This was my first Sleep Token song, and I first heard it while watching another reacter and I wasn't quite on board with the song, like I enjoyed parts of it but the transitions had me a little eh (I've never been one for prog metal in the past haha), and I was in the middle of writing a comment about my thoughts when the funk-breakdown came in and LITERALLY rewired my brain and I was sold on Sleep Token, immediately listened to Chokehold, and the next evening I listened to the entirety of Sundowning and This Place Will Become Your Tomb. I feel like if they came back with a typical metal breakdown after that chill section, it would have been GOOD and I probably would have gone "huh, that's cool" but not immediately check them out further. the funk breakdown was... perfect? ethereal? masterful? all of the above? just... the funk breakdown was SO BOLD, and the smartest most galaxy-brained decision. Worship.

When someone in the skateboarding or surfing or another extreme action sport says that a trick is gnarly, they mean that it was very difficult, usually very dangerous, and overall very cool. If they say that a skatepark or street spot is gnarly, they mean that it’s dangerous, and that it requires a lot of courage to attempt. 🛹 If a music fan says that a song or part of a song was gnarly, they usually mean that it was heavy, loud, gritty, and that they really enjoyed it. So it can either be neutral, good, bad, or good. Anglais est stupide…oui, je sais.
