Has to be the most amazing building i have ever seen. The pure effort... time.. blood sweat and tears that has gone into this is incredable for something constructed this day in age.
Someone would HAVE to be a little off their rocker to spend 41 years building a home-made castle by hand. It's good seeing there's still people alive and kicking strong left in this world!
spiring individual. He is a great and wise man that should matter as much as Elway or Armstrong.I couldnt give a shit less about Elway.Jim Bishop is a true American.
This is probably one of the best places to visit in Colorado! He has done alot more work to it since this video. If you ever go to Colorado you should check it out.....
I live about 4 or 5 hours away from there and have visted about 5 times. It's really amazing, but scary in some parts lol. Each time I go back he has a new addition to the castle. The last time I was there was about 3 years ago, and he was digging a moat all by himself. I wonder what else he has done to it thus far.
Btw, been there a dozen times over the last 35 years and at least Jim is consistent. He is right about most of what he says, however offensive it comes across.
This is a interesting video. As a card carrying democrat and a social worker its my duty to tell you we should tax the hell out of this man to get services for people less fortunate. As a person of the USA I say let the man build his castle, it is ar t that will live on forever. This brings beauty to Colorado and should never be taxed.
No, joysof life, he's alot crazy (-: but ya gotta admire his strength and perseverance. It's amazing to me what a human can accomplish if they are truely dedicated to something. If all people were this dedciated to their cause we wouldn't have half the social problems in the world, but then we'd probably all be on Haldol....LOL
I saw him on Fox tonight and got a few good laughs, then I looked further and saw that they only tried to slander his name. Sure he's crazy with trying to kill a bride and chasing people in his Bobcat and all, but he's still a human, and I bet he only does those things to scare off closeminded people. In my opinion, he is a truly in
If you do anything in that castle, you do so at your own risk, clearly stated in any of the signs. If it looks unsafe, don't do it. It's a free attraction with tons of signage to warn you, so don't do it and nothing to cry about
9:16 now theres a true man and his kingdom. no other way of explaining it. and any man/woman/child would agree that this man deserves every bit of that land.
We are stockpiling bargain supplies for an ICF castle build next year.. much faster and stronger and can be finished any way you like. We plan to move in late next year. Google Insulated Concrete Forms
@vanaukentim Why? Is he hurting you or someone? the man is an artist and has intelligence that perhaps you don't value, but who are you to judge his freedom?
Said with the class and elegance that I've come to expect from you. Be careful with your assumptions however. When you assume you make an ass out of 'u' and 'me' 1. I'm a man 2. I'm a married man 3. I'm a married man with a child on the way. Contrast that with you, who probably lives in his parent's basement and plays World of Warcraft 16 hours per day.
You sound a little sue happy and not willing to take responsibility for your CHOICES, if what he did was against the law he'd be in jail, pretty clean safety record up there, you ever heard of any accidents, his son's death was not in the castle either. I use to live in Pueblo, never heard nothing about injuries or what not, it is very sound structure wise and he builds all iron staircases and what not at his shop which is his trade, like I said don't go up if you can't agree it's at your risk
so then you could say that about anyone who built any building, and most people who climb the castle do so of their own FREE will, no one forces them, you could die driving to the store, gonna find someone to blame for that too
Stop calling the guy crazy. He speaks about what he believes using language and isn't hurting anyone. I'm so tired of people valuing their own idea of intelligence over others. This man has different priorities, does he come over to your house and tell you wrong crazy? no.
Jim would like to know if put swastika on top or comunist star .Jim for sure will never hang on castle star of dAVID. Jim will one day meet Roy at the door of heaven .That day Jim will be rewarded by something he drems of whole life . Until then ,Jim will be strong and full of energy
Wrong. Architects and engineers are taught from their first day that people's lives are in their hands. Its an important responsibility to build something like a building. As for the car example, it depends--did the car crash because of driver error or because there was something inherently wrong with the design of the car? If the car crashed for no other reason than because the designer didn't know what he was doing, you bet your a** I'll be blaming him for the accident.
I can guarantee you in 100 years nobody will remember who you are and someone out there will remember this guy and his castle. But yeah he's a little off.
Now I'm at a loss for what you're trying to say You're going to have to get your niece check your posts from now on, because your illiteracy is so profound that I can't even understand you...
I have my doubts that you'll ever understand. People as thick as you never get it until things go wrong (when you yell, "Why didn't anyone warn us!?!?") Despite your obvious ignorance, I'll try one more time. Do you realize the number of regulations that exist on cars? They have to have seat belts. They have to have air bags. They have to have (insert regulation here). Yet somehow I do not see you supporting the legal marketing of a car w/o those things (even if its the customers "choice")...
If you want to look at it that way, knock yourself out. Just know that waivers (physical and implied) generally do not hold up in court in situations such as this. I stand by my original comment--if something goes wrong and people die, he will be remembered as an irresponsible individual whose recklessness cost people their lives. If what he's doing is not against the law, I'm sure it will be when catastrophe strikes.
Jim Bishop has done so much. I've been going to that castle since '92. Keep going Jim.
Has to be the most amazing building i have ever seen. The pure effort... time.. blood sweat and tears that has gone into this is incredable for something constructed this day in age.
I just went there and the castle is just truly amazing. I talked to Jim and hes an awsome guy.
I've been there several times throughout my life, and I strongly believe that this man and his work are an inspiration.
thank you Jim for this beautiful piece of art! very much appreciated!
...and FOOTBALL!!!!! Love it, Jim, classic stuff.
Thank you Jim
I come from germany and i've seen this yesterday on TV . How wonderful is this !! I like to see this ..it must be excited !!!
I truly enjoyed this film, the man is extreamly intellegent and knows what he is talking about. Plus he is a great creater,
We need more humans like this man,
Someone would HAVE to be a little off their rocker to spend 41 years building a home-made castle by hand. It's good seeing there's still people alive and kicking strong left in this world!
I love it. Totally amazing building, and awesome individuality. this is what is most exciting about humans.
This guy is more sane than we ever will be.
spiring individual. He is a great and wise man that should matter as much as Elway or Armstrong.I couldnt give a shit less about Elway.Jim Bishop is a true American.
It's amazing what you can do when you have persistence, energy and too much time on your hands
This guy is completely off his damn rocker.
And completely fucking right in every single way.
love him... all i can say.
This is probably one of the best places to visit in Colorado! He has done alot more work to it since this video. If you ever go to Colorado you should check it out.....
This guy is amazing.
This man is a true American.
This guy is NUTS!
I like him.
Holy crap! That's not what I expected at all!
Great Job!
The look on the people's face when he goes on a rant is hilarious.
Btw, been there a dozen times over the last 35 years and at least Jim is consistent. He is right about most of what he says, however offensive it comes across.
@ 1:43 I like the way this guy thinks.
this guy just died , rest in peace.
"I want to see how long I can live, and what I can build with my hands."
"Shit, shower, shave, shine and shampoo." Words to live by.
this guy is so badass in his own way, but a little psychotic. GO JIM!!
A little crazy, but great construction project
Great video, dakedog. My band recorded a song about Jim Bishop, it'll be out later this year.
Indeed....
i have met him he is nuts but cool after that video.

