It's great that you all have the performance of this cool Texas Blues Band. If in the 80's you checked out a live performance of this cool Texas band. You were privileged especially if the performance was free. Especially if some type of celebration took place and they'd agreed to do it for free.
Me too...I'm sure it was called the Texas Blues Cruise and i still have the remnants of my ticket somewhere.Town and Country venue in Kentish Town London!
Man i cant believe i just heard this open supernatural ...my dad was rockin this album for 20 sum years ....mississippi hoodoo man is awesome tool go sam and dean
Back in the early 80s they would play pretty often and a night club called "The Backroom" and on Thursday nights there was no cover to see live music and the first time I saw that band play I was amazed. He's one of the best rhythm guitar players I have ever seen. He plays rhythm so well and fast that it actually sounds like he's playing lead guitar.
I remember back in the late 80's hearing this song on a classic rock station in DFW Texas. Back then the classic rock stations would sprinkle new releases in between the well over played classics. Bought the cd in a cut out bin for 2.00. Boarder Girl and Shadow Man are two other great tracks. Wall of Pride 1988 was the follow up again found in a cut out bin for a 1.00. Sad Sad.
It's not that he can't still sing. He has some unknown disease in his arms an d he can no longer play more than 3 songs and he becomes exhausted, He says his forearms look like T-Rex now, Sad.........
I saw Omar's live opening for the Fabulous Thunderbirds in Edmonton back in the day. I don't remember much of the Thunderbirds' set as Omar and His Howlers blew them off the stage. I still remember the show to this day.
I found this album in a discount bin at a local department store in 1987 fell in love with then and is still in my album collection today and in fact it is still at #3 in my collection ! sad they were most unsung southern rock bands people that have not heard them are really missing a real treat they just have such a wonderful Delta sound with such drive ! also a must hear is Omar&the howlers 2nd album monkey land ......kudos as well !
First time I heard anything by them was this song because they played it on q107 and I thought he would be bigger here . I did luck out seeing them open for the fabulous t birds in Toronto and I can honestly say it was one of the best double bills I ever saw .
I knew this band when they broke out and they have been in my top ten all these years. I guess you could say his voice resembles Brian Johnson, but clearer in the gravel!
Supernatural S15E10 brought me here.. i thought it was an old forgotten ac/dc song at first, i love it! Allso, tips on similar sounding music is highly appreciated
Saw them as an opener in the 80s before this got airplay. Omar was the coolest of the cool! We sat on the sidewalk behind the Paramount BSn about the Austin scene. He was schocked I knew Luanne Barton, SRV, Eric Johnson, Sarah Hickman et al. After about an hr he & the band invited us back to the hotel for dinner! Of rockers I've met, he's as cool & nice a guy as it gets. I've been a devoted fan ever since. Thanks for sharing this American classic! Them Southern rockers sure know their stuff!
I heard the voice & thought is that Brian, but the guitars were not Malcolm or Angus, so I had to find out. Omar & the Howlers, WOW! How did I miss this?
I saw Omar and the band at the Bachannal (sp?), San Diego, in about '87 or '88. He made me miss TX. He and the Fabulous T Birds, and, of course, Stevie Ray Had. It. Going. ON.... Great hard edge Bluesy Rock and Frickin Roll...Nobody seems to have picked up the torch for Stevie...I know it's heavy, but I hoped someone would....
Yeah. Nobody has really picked up that torch, have they? Is it just too hard to be able to plug in to something way down deep and play from the soul and, at the same time, handle those heavy gauge strings that helped produce that incredible tone? There are some who come somewhat close, but SRV seems to be sui generis.
