- This week, we finish out the EPIC interview with Jimmy Spencer … and right off the bat, we dive into the rounds that he had with Kurt Busch. He then goes BACK in time to a run-in that he had with Hickory hometown heroes Dale Jarrett, DJ’s daddy Ned AND NASCAR. We conclude the interview talking about his sister Chrissy, and the impact her passing had on his life.
I worked security at Charlotte, he is telling the truth. Always talked to us, I just ran into Mr, Spencer at Charlotte Autofair and he introduced me to Mr, Spraker to help build my troyer modified.
I love this man. True American Legend
"Jimmy Spencer doesn't forget" NASCAR will never have another Mr. Excitement & Cup drivers will probably not be racing beaters in a junkyard anytime soon. Thanks Jimmy
Nope because all these “young guns” are so P.C. Because they don't wanna piss anyone off.
He will forever be in my heart one of the best people to grip a steering wheel, sure he only got 2 wins in his entire Cup career but he was such a great racer, and a great person from what I've heard. He's put such an impression on me that I've started a fantasy championship series on my channel in NASCAR Thunder 2003 with him
i miss the nascar of old...
thanks for the memories....
'mr.excitement'
Always a fan and love jimmy. Hof soon and loved his dale jr episode and listening to him. Hey Spencer, I was on the backstretch at your dega win. Legend!!!!
Best three interviews y'all have done. If life was real, y'all would win a Pulitzer if that was really about journalism.
This was a great interview!!! Thanks for the awesome job guys!!! Jimmy Spencer is the man!! NASCAR needs personalities like Spencer, Earnhardt, Wallace and Schrader so badly now a days! That's how the fans will come back!!
Say what you want about Jimmy Spencer. The thing I will always remember about him came from back in ‘95. I was in Daytona for speedweeks and left the track a few hours after the 125s on Thursday. Heading back to the hotel we stopped at a either Publix or Winn Dixie at a shopping center to pick a few things up. They had a show car deal all set up and a few drivers where there doing autographs. The thing that stuck out the most was there was Jimmy next to Smokin Joes #23 show car with a line of fans there too see him. He was a nice as anyone there and talked to them and was in no hurry to move anyone along. To me that was a big deal considering a few hours earlier he was a DNQ for the 500 on Sunday. He never let on it was an issue but you know that was probably the last place he wanted to be and of course having to considering he had people asking him about the race on Sunday.
True character to the fans and his sponsor that day and unfortunately that is not seen nearly as much as it should be nowadays.
Jimmy, you are a true racer as was your buddy Earnhardt Sr. Live long and prosper
The way I would remember spencer is “he was a racers racer!!!”
I love these pod cast can you do some more with Jimmy? I think somebody should write a book about all of the racing Spencers including Jimmy's dad and uncles.
Uncensored? Yes, Please!
More of this! Such an entertaining interview
Agree with him or not, Spencer is a great personality that modern racing is missing.
Thanks For Uploading Rick and Steve Your Are The Man ☺
Great to have Spencer on! I love the stories. However, I do feel like a lot of his stories have changed a tad from the truth lol. I watched the highlights of the 1989 hickory Busch race. I do agree that it was a “racing deal” between Spencer and Jarrett. He did run all over Jeff Burton and spin him out with a few laps to go as well. So it’s not surprising that NASCAR thought he had done it on purpose. Overall I think Spencer will be remembered for his competitiveness and not backing down. He was a racer through and through.
Same School your fans come from say what you think, mean what you say and be a man say sorry when your wrong. I will always be a fan of yours Jimmy.
11:00 and 23:36 I have no idea why, but I frickin lost it when Jimmy was mimicking Robert Black!!
Oh, and between this and his appearance on the Dale Jr. Download, it seems like almost everyone was a “No good SOB” for Jimmy. 😂😂
Bullshit is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are. Jimmy needs to come up for air.
Absolute gold.
Jimmy was one of my favorite's
Jimmy Spencer reminds me of Meatloaf.
Jimmy's a guy I could see myself being friends with. He tells it like he sees it. Maybe a bit too honest for his own good sometimes, but he's got a good heart. Helluva wheelman too
The guy's a gem.
Wow he sounds just like Chris Farley. Hilarious
"Allen Beswick"Was that the NBC Reporter Jimmy was speaking of????
