      Erika, I see patients with injuries from stretches like these, including from yoga because they have poor form or they are simply not good for the body. The demonstrations were showing how most people perform these stretches, even in a class.
      With good and careful instruction, yoga is wonderful. However, even with good form, these are the most common stretches I see cause issues.

    Thank you Dr. Used to do the calf stretch and caused me pain in ligaments. Now using your alternative, lot better.

    This is so helpful. I hurt my back doing a forward fold and it's never been the same. I fear all forward bending and have lost mobility. I am working on it with your help. Thank you.

    Thanks doc ! Adding this to the stretch video(s) I have saved you produced. Still working on my flexibility. Tightness is still in my inner left thigh and both hips. Feels as if I may have aggravated my groin. Using both ice and heat. Still sore and tight.

    Great tips thank you. It’s all about stretching the right way. As you said some do it the wrong way especially the shoulder stretch.

      @@drkristieennis I keep a small fluffy double folded bathroom mat by my bedside, when I wake up it’s the first thing I step on, since I play outdoor basketball and ping pong, it helps line up my body when I stand on it. Your workouts and exercises are very inspiring because you explain. I just subscribed.

    That last foot exercise that you said not to do is one that a physical therapist told me to do when I had plantar fasciitis. I'm going to try your stretch instead since I am still having foot issues.

    Hurdler stretch I did at karate class years ago...awful. A side thought most of my coworkers can't touch their toes! I can palm the floor. Good info Doc.

    I forced the first stretch for about a month on a yoga program and my right knee suddenly got terrible pain. My hips are locked. I can not sit on a crossed leg position any more. I search around your videos to recover back. Thank you for the wonderful videos. The most helpful ones on the net. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    If these were yoga postures, none of them (aka “worst stretches”) were done correctly.

      Well I think these are how most of us are taught in Physical Education to my understanding the better way is to incorporate the breath and chakras. I think both systems treat the body differently with different goals

      My goal with this video was to point out stretches that so many people either do incorrectly or just aren’t great on the body.
      Yoga is it’s own practice and style and is hopefully being led by a qualified instructor, which makes a significant difference.
