People tend to forget Stevie had multiple tones. That’s like saying “Hendrix tone” it’s Hendrix like because of his specific amps, pick size and attack, finger pressures, movements, and splaying style. Low wound pickups (scooped mids) with heavy supporting bass are Hendrix/SRV/Sayce/Trower/Etc…
Well, my two cents are that MF's sound muffled on the clean and bright articulated riffs that don't need the mid boost "drive". The J1's win because they do the cleans better. But when you add the tube screamer mid boost they sound just right. Which is what Stevie did. When he wanted the pure cleans, the Tube screamer was off. When he wanted the mid boost thickness, the Tube Screamer was on! I think that when you add the fuzz face, that would also carry through, turn your volume knob down and the J1's clean will still be there. The original Fender pickups, both 50's and 60's version were never meant to be " hot" pickups", for Stevie, the Tube Screamer did that for him, and well then there is the fuzz face! We all know what it is used for! The best volume pedal in the world!
No contest the Mark Foley's win imho - across all 5 positions to my ear and against pretty much every riff you played. That said, Jesse Davey makes awesome pedals/products but to my taste, Mark Foley is definitely the better pickup winder between the two and the clear winner here. Nice demo and thanks for sharing!
The mark Foley pickups all day... they're thumping in the lower mids and bottom but with the added percussiveness... it's big but very clear just like SRV tone was.... the bluebirds get the lows down but it's relatively muddy in the neck lacking clarity in the lower mids compared to the mark foleys which are clear all the way through without sounding thin.
Complimenti Diego! Sei sempre bravissimo! Quindi in definitiva dipende cosa cerchiamo. Grazie Diego!
Lone stars have more output so you can hear a small bump in the overall volume what makes one tends to prefer them. IMO Foley's are hotter with more sparkle and tighter bass response. Great comparison, thanks.
Congrats Diego !!! It's a great pickup contest ! If I have to say what pickup set fits better to SRV tone the choice is doubtless on KINGTONE Bluebird J1 ! According to my ears Bluebird J1set gots all the right frequencies that made Stevie great, I mean a wide and huge neck tone, a balanced mid pickup and all the "meat" on bridge, it's Big like Texas ! MARK FOLEY's Lone Star it's a great set and I love it but needs more bite to be last SRV choice ! I think those pickups are well voiced and balanced with right frequencies and a bit compressed ! Lone Star are British pickups and to me fit well on Gilmourish tones, isn't it ? 👑👑👑🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥
I have the blue-birds J1 and the MF BigironLowWinds. I swapt out the bluebirds for the iron low wind because they sound so good when you do that shuffle thing. Very tight bass response. AND SPARK. 👍🏻
I think if you set the Bluebirds up a little higher, both pickups would sound almost the same. I have the Bluebirds and had Foley’s SRV #1 set. Both great. Best out there.
This is the thing is pickups are going to sound different in other guitars so you really going to have to try them out on your own and see which ones perform better for the sound you want. Also on clean channel with no pedals either
Sounded similar to me until the Riff section where I started to notice the MF Lone Star's Bass response surpassing the Kingtone in an obvious way. Both are great sets. I would pay a little more for the Lone Star's.
Lone Star sounds more aggressive, especially the in-between sounds. Hard to tell in a RUclips video, but I think I would go with Lone Star if I was looking for SRV sound.
What Guitar are you playing, and Amp? 'Wind Cries Mary' Bluebird sounded better, apart from that they're both very close. MF Lone Star edging it...I think.
I've hand Foley's SRV stagger , Zexcoils , Pribora , Domingers , Fenders , and tbh there's nothing special about any of them , all I've got now are pickups out of a Classic Vibe which sound pretty much like all the others .
Both are nice, not sure it matters if you have the chops… the Foleys sound closer to SRV, neither are his tone though… Either set is probably better than 99% of players ability to use them… Very few people can play those licks and just like SRV they get tones out of whatever they have in their hands..
So weird. The blue birds sound better in positions 1, 3, 5. The Mark Foley sounds so much better in the two in four positions though. Which set do you prefer
None really "sound" like SRV😂. But they're really good pickups, just different from one another. Which one do you prefer? Nice comparison video! You should do more like this. Great fun!