i met him he's cool as hell
No, joysof life, he's alot crazy (-: but ya gotta admire his strength and perseverance. It's amazing to me what a human can accomplish if they are truely dedicated to something. If all people were this dedciated to their cause we wouldn't have half the social problems in the world, but then we'd probably all be on Haldol....LOL
You're wrong! I just seen him at his castle & we visited on May 5th. He's doing quite well & still pissed off!
I saw him on Fox tonight and got a few good laughs, then I looked further and saw that they only tried to slander his name. Sure he's crazy with trying to kill a bride and chasing people in his Bobcat and all, but he's still a human, and I bet he only does those things to scare off closeminded people. Yeah you tell them buddy ,,, : )
9:16 now theres a true man and his kingdom. no other way of explaining it. and any man/woman/child would agree that this man deserves every bit of that land.

While you're at it, ask her about basic capitalization rules.

Citation needed.

@vanaukentim Why? Is he hurting you or someone? the man is an artist and has intelligence that perhaps you don't value, but who are you to judge his freedom?
You once again avoid denying that you live with your parents.
Said with the class and elegance that I've come to expect from you.
Be careful with your assumptions however. When you assume you make an ass out of 'u' and 'me'
1. I'm a man
2. I'm a married man
3. I'm a married man with a child on the way.
Contrast that with you, who probably lives in his parent's basement and plays World of Warcraft 16 hours per day.
Took you a while to muster up the courage to write that lie :)
You sound a little sue happy and not willing to take responsibility for your CHOICES, if what he did was against the law he'd be in jail, pretty clean safety record up there, you ever heard of any accidents, his son's death was not in the castle either. I notice that you did not deny play World of Warcraft 16 hours per day; nor did you deny living in your parent's basement for that matter...
so then you could say that about anyone who built any building, and most people who climb the castle do so of their own FREE will, no one forces them, you could die driving to the store, gonna find someone to blame for that too
he could have saved a lot of time & money if minecraft was invented earlier
Stop calling the guy crazy. He speaks about what he believes using language and isn't hurting anyone. I'm so tired of people valuing their own idea of intelligence over others. This man has different priorities, does he come over to your house and tell you wrong crazy? no.

You should see what he says about politics
Wrong. Architects and engineers are taught from their first day that people's lives are in their hands. Its an important responsibility to build something like a building.

I hope he didnt fall and brake open his chicken McNugget.
This guy is out of his fucking mind. Nuts as hell. They should lock him up and throw away the key.
typical nerd response
Waste of life.
I can guarantee you in 100 years nobody will remember who you are and someone out there will remember this guy and his castle. But yeah he's a little off.
