    Ok, Ok let me just put this disclaimer out there and up front. If you don't like this kind of pattern please just go to one of my other videos, there are plenty on the channel. Please feel free to leave your opinion in the comments below, I always do my best to answer all your comments.
    The simple fact of the matter is that these have their place in my fly boxes, it was never my intent to do a tutorial on the squirmy but as I say in the video I had some time on my hands this week. When a river is high and dirty often earth worms are ripped from the bank-side and become fair game for hungry fish, Trout and Grayling love this!. This pattern is a reasonable representation of that.
    So, fly fishing or not let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

    Absolutely no problem with people being innovative and using new materials to good effect. The advance in fly tying materials is fantastic and flytyers are quite right to explore their potential. Personally I would have no qualms about trying it. People used to say the same about the booby, and it saved many a blank for me.

      Agreed, wouldn't be without the booby on a big Stillwater.

    Ha ha ha... nicely done Lindsay! I’ve had friends rake me over the coals telling me “euro-nymphing” isn’t fly fishing. Like you I think do what you enjoy. My biggest problem with the squrimy material is the durability. Mine fall apart after six months or so.

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  3 года назад +1

      I find they work well in the winter months, other than that not so much. As far as Euro-nymphing goes if its good enough for the best fly fishermen and women in the world its good enough for me.

    • @thomashebson6039
      @thomashebson6039 3 года назад

      Don’t use any varnish with the squirmy material, it will eventually fall apart. I have squirmy worms in my fly box from several years ago & are still like new.

    great tutorial, Lyndsay. "not really fly tying"? this is where fly fishing and jig fishing merge definitions! great looking fly (lure???) another debate is whether Czech nymphing is fly fishing no fly line used?! we love a good argument!🤣👍👍

  • @brendanharkin7231
    @brendanharkin7231 3 года назад +2

    That is a deadly looking pattern. Going to tie a few to try out at the local fishery. I would expect this do to well during the winter for the deep feeders. Fly tying materials have evolved during the years and so have the patterns. If a pattern is allowed on my local fishery then I will fish it. I have no problem with the purists who want to remain with traditional patterns and materials. There is room in this great sport for all of us but innovation in tackle and techniques is essential - George Skues is an example of someone who did this. ProTackle have all the elements required.

    • @lindsayiflyfish
