I have a 2020 Durango and they wanted to charge me $135 for HVAC Deodorizer and $110 for ac filter. I said nope. Glad I found both your videos on this. Saved me $245! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thanks for this. I got a quote of $60 for this at a repair shop. $30 for the filter ALONE. $14 and 15 minutes of my time. What a trade off. Kudos to you!
Be careful in really cold climates and let the car interior warm up before putting too much pressure on the glove box when the plastic is cold and brittle.
Your video has made my day! I was able to follow your instructions and find the source of the smell in our Durango! Some sort of animal had stored TONS of cat food in our filter area. It was awful! Now we got it all fixed!
should the airflow arrow point up or down? I installed my with the arrows pointing down because my old filter had the arrows pointing down. I appreciate this video, when I saw this I quickly ordered one along with the windshield wipers and the air filter.. My weekend project is done. lol
The charcoal filter does not only "super filter your air" yes it filters better but the activated charcoal also absorbed and lessens smells from a dirty car or moisture buildup that happens naturally in your airbox when running your AC. That's why on humid days you see water dripping when parked and running your AC. So if you have that moldy musky smell in your car when you run the AC try out the activated charcoal filters.
Not worried about your kids going in the road bro? I'm not being critical but Jesus I had a panic attack watching it. One of my biggest fears. God Bless and great video man
Thank you. Your video is a big help. It's my first time to do it. I did not pay attention on how install the filter cover. Thus, I struggle a little. When I grabbed my flashlight, I saw the tab to hook the cover. At that point I figured out the correct installation orientation. Thank you again
Thank you for showing this! Great to see where and how everything is installed. I purchased same filter for the same reason. But if you live in a city, go with carbon. They filter the exhaust fumes better when you are stuck in traffic behind a diesel. Note to viewers, pay attention to the AIRFLOW DIRECTION printed on the filter side. Check as you remove old filter to see what direction the air flows (printed on side, but usually airflow is downward)
Peter, your videos have been very helpful with my Durango. I have a “problem “ with navigation audio changing from level I’ve set. I would like to know how to reset the default level so I don’t have to reset it each time I drive. It is just too loud and between each time I drive it resets itself. Hope you have an answer. Thanks
@@SuperPete276 it’s the one that opens automatically but as of now it doesn’t work and when you open it manually it won’t stay open might have to change the supporters.. I recently bought this Durango and it has some other details like the rear camera works very rare and the remote start won’t leave the truck on for more than 10 secs lol
From what I was reading about it and understand, there is no reset needed. System is smart enough to recognize the sensors, pair to them and continue monitor after tire change. Can you describe issue you having little more in detail?
Thanks for the help. My 2015 Citadel didn't have the glove box tabs it just came out when you pushed down on it. Was able to swap filters during a timeout watching NBA playoffs it was that fast.
It all depends on your environment, if you drive in the city, very little dust, dirt, you can do it once a year or even every other year, people in the country with gravel roads, farm areas can possibly need it replaced as often as once a year or even every oil change, it is very easy to pull it out and check, I check my every oil change and determine of it needs to be or not, always have on on the shelf to just plug new one in, next time you in Walmart, grab a replacement and have it ready to go
It is a good introduction video. but there is some prevention. I lost my soft open string by following the steps as per this video and not able to locate it. Adding this kind of prevention situation in the video will really help for dummies. Let me know if anyone able to locate this soft open string. Else I will end up paying more to get it fixed by professionals.
Attention: My first try (without video) I broke right nub off glove box. (2016 durango limited) Folks on Dodge durango forum have same issue. What worked for me was using a hair dryer to warm plastic inside and out on right side of glove box. Then first get the left nub out of catch. Then while squeezing inward on right side on glove box very hard use left hand to push the back plastic. This was the only way to clear the nub (I've glued back on) . Hope this helps, mine was much more tighter than video.
I do t think you did, take it out again and put it back together again, make sure bottom clips line up, u have to push in hard for them to ingage, you Shuld hear click sound