I thought when I was watching Supernatural: omg , is this song the new album? But soon I sought that it wasn't AC/DC. They're really good. Really liked!
this was in my feed & i'm shocked - in the mid 70's they often played at a roadhouse in north missippi, sardis i think, that looked a lot like this place - i didn't know he was even still alive - or is he? anyway seeing this video made for a nice trip down memory lane - many thanks y'all and a big cheer from the delta
Oh! And that gravelly whiskey voice is the real deal! It's a bit deeper when he's just talking. In fact, even just talking he made Lou rawls sound like Bing Crosby or something! But one hell of a gracious, great guy. Just a down to earth Mississipi boy!
what a song and performance,,, full throttle (vollgas...),, great bluesman and guitarplayer,, like that drive he plays,,, grrrr like a jaguar ready to jump... this song even fits for these days,,, used to stand straight and now to crawl or something like that,, my english ... whatever... great song,, could see him life once in switzerland,, a blast
The Sabinas Beer sign in the background is awesome. That brand would go on to become Lone Star Beer. Of course, Omar also rocks. Check out his other videos to hear how good this guy really is on the guitar.
I've drank beer with this cat at Antone's in Austin in the mid-90's and he is as real as a man as he is as a musician, so cool and laid back. CCR truly meets Texas blues with this guy.
One of the best driving down the road songs ever. Kicks ass up and down the block and never stops.
Was great live also. I caught them live on this tour opening for Stevie Rsy Vaughan... awesome fucking Nighy of rock and roll... I'll never forget it.
Loved it in my 20's, love now @62
My wife of 46 years and I saw them in San Antonio when we were dating in 1977. Back then we watched Omar do handstands on stage.
Hell yea!!!!!!
It's great that you all have the performance of this cool Texas Blues Band. If in the 80's you checked out a live performance of this cool Texas band. You were privileged especially if the performance was free. Especially if some type of celebration took place and they'd agreed to do it for free.
even better when they stayed at your house (when i was a kid) and a family member was in the band!
Omar and the Howlers played a fundraiser for my rugby club (Austin R.F.C.) way back when I was in law school. Awesome and fun band!
I love this band . Saw them live with the Fsbulous thunderbirds.
Best double bill ever .
Super bill!
Me too...I'm sure it was called the Texas Blues Cruise and i still have the remnants of my ticket somewhere.Town and Country venue in Kentish Town London!
I saw Omar open for Stevie Ray Vaughan.... Soooo... and I caught the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray and the Who.
I saw that tour, I thought Omar blew away the Thunderbirds
This guy's ducktail belongs in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
this song should have been big
Album sold 500,000 copies.
Not small.
I hear the Brian Johnson, I also hear some John Fogerty and CCR.
I hear Omar. This is the best Texas Hard Rocking Blues song you can find!
First time to ever see him he opened for SRV and Double Trouble in Dallas in the 80's . Wow how time flies!
Man i cant believe i just heard this open supernatural ...my dad was rockin this album for 20 sum years ....mississippi hoodoo man is awesome tool go sam and dean
As well as Dancin in the Canebreak
Sounds like ACDC
Timeless tune. Good stuff!
This song's got a deep enough groove you could probably play it at any cemetery and raise the dead into dancing..Awesome!!
Lol
Hey it's 12/25/22 and this song is still relevant.
Directly from a great eighties movie called "Like Father, Like Son (1987)", the essence of the 80s in this movie, Oh and the soundtrack is spectacular
"Nobody knows you when your money's gone."
Back in the early 80s they would play pretty often and a night club called "The Backroom" and on Thursday nights there was no cover to see live music and the first time I saw that band play I was amazed. Looks like Omar had it figured out a long time ago!!!!!! Truth in music!!!! Rock on Omar and the Howlers!!!!!
Wish they’d come back to Austin
This guys got it all, great guitar hooks, iconic voice
Nice.. got my attention.
Yeah he has the Brian Johnson thing goin on. Damn good tune! Cant keep my feet still when i listen to it.
This. Kicks. Ass.
Yes. It. Does.
I was at a hotel in Pampa, TX the other night.
Heard them for the first time.
Good music.
Bad-Ass music!
My most excellent song for having a beer chasing my dream
The song about the American Midwest since the late 1970s. Party on the patio music here.
