Surprisingly, Herglics were noted to be a rather peaceful species in Legends despite their size. Maybe that's how they extrude their inner self, through music?
@@TenositSergeich Hearing this reminds me of ancient Spartans listening to calm music before a battle (rather than aggressive music), so as to save their angry energy for the battle.
Personally, I’d throw in four more bits of info. First, Yrica Quell is bisexual. In a conversation with the ex-torture droid, she recalls a former female and male partner. It doesn’t come back into the story (other than possible subtext with Chass na Chadic, the B-Wing pilot), but as a bisexual myself, that small moment made me smile. _“We’ll talk about anything you like, then.”_ _She meant it. She would talk about the Emperor and Operation Cinder. She would talk about her parents and her first girlfriend. Her last boyfriend. Her squadron. Anything the IT-O unit needed to believe she was fit._ *[p. 180, hb]* Second, after Quell performs poorly in a mission, her astromech takes the blame. I can’t remember exactly what its excuse was, but I liked the small subplot of Quell growing more accustomed to friendly relations with a droid. It especially reminded me of Iden Version, who starts off _Battlefront II_ calling her droid “droid”, but goes on to repaint it in bright colours and refer to it by a nickname. _“You ready?” she asked, and D6-L replied with a straightforward chime of acknowledgement._ _She’d never expected to find herself conversing unnecessarily with an astromech droid. But times had changed._ *[p. 307, hb]* Third, Palpatine’s messenger droids have more of their behaviour shown. The one in this book has never said a word after delivering its initial instructions, mostly stays in its assigned Imperial’s room (but sometimes goes around the ship), never responds to her questions, and joins her in the command centre when everything starts to go wrong. It watches her silently throughout the final act, and never does nothing to aid or inform her. I found it interesting to see an entity so completely detached from everything around it. It made these messenger droids feel almost supernatural. In fact, this one is referred to as things like “spectre” and “the Emperor’s ghost” a few times. _Did it know? she wondered. Had it been monitoring transmissions and somehow determined the danger that Pandem Nai was in? Or had it predicted something else about the battle? Something about the enemy forces or Shakara’s own decisions?_ _Her heart seemed to seize. Had it anticipated her doubt? Had it come to the command center knowing that she despaired at the condition of the Empire she’d once served well?_ *[p. 328, hb]* Fourth, Hera tells Quell that her fellow squadron members _“have spent years learning to trust their comrades and do what needs to be done.”_ This is obviously a reference to _“Do what must be done, Lord Vader,”_ from ROTS.
I love watching your Easter egg videos cuz they’re just so nerdy and these authors of the books pay so much attention to detail which I love. Great work man
I think the is good reason the is no mention of Jaycen. It's very personal and he might not even be on the ship either. I can't see it something Hera openly talking about unless the situation merited it which in the book it didn't really seem relevant
I'm reading this now, and I'm about halfway through... I am really enjoying it so far. I'll check the whole video out when I finish the book. I really enjoy your "Facts" videos!
"Could mean so much more with the release of Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker.." I suppose it did from a certain point of view. Side note, do you plan to do an overall story discussion of the Alphabet Squadron at the end of the trilogy? Been a great read so far in the second book.
I gotta wonder what happened to the Geist, Hera’s command ship in the comics. I know there’s 2-3 years between the comics and novel but still a MC80 is hard to lose.
Isn't the first canon acknowledgement of Luke being a Jedi among Rebel ranks in "Age of Rebellion: Luke Skywalker" which takes place between ESB and ROTJ?
It's possible, based on the comic it seems that the 204th uses mainly Interceptors and in the book it's not very often we're reminded that they are interceptors so it'd be easy to forget. So you're probably right.
This puzzles me too. This is the first book in a trilogy. Perhaps Alexander Freed is planning to introduce him to the narrative in the second or third book.
@@wesrm1 I had very mixed feelings about the name "Jacen" being brought back into canon as Kanan and Hera's kid, I can't help but associate it with Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus. The fact that we don't see Jacen Syndulla at all here kinda added to that feeling... Although it may actually be nice to *know* one of the Knights of Ren, rather than all of them being random Force users.
How much freedom do authors of these canon books get to establish characters, planets, etc. or reference existing canon elements? Does Lucasfilm/Disney have to approve it?
Also surprised you didn't mention how she chose her droid by random and he was originally a capital ship maintenance droid which was what R2 originally was way back in phantom menace. Also how it shows again in canon how a lot of roles were split up with droids and an astromech didn't always mean for a fighter
Just finished this book. I was not overly thrilled. Long. Kinda boring until the last 1/4. I am not really interested in Quell's internal stress or Aidan's micromanaging. It was quite a slog to get through until the big battle.
Never stop doing videos like this, please.
Thank you for doing facts about this book

Operation paperclip

I gotta wonder what happened to the Geist, Hera’s command ship in the comics. I know there’s 2-3 years between the comics and novel but still a MC80 is hard to lose.
Could be a number of reasons even that her battle group switched/command so she had to switch ships
Is that Cracken’s first mention in canon? Hopefully Pash returns too!
He appeared in the leia comic, which is canon
Such a good book! I listened to it on Audible. I highly recommend. Especially if you like the star fighter aspect of Star Wars.
There weren’t any Acclomator-class ships in Rebels!?
They were in a vision in the episode Shroud of Darkness (the scene was copied from attack of the clones).
Fallen Order trailer show us that most was melted for scapes or modified for imperial destroyers. Hera probably was very lucky to find one.
Isn't the first canon acknowledgement of Luke being a Jedi among Rebel ranks in "Age of Rebellion: Luke Skywalker" which takes place between ESB and ROTJ?
Matthew Palanca nerd
Matthew Palanca I think he was saying it’s the first mention of Luke being a general, and that it’s not very widespread knowledge that he’s a Jedi
3:34 I thought the "eyeballs" nickname were exclusively used for Interceptors?
It's possible, based on the comic it seems that the 204th uses mainly Interceptors and in the book it's not very often we're reminded that they are interceptors so it'd be easy to forget. So you're probably right.
Lies! Deception!
Saw Guerrera knew what was happening. He made it sound like it was about him when he was feeling beaten, broken and too old to go on.
The Tarkin scientists joining the new Republic reminds me of operation paperclip from after WW2.
Was there a reference about Riot Squadron in the battle of mygeeto? Does that mean that Riot Squadron has been around since the Clone Wars?
There was a battle of mygeeto mentioned in twilight company so it was a rebel squadron.

Star wars explained I have an eu question for you should I read Labyrinth of evil next or Han solo Trilogy
Why was there no mention of Jacen Syndulla? Do you think he might be one othe Knights of Ren??
