glad you enjoyed the test, I was amazed how easy they all pulled 12 coaches up the incline. When its all up and running I will do further tests to see what they can pull up there. Like you say I am enjoying myself so what is the rush. Regards Chris
Excellent Chris, you could try 2% just for fun to find the limit. I just cut a small part so I could get a great transition from the helix to the lower board. Most enjoyable video.
Hi Chris - Interesting, Hugh of Perth South wondered how many more it could pull after it easily pulled 12 up a 1% incline and now your asking to try a 2% incline. Tony of Heritage Line says I should do another video of me using Bullfrog Snot on my old MiniTrix locos to see if that makes a difference as the tyres could be old and not doing there job properly Seems to me that I need to do some more interesting inclines tests LOL. Watch this space. Regards Chris
G'day Chris, there's gonna be some massively long trains running on your layout!! Good to see the positive progress with the trains running up the incline without any issues. Have a good week and I look forward to the next update. John
Hi John - Yes I was very pleased with the result mate. At least I now know that I will be able to pull long rakes of coaches and wagons around the circuit and into Bognor Regis Terminus when I need to. Busy tiling in the kitchen and utility room at the moment so not much going on up in the loft. I also need more wood to continue the benchwork, then it will start to look a bit more tidier up there. Oh slight change on the long sweeping bend, its looking good though. Regards Chris
Hi Chris - What a success the incline test was and very impressive with 12 coaches. Lovely looking locos and you can always come up for an excuse for running them. Some Merchant Navy’s suffered from cracks so Britannia’s were brought in so I got one 😀😂 Keep Well Cheers Kev
Cheers Kev - Glad you enjoyed the test. I got some wood today so I can build another three stages to the layout over the weekend. Then i can run some more interesting incline tests, like how many coaches can they pull and how would they fare on a 2% incline as has been suggested to me. Oooh I would love a Britannia, did they run on Southern? Regards Chris
Hi Chris 2% incline now I’m getting excited too 😀😀 Yes Britannia’s did run on SR 70004 William Shakespeare and 70014 Iron Duke based out of Stewart’s Lane shed pulling the Golden Arrow and the Dover Boat Trains until 1958 when they went to the London Midland Region . So I am sure you can find an excuse to run them 👍🏾 Cheers Kev
Hi Chris. Glad the gradient test worked. 12 coaches! Wow that’s impressive. I wish I could have had less steep gradients as some of my steam locos struggle. Maybe I should have planned my layout in n gauge LOL! All the best and good luck with the next stage. Hugh
Hi Hugh - Lovely to hear from you mate. Yeah likewise I was impressed with 12 coaches, to be honest I think it could pull a lot more. Mmmmm maybe a further test to see what the limit is Hugh. I could easily have had a large 00 gauge in my loft but that's what I like about N Gauge, double the size mate. Ok it is a little more fiddly but not a great deal more. Just think of the layout you could have then, mind you I love your layout and there is nothing wrong with it at all. Perfect in my books. But I know what you mean, larger the better for impact and running. Looking forward to your next video. Regards Chris
Hi Paul - As I said in the video, I dont have to do it, its just me being silly. Also curious to see what speed from a standing start it can actually do with 12 coaches on the back. Regards Chris
Hi Chris, a good test there and gives a good indication of the size and extent of your layout, it will be overall huge!! Some nice engines you have there and new coaches 😊! Is the a flying Scotsman a Farish loco? I also have the coronation class City of Edinburgh and it’s a dream of a loco on DCC slow speed control! When will the track laying stage start in anger? Cheers Gary
Hi Gary - Yeah the length of the track will be 40' and the bend has to fit in a 8' wide loft, so about 7' winding bend at is largest I guess. I love the new trains I have so far, especially the City of Birmingham, she looks a beauty. But my layout is based on Southern Rail and there is not a great deal out there. Dapol are bringing out some new class M7 which I hope to get, otherwise the only other ones in N Gauge from Dapol are the Class V 'Schools' locos which I would like a few of. Graham Farish have the Class N1 which I think is before the time I am covering and in any case were never at Bognor I believe. So GF are a dead loss basically (I think they are giving up on N Gauge anyway). The Flying Scotsman is a Dapol 2S-011-006 A3 which has been discontinued and very hard to get hold of. Regarding the laying of track, I have got a third of the baseboards down, so I still have to purchase the wood etc for the rest, not cheap. I then also have to purchase track if available and again not cheap. Bearing in mind I am unemployed so living off my savings and still on a mortgage, thank goodness for credit cards cos that's what's funding the model railway at the moment LOL. Fortunately I get my state pension in March 2022 so then I can insulate the loft and at least get the two figure of eight main lines down. From then till 2024 when the mortgage is finished I will when I can carry on working on the layout. So I hope that answers your question gary. Regards Chris
@@Chris-BognorRegis Hi Chris as you say best to keep it simple to get your locos running and get one oval working but you have a huge layout to consider what your doing with it. I had plans then changed my mind many times fling the way but all part of the fun 😃 cheers Gary
Hi Chris, nice to see the incline testing, you are going to have no troubles from what we have seen, just as a matter of interest what minitrix locos failed? All the best Tony.
Hi Tony - The Mallard and the black version of the Evening Star failed but the Ginty would you believe it along with the Evening Star did it but both struggled. I did the normal run in about a year ago on them, but they are actually over 40 years old, so maybe that is why. Possibly with a really good run in they might improve. Regards Chris
@@Chris-BognorRegis Don't get rid of them just yet, I suspect that it could be due to the traction tyres, The rubber will either be hard after all these years so not gripping or could be missing, new ones can be purchased. Their is a video on youtube somewhere showing how to change the traction tyres on a Minitrix loco but not for the light hearted LOL! I do have a old 9f to do this too but it is still on the to do list. All the best Tony.
Oh goodness no Tony I will not be getting rid of them. I have some Bullfrog Snot which replaces the rubber tyres and is brilliant. If they do not improve then they will be used on the test track by the grandkids which quickly comes apart and can be brought down for them to play on. The test track will be DC and DCC controlled. Regards Chris
@@Chris-BognorRegis Be interesting to see how you get on with the bullfrog snot, if it works do a video as not many people know about that product. I here there is a technique in doing it, but I'm sure with a bit of time and practice you manage 😁 All the best Tony.
That's a good idea Tony, will do mate. Will show the Minitrix that could not make it then add bullfrog snot and see what happens. I've got a very good RUclips video on here somewhere that shows you how to apply the snot. looks easy LOL. Yes will make a good video, watch this space. Regards Chris
Nice Railroad. Long rails. Thanks for sharing Greetinf from USA🇺🇸
