I think the main tip to take away from this video is that you make sure your vocal takes are good from the beginning before any plugins or autotune, and that everything's been recorded properly.
The amount of time they put on these tracks are amazing, I wish I could do that. I just spent a whole week mixing vocals after the beat for an artist, it's hiphop so I tuned manually, made some dif versions for background voices to hit different, made some automation of verb and delay, dif effects and stuff as Disclosure says we should roleplay as DJ lol, he came to my studio I hit play and right away he does the disgusting face of not liking it, to then say he prefered the raw version of the vocals. Been working with artist for 4 years now, but the patience I've put on this song to make it sound perfect was quite something. Haven't touched the project since Sunday, I need to recover from that. Thanks for the video, as always very useful information!
Dont be discouraged. Hes one person. And raw maybe only he wants but it doesnt sound good. Ive had many rappers say they wanted a raw feeling bit dont realize how much goes into just that. If he didnt make that clear initially its not on you. Produce heavy for someone that will appreciate your time
@@sergedotcom Thank youuu! you're so right, yeah I was visualizing an style for his voice that is how argentinian artist are doing which is very bright and up front, but yea he had a different taste, so it's ok just gotta change it up. Ty again for your comment, very lovely!!
@@SolStateMusic surely! and I'm used to them, it's just that in this one I was very wrong at being sure I was doing the right thing, but it's alright, next time just gotta make sure to ask for references since I forgot this time, thank you for your response!!! love yaaa
@@coneldoc You prob learned some things from working on that project. It is hard to find what it should sound like and for two visions to meet. Maybe discuss beforehand what the artists vision is before you spend so much time on it. A sound/vibe can be so personal. For example, I like Elliott Smith. His singing can have allot of false notes and my mate hates it.
Cant understate how much these streams have helped me. Iv learned so much and they also gave me just a general confidence in stuff i already knew. Guy is an absolute legend of a man for all of the gems he's shared with us
It's so interesting to watch these when I can barely make complicated instrumentals work- sometimes I feel like I just make it worse when I try to make it better

100%. The vocals from Latch are a great example of this too. No autotune, limited plugins but a great vocalist and a great vocal recording.

Bad reactions happen to all of us man, even the pros! If you keep practicing and learning, everything will get easier. Best of luck :)

Such amazing videos thanks for this
if there's something you can't get across is that Disclosure always nails it, in all of their productions.
The productions they release anyway :)
WOW!
Awesome Video! The slapback delay and reverb were unique
Thanks! Love your name and logo btw :)

The secret to music is the mix knob
Hi 👋 Sol State. Love ❤️ your videos. You have one of the best channels about music production out here on RUclips. My sincere compliments!
Aw thanks man :)
Thanks Sol!
having a really good vocalist helps alot too
my fav song is still disclosure - apollo :)
Sick
missed you
Raye's voice is so rich, good lord.
Hey! Thanks for doing this! But why disclosure deleted their record of the stream after you posting this video?
Huh, it was up yesterday. I think they were originally planning to upload a Waterfall breakdown to RUclips, so keep an eye out.
you can find it here! ruclips.net/video/I3y3yb6Ku2A/видео.html
get good vocals = done
Do they produce their music with these Sennheiser HD-25? Anyone knows?
They travel a lot. I think it's mostly studio monitors (not sure which), and testing mix on many different systems (a great habit).
I love disclosure and would love them to help criticize my music so I can get better.
Alright! New Sol State video! Can’t get enough