I’d love to see a comparison with the Slider 59 SRV pickups too.
Same here man. People rarely talk about his pickups but I think they’re the best srv style out there
I didnt know they exist, thank you so much.
You play so good that I don‘t care which pickups are better👍🍀
Thank you so much 😊🤟🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

Both sound amazing. The J1 seems to have a rounder low end esp apparent in Riff 5. I have the BILW by Mark Foley and theyre really sound great.
😊🎸thx

they sound great both :) thx
Give me the Lone Star pickups in the neck and bridge position and the chunky chewy fat middle pickup from the Kingtone set.
both sound amazing.. I just purchased the J1s. Im building a strat from the ground up.
great ! :) thx
Damn nice Hendrix riff! I forgot to pay attention to the pickup differences😂
😃😃thx 🤟🎸
Yes, the Lone Star's are slightly 'glassier'. Especially the Middle PU colors perfectly in.
What are your thoughts on the Fender vintage 1959 pickups for a SRV tone?
Great comparison in the same axe, very useful and well done, thank you a lot, they are so different side to side …
I have the blue-birds J1 and the MF BigironLowWinds. I swapt out the bluebirds for the iron low wind because they sound so good when you do that shuffle thing. Very tight bass response.
AND SPARK. 👍🏻
Thanks for putting this together. I went with the KingTone J1s. To my ears they hit the "mark" better.. see what I did there? 😅😅
I think if you set the Bluebirds up a little higher, both pickups would sound almost the same. I have the Bluebirds and had Foley’s SRV #1 set. Both great. Best out there.
thx :)
they both sound great not much between them .Have you got "the duelist" from kingtone ? my favourite pedal
Great job man I would be happy with either. The lone star has more shape to higher notes. Blue bird got a better low end to my ear.
That should say Snap to the higher notes.
Jesse Davey’s Bluebird J1 pickups capture the SRV tone. Mark Foley’s pickups are definitely the winner. The Bluebirds lack mode in the neck position.
The Lonestars are my favorite of these two choices. Both are great.. just depends on the application.
😊🤟🤟🤟🎸🎸🎸thanks
I can tell you I've player many strats.the Kingtone bluebird ones are what I use.flawless.
Grazie mille Vito 😊🤟🤩🙏🎸
@@DiegoLeanza ma dove si comprano
@@vitocastiglione7709 in Italia li ha 440hz
Got the MF,havent used em yet waiting on the number one guitar to use it with.
But wich do you prefer?
J1s seem to have a deeper scoop, little more higher mids and highs?

Bellissimi entrambi, bel video bro!
grazieeeee bro :)

Bluebirds all day. Incredible pickups.
🎸
Killer tone and playing! How do these sets compare with the Smitty pickups (64 blues and 59)?
Thank you 😊 never compared on the same guitar
Which one do you prefer?
Nice comparison! MF seem to have more overall presence. Which is your favourite?
Impossibile decidere. Entrambi stupendi
Eheheh scelta difficile 😃🎸🎸🤟
@@DiegoLeanza e poi suonati in quel modo sono tantissima roba👍😉
What amp are they being played through?. Like both sets. Band of Gypsys riff killer riff.
The price is the same, so why didn’t king tone didn’t cut the price in half?
Lone Star sounds more aggressive, especially the in-between sounds. Hard to tell in a RUclips video, but I think I would go with Lone Star if I was looking for SRV sound.
They both sound great, the Foleys sound like they break up quicker
👍👍😊
KINGTONE Bluebird for me.
Another way to look at it is... the bluebirds sound like his recorded tone more compressed.... the mark Foleys sound like his live tone
MARK FOLEY Lone Star+1

Pos 2 lonestar
Pos 3 Bluebird
Pos 4 bluebird
Pos 5 lonestar (more output?)

Can’t tell which one is better because you are half assing playing one of them.😂
No this is no SRV tone
