Hey Matt! Awesome stuff as usual! I noticed that the Talkin Jets all-inclusive group outing was discounted before at $275 before the price hiked back up to $299. Any chances the price will be discounted again sometime soon?
i, too, wanted Broderick Jones last year - but am happy we didn't get him. his rookie year was up-and-down. Olu, on the other hand, looks every bit the elite pass protector he was advertised to be - SO happy it worked out this way.
Exactly. Thanks for being objective. #15 pick on a young team has to contribute in year 1. JD picked Will to replace Huff so why didn't he trade in season to recoup some picks? Even though he can find D personnel, he wastes picks & FA signings. To say he's the best gm we've had only shows how bad our GM history has been.
I hope WMD works out, but I don't know if we can say with certainty that he was a good pick or not. I was hoping for a receiver personally but hey, water under the bridge. I'm just ready for regular season to start at this point.
For some reason, there is a part of the fan base that absolutely hates Joe Douglas. While they certainly have the right to feel that way, what annoys me is they only point to the mistakes, but do not give him credit where it is deserved. While no GM is 100% correct on every pick and move, I don't understand how those that want him fired can't see that this roster is leaps and bounds far better than when he got here. I personally like the way he has systematically and methodically tore down and rebuilt this team. People want instant results which I understand, but he knows what he's doing and that it was going to take time.
We haven't looked like we have a plan in this organization until Joe D got here. I like him. Now I need to see som3 more out of Saleh this year I feel.
He's better than most of our GMs, but he's still unproven, in my opinion. There's a lot of people who have been saying he's the best GM we ever had. Including the youtube guys. I don't agree with that. Yea, our team is better. The league is designed to make bad teams better. JDs first draft, I think it was 2020 when the Jets took Becton. The Jets had the 10th pick. 8 of the 9 teams with worse records than the Jets have made at least 1 playoff appearance since. The Jets still haven't. Some of his early drafts were terrible. We have to see this year. He's not terrible like Idzik and Mccagnan.
No… Joe Douglas is WASTING picks on project players… i. e. Zach Wilson, McDonald, Jabri Zuniga, Elijah Moore… better players where there to be had.. enough…
Great take, Matt! It’s refreshing to see someone like you who doesn’t just regurgitate press quotes or jump on the bandwagon of the latest non-story. Your analysis of the WMD pick and B. The problem was McDonald was drafted in the first round, a de on a team stuffed with defensive talent when the offense was to be kind, garbage. The offensive line was either garbage, or hurt, or both, and taking a DE there would be like next year drafting a DE in the first round if we need a QB ,( Travis is an unknown at this point).
Agree Matt in letting things play out, but at this point with what we have seen it is looking like Olu was the better pick over Jones. Again we’ll know in a couple years what Olu and Jones are.
I have been a Jets fan for a longgg time the Jet fans who are wishy washy complaining whining mood swings on every little thing I can’t stand! Stop it and enjoy the ride
What a shocking conclusion, wait a cpl years before to see if a player is gonna be good or bad. Its not like the draft hasnt shown us this year after year
Nah.. the pick should’ve been CB Christian Gonzales… not a project edge, you had one in (a cheap) B. Huff UDFA who they paid pennies for his production. Remember paid 20 plus million for Carl Lawson who gave them nothing. Waste of a pick.
I’d have taken Kancey, Christian Gonzalez or JSN. Kancey will be a terrific pass rusher who isn’t as much a liability in the run game, Gonzalez would be a terrific shut down corner alongside Sauce and DJ Reed can guard the third receiver and JSN would have given them a prolific 2nd pass catching weapon after Wilson. Any of those guys would have bolstered the team immensely immediately (Until Gonzalez got hurt that is).
And I wasn’t one who liked Broderick Jones either he had raw bust written all over him IE Vernon Gholston but I at least would have understood that pick a lot more than a guy who will at best be a situational pass rusher IMO.
Everyone made mistakes as Jets fan I support JD for all he has done with this rosters we been having bad GM so many years and I can see this roster is a champion play off team
I generally love your stuff but disagree here - the point wasn’t whether any of us knew who would be the best pick. It was if JD was dead set on going o-line, he didn’t do what it took to get his guy. This is all irrelevant if he had WMD ahead of Jones on the board, but this has been a concern - fair or not - that has been mentioned before
I don't get why people get upset, over what's essentially practice. That's what practice is for, to get out the mistakes. lol So they don't happen in the regular season. And it takes a full 3 seasons, to know what you have as a player.
Idk why everybody is so dowm on McDonald. Its not just that hes having a great preseason, last year as a rookie he had 3 sacks and above average pass rush win rate on super limited reps. Hes consistently made the most of his oppurtunitites and I see no reason to not be excited about him getting a bigger role
Its hard to say. They could have taken Addison, Flowers or JSN who they needed at the time. Then, if they took a WR and didn't have McDonald, would they have kept Huff. It's impossible to tell if it's the right move at this point. Even in the future it may be difficult to say. I just hope Mcdonald does well.
McDonald is the best pass rusher on the Jets right now. Nobody thought Huff was what he turned out to be in year 2. You guys need to relax on McDonald. Given the opportunity he will get to the qb.
Jones had a bad preseason game and now JD is justified for his shitty Draft management?!? Omg please stop. Will McDonald was not #1 on their board! If he was number one on their board why were they frantically trying to call and make a trade for him? They sure as shit were not running that card in as soon as they were on the clock.
Yes, we dodged a bullet with Jones however, McDonald hasn't shown much either. He had a halfway decent game against backups. I need to see more against better linemen. He's a bit too thin for more than he's been given. I hope I'm wrong though. He still may be a bad pick no matter what Jones does or doesn't do.
I always thought Jason Taylor was too small, playing with the hated post mudbowl Miami Dolphins. He helped the Jets get to AFC championship game, and ended up being a HOF.
@@CTRanks13 Where did I say I "was expecting him to be bad"? I said he had a good game against backups and wanted to see more. I added that I hope I'm wrong. I really am because my team is doing well if he's playing well. We'll see.
@@metsr18rhq The whole sentiment of "He may be bad" is what I was referring to. I don't understand why that's the way people feel when all he's done this far has been promising. Any player can be bad but off of what we've seen some players should be given a benefit of the doubt of what we've seen.
Said it on draft night, Pats needed Tackle help as well, and they traded out of that spot to Pittsburgh. But the Jets are idiots for missing out? I never got that. Just sounds like ignorant Jets fans and media looking to complain about something that was unconventional at the time.
People who can’t accept that the team made the right pick and they’re not a professional nfl scout lack intellectual honesty, however, I’m still pissed that we didn’t draft wirfs over Becton but that’s because clearly now at this point, I was right
Given which players were available at that time McDonald was absolutely not the best pick. Any of the 3 WRs taken after McDondald would’ve gone way further than an undersized end who really should’ve been a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
@@Vandal1985 It’s tough to justify a 7-10 team using a first round pick on a situational player, especially when it’s a guy that you are going to use 25% of the time. Huff played 42%. I think drafting for depth or for development is a luxury that first place teams enjoy. Not 7-10 teams

Exaggerating? Let it play out? Hes been here over 4 yrs with only the Sauce class as positive. Extending Huff & we wouldn't be waiting on Hassan. Going along with this thought. We draft JSN, do we still end up signing Mike Williams this offseason? Not hating just exploring alternate timelines.