I understand it seems crazy to pay that much to change a filter. But in order to make that job profitable for a shop they have to make the time and space your vehicle takes turn a profit. They have so much overhead they simply CANNOT charge you their cost of the part plus charge by the minute for the job. There’s setup and cleanup and administration and billing; of course it’s much easier to make a large job profitable, but don’t be so shocked when this is 60$. Honestly most shops charge a flat 120$ fee to start ANYTHING including diagnostics where they just TELL you the problem. Once you’ve run your own business you’ll get it.
Hi Peter - I followed your video for changing the cabin air filter in the Durango. However, the glove compartment string on the right side disappeared (into the housing?). Do you / does anyone know how to get it out?
Put your finger in, you should be able to catching the loop, if not get a paperclip, make small hook out of it and fish it out. Yes it did happened to me too.
Peter Rebristy: thank you. I will do that. Last question: do you know what “hole” it went into specifically? I do not see the string at all. If it’s difficult to answer I understand. I appreciate your response. So frustrating to lose the string.
The Autonation Dodge place broke one of the Tabs that you push in the sides to clear them of the slots in order to get the glove box out. They were just checking it! Unauthorized. I went in for a P0027 code (Engine exhaust valve solenoid). They were going to charge me $49.95 for the filter. I said no. I bought a filter online that has the charcoal for $9.87 delivered! However, IF YOU SIMPLY SQUEEZE back of the glove box with your four fingers towards the front of the glove box door by having your thumb on the outer door, it flexes BOTH “ears” / tabs inward so much more and efficiently without the possibility of breaking them. Pushing in on the sides of my 2017 R/T box was incredibly stiff. That’s how they broke it at the dealership I’m sure. My box has a sound deadener coating on it all up the back and sides of the box that adds to the stiffness too I’ll bet. SO....... try the SQUEEZE action like I did and see if it doesn’t work better with less danger of damage.
Your lungs are worth $24 a year ($2/month) or go by replacing 12k to 15k miles ($160/100k miles @ $24/filter@every 15k)... Filters with carbon are best. It really depends on where u drive and if u have any breathing issues. If where u drive mostly has bad air quality go with carbon and replace every year or less. U want to have a filter that filters out less than 5microns if possible. I purchased a carbon filter which does 3microns. Hepa filters WITHOUT carbon, filter down to 0.3microns but restrict the amount of air flow and bothers some people. ONLY Carbon can filter odors/fumes/smoke (chemicals in the air).... just a lil info, lol
Thank. I just like to drive with window open if possible and I live in the country so pollution is not an issue and filter is really there to block thing from getting stock in the fan :), because most of the time windows open and nothing is filtering that. Appreciate your write-up.
Lorraine, you can always pull your cabin filter out and look at it. There are lots of factors in play here. Driving conditions, off road driving, gravel road, dust and dirt and all of that where you are located. Also how much you use your air system, like for example in mild climate areas some people like drive with windows open so your filter not used as much, other places you run ether AC or hear 24/7. Also your milage can come in play. Say I put 8-10K a year, other people do 20K, so your air system can run more/year or less. So to answer your question, check your filter once a year and decide for yourself.
Well, I just rolled 50K on it and I can't complain. No issues so far, and if I do I will post it immediately. This is my second DD, if you look at my first videos I had white 2014, two years owning it I got rear ended and totaled it, bought 2015DD and still happy.
Funny you noticed. Bad thing happened to white Durango, about year ago I got rear-ended by drunk driver, Durango got totaled, $25K worth of damage, I was at stand still and gut was booking 40 mi/h, but let me tell you this, I did not feel a thing, came out of car like nothing happened, wife was little bruised from seatbelt, just because she was facing me when that happened, but man, Nationwide took care of me fast, 5 days later I was in this new Durango you see on the video. Maybe in my next video I will share story and pictures of the accident.
I always thought this is just a gimmick for car makers and filter makers. we walk around all day in unfiltered air yet we have to try and filter air in a non air tight environment for the time we are in a car . Stupid . We lived from the model T days until maybe 10 years ago without one . Just another maintenance item you don't need .

best Durango glove box removal video I have seen yet for these model years.

Thank you! My dealer wanted $165 for replacing my cabin air filter.

When do you recommend to change the Cabin filter (at a certain mileage)?
I change it once a year, unless you drive allot of dirt/gravel roads.
Pretty much all cars advise replacing the cabin air filter every 20000 miles or once every two years.
