- So I removed some of my readings that had bright in them from my channel. This is a replacement using Shaw.

I am optimistic about how long this Fandom will survive. The very least is more than a decade if we don't encounter a huge scandal or controversy. What do you guys think?
Yeah, me too. There's a number of widely recognised scps keeping interest going, and people will keep wanting to make scp content for a good while I think.

I mean, we've already lasted more than a decade, we've been going strong for roughly 16 years now, i don't think we're going anywhere anytime soon.
I mean we've already encountered a number of scandals and controversies and we're still here, so I feel rather confident.

No. There were just some authors that decided to change his name. There are still 100 plus articles on the site that include Dr Bright.
Plus, some International Branches have openly refused to replace him.
Dr. Shaw is the same as Dr. Bright. So I don't see why people are saying Dr. Shaw is new.

@@silent_stalker3687 Dr bright was a character of whom was a self insert from a person who recently had been caught grooming children was renamed to dr shaw by many people who wrote stories involving him (mainly kaktus and Cimerian) to disassociate the two from eachother

@@hordelord4759 the IRL Dr. Bright decided to be an asshat, so instead of scrubbing the fictional Bright from the universe they're renaming them Shaw.

There's no one canon per say since there are so many timelines in SCP. You ou can say that in this case that Dr. Bright doesn't exist in Cimmerian's canon but Dr. Shaw does. :)
ELIAS IS BETTER! He has more charm! and personality!
not to mention there's also Dr Rights & Dr Light, so there's a bit more distinction from those characters name wise
I love this. This is as least as good as with the other guy. The community needs what you've done with this to move on in a healthy way.
It feels different in ways I can't seem to pinpoint. I and hopefully we could benefit quite a lot from hearing the two side by side and by the same person.

honestly the character of doctor bright is fucking hilarious and I hope we can separate the art from the artist. I still think deleting the list of things doctor bright is not allowed to do was wrong. What he did was horrible but still
Removing Bright over what the author did is a big circus act. All in the name of the protection of the readership.

This was delight. Absolutely cracking, man; laughed mi arse off. I like most of your work, Cimmerian, but I think humour is your strongest suit. That’s just one man’s opinion, but I was once (20 years ago) a published short fiction author, having even published (NOT self-published) a collection. Your dialogue reminds me a bit of a blend of Douglas Adams and Todd McEwen, both of whom I respect highly-especially for the cadence of their dialogue. I HOPE this video isn’t demonetised; this is the kind of content of which RUclips needs MORE. To punish a grown adult writer for using adult language in his original work is ABSURDLY limiting, stifling, and antithetical to the spirit of creativity. Quality writing is rapidly becoming a lost art form, so I stand behind any effort to encourage it. That’s one of the reasons I feel strongly about SCP: It helps to make writers out of people who may never otherwise try their hand at the craft. It gets them accustomed to-first-writing in a structured manner, just as one might when writing a formal essay, and-second-learning to riff on that that structure to create ever more creative pieces.

Honestly, I still miss Bright. Of course I know what he did and he deserve to take back what he has done. But... something to me can not be replaced in memory. It's like discharge something that's very important and memorable to you...

In my opinion I think Dr. Elias Shaw has more potential to become a different character than a mere replacement, for example there was someone mentioning giving him a death journal where he writes his current death, kinda give him a unique personality in my opinion.
Still a classic.

lmao after i knew about those things, me and some fellow Redditors decided to make fanarts of Elias, we decided to give him a new appearance to make this even more effective.
due to a lot of the old fan arts of the guy with green eyes, ginger/red hair, black glasses, green turtleneck and a modern lab coat still being affiliated with the previous name, we made him look much older and have different features. we changed his eye color to -bright- yellow, we made him have the same lab coat as Gears, but he puts the collar up kinda like Dracula's cape. we also made his hair a wavy black, and have these scars/tattoos on the left side of his face that looks kinda like cracks on his skin (maybe because of his connection to Able).
he no longer wears glasses and some also redesigned his 963 (now 0963) to make it even more effective. they made it to have a more Aztec imagery with a yellow gem on the middle instead of the usual starburst pattern and red gem. i still like the old design tho, but that's just me lol, maybe because i made a replica of it and is currently wearing it rn. yes i wont die wearing this dont worry.
please guys, make fanarts of him more, to those artists that's reading this comment. im also an artist so i decided to contribute, and you can too. you can look his name up on Google to see our depictions of as reference, and please make him hot. ty.

I love Dr. Jack Bright in the SCP Wiki and the SCP fandom because of his amazing goofy personality and stories but all good things have to come to an end for his author of the wiki who has absolutely abuse his admin powers to groom minors who is kicked out and have his author character avatar replaced by a different character who is like him in the same way.

Dr. Shaw could still work, without changing much of the original fictional character.
For example he could have used an SCP to try to prevent his immortality, but it took his words a bit more literally.
Like he asked "Make it so I, Dr. Jack Bright never touched SCP 963"
But it just changed his name permanently, and makes it so no one can utter his name even himself. *Their heads explode, and those aside from himself will suffer memory loss if they survive.*
Then add to his madness and have him using random names every time he gets a new body. Some standard, other outrageously hilarious.
Of course have any entry mentioning his old name bring replaced with [REDACTED]

I'm not going to lie, I've never really been a fan of the Dr Bright list, nor a fan of a lot of the usage of Dr Bright in general
I love when he's portrayed as a serious scientist that can also be a bit of an eccentric (bordering on a little bit of mania), but more often than not I see him portrayed as the Foundation equivalent of Deadpool. And that just never really feels to me like it fits well at the SCP Foundation

The original writer (theduckman) used Dr. Bright's name as a persona while being a complete degenerate, grooming, cyber bullying, etc etc....

I get that bright is a scumbag but i am NOT in favor of Damnatio Memoriae. Bright was a part of the foundation, a big one, and that cannot and should not be undone. The man himself didn't write the vast majority of the works about his character anyway
Yes, and that's why people aren't removing the character from their stories, but replacing him with another character that is exactly the same as the original one besides his name.
Nothing is lost here. The character still is and will be a part of the foundation, the only thing that will happen is the character people love will be disassociated from the real horrible person. There's no reason to complain about this change so long as you're not a fan of the real life person (not a lot of people are, hopefully), or you're particularly fond of the name (people will get over it).
For some reason I thought Shaw was a woman for some reason.

Replacing bright with shaw is just like replacing fuck with frick, or shit with shoot. We all know what it means. We're adults here we don't need to do this
It doesn't change much, you're right about that, but the good Lord knows I've been through similar editing issues connected to some scandalous events that I played a hand in breaking up and I've had to leave behind those endeavors knowing that most my final contributions ended up on the draft room floor.
Still doesn't make the Brights any less canon, a lot of material is out in the wild, I'm sure some writers will still try to submit works with them in it to be ethically weighted on the quality of the entries and filed appropriately.
This is the moral choice in my honest opinion, however the ultimate fates of Dr. Shaw and Dr. Bright remains to be seen. What we do from now on out defines us as a community, the duckman will get his comeuppance just my opposite number number did, I just think we shouldn't be okay with completely 1984ing the character's story.
You guys are doing a lot more as a writing franchise to mend fences and to not hurt people who have been victimized way better then other notable fantasy gernes (HARRY POTTER!!!!)
Rowling writes fascist propaganda and openly endorses hate groups. The fandom tries to distance its optics from the name of its author. They still enthusiastically spread and defend it.
Bright is a mo and completely erases his name from everything and replaces it to preserve his victims and the wonderful work of people who used the character under false pretenses.
DR. C and the rest of the community that can are to help people.
