The campy and over the top props makes this a fun performance to watch. The best part is the final song, the gorgeous costume, floating in the air and of course the fireworks.
The Superb Owl halftime show is all about spectacle. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to play this gig. You can argue all day about vocals and bullshit like that but the fact remains that if you’re one of those people you couldn’t do what any performer who has done. I remember I was a senior in high school when this Super Bowl happened! One of the best! I come back here to get inspiration while on my own journey to greatness and following Katy’s journey through all these years is amazing to see. She worked hard for these moments. I get goosebumps and a bit teary eyed at the end when she lifts up her arms it was like a moment of wow I made! Always will be a fan of Katy and her work ethic! About the lion: The lion was 16 feet high, 26 feet long & weighed 1600 pounds. It took about 7 weeks to build/complete the lion. It was built/constructed in Oregon. When it was completed, it was loaded onto a flatbed, covered with a huge canvas tent and then hauled (in one big giant piece) 900 miles to Los Angeles. The trip took 23 hours. The drivers of the flatbed had to sign non-disclosure agreements that they would not tell anyone about the lion. In Los Angeles, the 11 puppeteers (men who made the legs move) rehearsed their movements over 40 times in a 2-week span. From _there,_ the lion was transported 6 hours away to the actual field in Arizona where the Super Bowl was going to be played. The puppeteers rehearsed for a week. Katy was lifted up to the lions' back, via a rolling staircase. When she finished the song, she got down off of the lion by sliding down a pole.

I as wondering myself how much that "thingy" cost! I read the story on the web. Her creative partner, Halpern, said he wouldn't disclose the cost but....it was reasonable enough considering everything! It's made by the same guys that made the animals in the Broadway show The Lion King.... For the lion, Katy wanted a look like "folded origami". Hence the many angled panels on the lion. It had to be light enough to be moved across the stage by the guys in black at the base floor and sturdy enough to hold up, especially with Katy riding on its back. Halpern said they kept it hidden under black tents for weeks right up until the performance started. And there was one thing he hadn't considered at all when he thought up the idea. If the sun hadn't gone down when Katy was to perform! The sunlight would have ruined the whole golden reflection of the beast. And it seemed like there was still light minutes before the show! Then a miracle happened in the 2nd quarter and the game play prolonged a little and allowed the sun to completely set. Halpern said they made it into darkness by 25 seconds! Interesting story! But you have to admit it was a real cool idea and that lion is beautiful! Just wondering what they did with it and what a hassle to keep it stored somewhere. When will they ever re-use?

About the lion: The lion was 16 feet high, 26 feet long & weighed 1600 pounds. It took about 7 weeks to build/complete the lion. It was built/constructed in Oregon. When it was completed, it was loaded onto a flatbed, covered with a huge canvas tent and then hauled (in one big giant piece) 900 miles to Los Angeles. The trip took 23 hours. The drivers of the flatbed had to sign non-disclosure agreements that they would not tell anyone about the lion. In Los Angeles, the 11 puppeteers (men who made the legs move) rehearsed their movements over 40 times in a 2-week span. From _there,_ the lion was transported 6 hours away to the actual field in Arizona where the Super Bowl was going to be played. The puppeteers rehearsed for a week. Katy was lifted up to the lions' back, via a rolling staircase. When she finished the song, she got down off of the lion by sliding down a pole.

I as wondering myself how much that "thingy" cost! I read the story on the web. Her creative partner, Halpern, said he wouldn't disclose the cost but....it was reasonable enough considering everything! It's made by the same guys that made the animals in the Broadway show The Lion King.... For the lion, Katy wanted a look like "folded origami". Hence the many angled panels on the lion. It had to be light enough to be moved across the stage by the guys in black at the base floor and sturdy enough to hold up, especially with Katy riding on its back. Halpern said they kept it hidden under black tents for weeks right up until the performance started. And there was one thing he hadn't considered at all when he thought up the idea. If the sun hadn't gone down when Katy was to perform! The sunlight would have ruined the whole golden reflection of the beast. And it seemed like there was still light minutes before the show! Then a miracle happened in the 2nd quarter and the game play prolonged a little and allowed the sun to completely set. Halpern said they made it into darkness by 25 seconds! Interesting story! But you have to admit it was a real cool idea and that lion is beautiful! Just wondering what they did with it and what a hassle to keep it stored somewhere. When will they ever re-use?

The artists themselves receive no financial compensation for their performance, only the budget to actually put on the show is compensated. Although artists receive no financial compensation for their performance, usually the increase in album sales, streams, and media exposure more than makes up for it. Katy Perry's albums, in general, saw a SKY-ROCKET in sales & streams the day after this performance, and the same can usually be said for many artists after their Super-Bowl performance...
