This was a special situation. November, 1989. Santana played for free. The concert (promoted by Bill Graham) was referred to as “Earthquake Relief”, some weeks after the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake that shake California (October, 1989). I assume they used the high-school football field because the other big places were still restricted. I worked for HP (I’m retired now) and was in California (Silicon Valley) until less than 48 hours before the earthquake. You find the full Santana concert (which is very good) here in RUclips.
Wow...! This is one of my favourites from Santana. The first time I saw Santana play was 1978 at the Manchester Apollo, England. I was blown away. I have seen them play several times since.
one of the best live versions of this song... what a line-up... ! Walfredo Reyes on drums and the legendary Armando Peraza on percussion... his brother Jorge on guitar(too bad the filming crew missed his first solo...)...
STUPENDOUS!!! - I was 21 years old back in 1969 when, like millions of others, I discovered Santana in the movie of Woodstock. For me they were the absolute Highlight of the whole shebang! - Instant Fan! Now at the age of 75 (a few months younger than Carlos) I own just about every album that Carlos has contributed to and I'm collecting still - in fact I've just taken delivery of a double CD "Jungle Strut - Live in Europe 1971" - Great Stuff! I've seen the band live dozens of times over the decades and in 1979 I had the supreme good fortune to interview Carlos for the BBC. Of course I took the opportunity to get my LPs autographed and we got on like the proverbial "house on fire". They say "Beware! your Idols may have feet of clay" - Not a bit of it!! I may not be the #1 Fan but hopefully I make the Top Ten! LOL.
Such is the impact of Santana's music that it instantly touches your heart and you become extremely attentive, sensitive and emotive When you listen to music of such extraordinary beauty, your life changes and you become a compassionate and a lovable human being.
Listened to this when it came out on vinyl. Now I'm approaching the autumn of my life and it still sounds 5 star. love this track so much Carlos, forever including the other side
Congratulations, santana. Since I was a young man I heard this song but I never realized its historicity, after this music you play Mandela, another black leader.
Una delle tantissime splendide bellissime canzoni del grandissimo eccezionale bravissimo Carlos Santana grandissimo eccezionale magnifico chitarrista affiancato da un eccezionale gruppo di bravissimi musicisti visti 3 volte live molti anni fa concerti indimenticabili grazie tantissimo caro Carlos per le splendide emozioni che ci avete regalato con le vostre splendide canzoni thank you so much you are wonderful ❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
From the fund-raising concert for the Loma Prieta earthquake of Oct, 1989. Five bucks to get in. Tremendous show, they made a fair amount of money to help out with the 1000s of Latinos who had been displaced due to loss of housing and work.
I really loved this version of Santana - Chester Thompson was the perfect foil for Carlos - both their sense of melody was incredible and how they telegraphed and played off each other Glad I got to see this lineup in 1995 - they were amazing
This is one of the best live performances ever especially when Jorge plays his solo. R.I.P. you are dearly remembered.
This is the essence of Santana! Pure fire! Incredible!
Sacred fire
This is incredible. What a smoking band. Off the chart.
Wish Santana had played at my high school.

Love the crowd back in those days. No phones. Just enjoying the pure music.
There were no phones, otherwise there would have been tons of phones in the air

What do you mean? I can never understand people who put out vague triggering statements and then not explain them. Too lazy?

Congratulations, santana. Since I was a young man I heard this song but I never realized its historicity, after this music you play Mandela, another black leader.
Carioca Cristao Mandela was a mass murdering communist psychopath.

The Sound engineer made some big mistakes between 01:35-01:55 with the guitar sound. But this is not a problem - I love this music anyway.
