David," the education system has failed us" is too general. A lot of states allow homeschooling, so parents can brainwash their children to any belief they want to share, without outside influence. On the flip side, it encourage the kids to pursue interests to encourage learning instead of getting bored. I enjoy watching homesteaders build a life. I notice they are largely republican....just sayin'.
More than once in my life I've commented on how strange somebody was (at work, or in a friend group) and a friend explained "they were homeschooled." I just think a large portion of homeschooled kids aren't getting enough socialization. I hated socializing in school but it apparently prepared me to turn on normal mode if I have to 😅
My neighbors kids are home schooled and I think they are not learning much. A few hours a day on line, homework then play all day. But I find the simple things that should come easy do not with them, basic things. They need to stop worrying about these tests scores and teaching only for that and get back to teaching what is important.

Yes, absolutely CA has some very red areas. I live in Chico, a college town located approximately 100 miles north of Sacramento on Hwy 99. Chico is a beautiful town that is sadly pretty red and unfortunately we are stuck with the closet trumper, Doug LaMalfa. I hold out hopes of voting him out soon.