Hate to say it, but you guys have a way better podcast than Dale Jr. Junior really only talks about things in relation to his own experiences, memories, or proximity to his father. You guys let the drivers talk and tell their stories without trying to put your own spin on it. I like that
Jimmy Spencer never forgets that we show up to win races.
Sport just ain’t the same as it was when guys like jimmy were running
You're a class act guy Jimmy! And one heck of a driver! 🏁🏆(my dad Vic Kangas was crew chief for you in 1995)💗
He’s entertaining but I don’t really believe half what he says. He says he was gonna win every race he was is in, when he was rarely competitive
Robert Black also screwed Kenny Wallace out of 2 wins because he didn't like Rusty.
Competition 🤔
Jerk then. Jerk now.
Lulluujuuu
They lost their way with political correctness apparently they don't know their fan base oops what a miscalculation
What a trainwreck....
That trainwreck made more out of shit than you could gold.
Ah yes cause I’m sure you are managing your life oh so well
I'm the best there ever was or will be but even I can't win em all
Jimmy you are fuckin awesome I truly wish i was your friend loved the entire interview cant wait to show my dad hes gonna love it!! if youre ever in Kentucky stop by and have a cold one with me and my dad I know yall would seriously be best friends lol Hope to hear from ya one day man!! And Rick and Steve you guys come on too and keep up the great work love the channel !!
He is definitely one of those guys that you have to take anything he says with a grain of salt. So much salt in these interviews!!
83 years old and worked for RJ Reynolds, must not of used the product?
Jimmy is a great guy.
I met him and his dad when he first started racing modifieds.
My dad’s best friend was his engine guy back then.
I watched him race more times than I can count at shangrila speedway in owego,n.y.
Mr excitement is a true racer I he raced in Monadnock speedway NH. in the early 1980's. I knew then he was a special racer.
Never had the pleasure of meeting Spencer, worked with his nephew one time. He sponsored him in the busch north series for a bit. His day job was pumping concrete. Down to earth, hardworking folks...
Great interview. Thanks Mr. Spencer.
I enjoyed all 3 parts of Jimmy Spencer. One of my favorites. I met Jimmy when I was a kid at the K mart here in Martinsville Va. He was driving the #23 Smokey Joe car. As he was signing my poster he said "Let me tell you something kid don't ever start smoking cigarettes they are bad for you." Always respected him. I think if Jimmy could have gotten better car to drive he would have been a Cup Champion. I would love to meet Jimmy again to talk him.
Great content! Please get Tommy Ellis on here!
Jimmy the old never was has been!!!
I have a Home Depot hard hat Jimmy he singed at Phoenix race track years ago
He might not have won a lot of races, but he brought personality to the sport. He and others made it fun. Unfortunately guys like this will never be back. Great interview!
Thank you guys for this Jimmy Spencer interview you need to get back with him. I have been watching racing since around 1953-54 at the old Myrtle Beach race track. I rarely watch the NASCAR races anymore. I made a list of the NASCAR mistakes years ago. The first was trying to go national and forgetting their roots. One of their other mistakes was going to all of the nite races. They lost a lot of the local fans by doing that you cannot stay up half the night and make it to work on Monday morning. NASCAR had already lost me when they started taking grand stands down. 83,000 seats in daytona and everything they had just installedd in Charlotte. Ended up with around 1/3 of the seats nation wide. If I remember correctly my list had around 5 or 6 things that they did that they had done at that time. I still turn to the races just to see how empty the grand stands are today. Back in the old days we had around 7 tracks within 60 miles of our house. Did you ever see a 1/4 mile track lined up for half the track for the main event. That was the good old days. I have never done stick and ball sports but I do watch anything that has an engine in it. Thanks for the pod cast with these older people from racing When was the last time you heard of Curtis Turner, Crawfish Crider, Dink Widenhouse?
Jimmy Spencer, was a great driver, blue collar man, although his story wouldn.t be the same,I wish he could have had the equipment that he deserved.
Im a fan of the old school characters when it comes to NASCAR .
I have no interest in the soap opera It has become, famous drivers with no driving skills.
I love people like Jimmy, as real as it gets!
I never thought much of him as a racer or a announcer, all mouth
Always liked Jimmy and thank him for straightening out Kurt Busch's attitude all those years ago
I love Jimmy Spencer, but this is the documented truth:
Yeah Dale Earnhardt flipped off Kurt Busch. Dale died that day before he could tell the story....
Jimmy Spencer straight up wrecked Kurt at Phoenix late 2001....
Kurt Busch moved Spencer at Bristol the next year
Spencer straight up dumped Kurt at Indy at 200 mph...
Kurt did call Spencer a 'decrepit-has been' at Indy.
After that lord knows what happened.
The only thing I will say about Dale flipping Kurt off at Daytona in 2001 because I had the same thought because that was shown on TV. Obviously Jimmy and Dale could not of talked about that. However, Kurt did have 7 starts in 2000 driving the 97 John Deere car. I feel like I remember incident during those seven races where Kurt flipped Dale off, but I’d have to go back and look. So it is possible Dale and Kurt could’ve had a little on track incident and maybe not even shown on tv during that time and Dale and Jimmy could have talked about it.
@@1985jcapone true
Jimmy Spencer is correct. They will never get me back as a fan. They grew tired of the real fan and started chasing the glam crowd.
NASCAR needs the manufacturers to be involved again. This will not happen if they are forced to make all their cars look the same. Go back to the "Win on Sunday sell cars on Monday" model. The manufacturers will return and the old school fans will follow.
Jimmys right about the fan base and what NASCAR has become....they are losing fans and the "new" way is going to kill if not already has killed the sport!
Spencer might be a dumba$$ but he was one of the few drivers that I could go to a race and watch him exclusively until he broke his car, one of the most entertaining drivers ever to strap on a race car, loved to watch the D.A.
I like Spence. Miss him on tv. Dale Jr had him on dirty mo and Spence was like yea, I did that. I said that.
AHHAHA Jimmy gives really good interviews funny 👦 guy
Jimmy Spencer never forgets. And he didn't.
Awesome interview Jimmy Specer your the man
Jimmy Spencer you don't Damn God and then turn around and say he's blessed you Sir
"black haired guy"=Dave Burns?
Love Spence, you just can't replace a guy like him & that's very unfortunate for the sport of Stockcar Racing 😕
Jimmy Spencer is so full of it. He has so much BS in his interviews that I am sure of that I cannot believe anything else he says which may actually be true. He keeps throwing Earnhardt’s name out there, taking about conversations they had. Jimmy says the Earnhardt talk to him about Kurt Busch flipping him off. That happened in the 2001 Daytona 500 in which Earnhardt died. That conversation never happened. There are a lot of other stories that Spencer tells in these interviews as well as those with Dale Jr in which either Spencer is the only person alive who can confirm it or the other person involved says it did. It happen that way. In the Dale Jr podcast, Spencer’s former PR man had a constant look on his face that he cannot believe all his BS, and he even called out Spencer a couple of times.
First Dale flipped Kurt off at Daytona in 2001 not Kurt flipping off Dale. that was shown on TV.
And who’s to say Dale and Jimmy weren’t friends? Where you there? Can only take him at had word. That’s just your fandom opinion not wanting them to be friends because you didn’t like Jimmy. That’s fine. They knew each other since 1979 and raced against each every week for the better part of 12 years. So yes I’m sure they were friends. Haven’t heard anything different.. other than Jimmy calling out Dale for not showing up to the Winston Cup preview in 2001
@@1985jcapone What happened in 2000 was Kurt spun Dale Jr at Rockingham. Not on purpose, clearly misjudged it and wrecked him. Jr went back out and tried to wreck the 97 car, but Nascar told him to calm down before he could get there. Two races later, Dale Sr wanted to teach him a lesson and ran about 2/3 of the race behind Kurt, not giving him any breathing room and ultimately passed him, if I remember correctly. But Kurt never flipped him off, that's absolutely false. Freaking Spencer 🤦
@@jonathanvallee-grenier4288 That sounds about right Dale running behind Kurt when he could’ve passed him to get on his nerves. However Kurt could have been flipping Dale off from in the car. Just because it wasn’t shown on TV does it mean it didn’t happen. TV cameras were in a slick back then and certainly didn’t have cameras on every car. That’s all I’m saying
@@1985jcapone Well maybe John, that would not surprise me either coming from the younger version of Kurt 😂
Funny thing about it I know Jimmy Spencer name but I don't know yours so I'm gonna assume you're the authority on bullshit let's go in to history the said mention personally could have been brought up on charges for his behavior on multiple occasions DWI Domestic violence isn't the values that most stand bye. Don't have a dog in this fight but choosing sides is not a option