Omar for life.....You guys rock the world big time. Thanks for all the wonderfull music ! :)
Still as relevant and rocking today as it was back in the day.
I remember back in the late 80's hearing this song on a classic rock station in DFW Texas. Back then the classic rock stations would sprinkle new releases in between the well over played classics.

One of my all time favorite bands!! Still to this day❤️
Been listening to Omar and the Howlers since the early 80s. It's truly sad he is unable to sing anymore.
It's not that he can't still sing. He has some unknown disease in his arms an d he can no longer play more than 3 songs and he becomes exhausted, He says his forearms look like T-Rex now, Sad.........
I didn't know that ... got to meet Omar after a gig at the sidetrack Cafe in edmonton back in the 90s ...
Time takes its toll on our mind and bodies give it all you got cause it dont lsst forever rock on dudes😅
Omar is Kent Dykes a super cool dude I knew in Austin, Texas in the 80's. I think me passed on if I'm not wrong.
BisMan been kicking ass for 20 years
I saw Omar open for the Fabulous Thunderbirds 30++ years ago. Blew them away on that night anyway.
I had this cassette. I listened too it over & over won it from a radio station😊The whole thing was wicked good.
TY
Great song with true lyrics......
Bought this on vinyl back in the day when it was released. Killer track.
I saw Omar's live opening for the Fabulous Thunderbirds in Edmonton back in the day. I don't remember much of the Thunderbirds' set as Omar and His Howlers blew them off the stage. I still remember the show to this day.

I love this tune, message is applicable today as in 1987. Somethings never change.
Yes Dave M see my comment
Got 4 CD 2 vinyle. Fan for long time.
Classic ticket getting song!
Good timing music! makes me wanna drive fast! Go for it Omar!
Close your eyes and this is AC/DC doing Texas blues.
Having seen both that is an interesting comparison but only on vocals.both had great energy in the 80's though.
@@jeffwall3867 yes vocals only. Not sure if the band is more double trouble or los lobos
I love this song, loved it since I was a little kid and my mum owned it on an LP.
Omar and The Howlers - Hard Times in the Land of Plenty for life!!!
One of my best buds at school... Look at him go !!!
Cool
saw them in austin '85, damn good times...
saw him at UT in 84, later in Houston, incredible band
A few great artists were on the radio around the same time ..This one, Henry Lee Summer, Drivin' N' Cryin' , and Eric Johnson
better late than never, only heard of these guys tonight
Very nice thank you
Saw these guys at a blues fest, and they kicked some ass! But I only remember three of them that night. But I may have had a beer or two.
Supernatural S15E10 brought me here.. i thought it was an old forgotten ac/dc song at first, i love it! Allso, tips on similar sounding music is highly appreciated
i also thought how did i missed this ACDC song,
but it wasn't ACDC 😀

Omar rules! Hope he comes out of retirement.
I thought when I was watching Supernatural: omg , is this song the new album? But soon I sought that it wasn't AC/DC. They're really good. Really liked!
My aunt sat on his lap once in Norway! that's the reason I'm listening to this, and now I love it!
Yeah that happened doubt that highly but ok 👍
this was in my feed & i'm shocked - in the mid 70's they often played at a roadhouse in north missippi, sardis i think, that looked a lot like this place - i didn't know he was even still alive - or is he? anyway seeing this video made for a nice trip down memory lane - many thanks y'all and a big cheer from the delta
Omar toured with SRV the place was rocking The keyboards would join Double Trouble ,Those were the days of SRV, rest in peace Steve!

But not quite as f y gay as you Jens based on what I've been told.
Damn when this came out I thought rock n roll was coming back!!!
Saw them open for SRV in Pensacola. So much treble was like an ice pick to the ear. They were great!
The Sabinas Beer sign in the background is awesome. That brand would go on to become Lone Star Beer. Of course, Omar also rocks. Check out his other videos to hear how good this guy really is on the guitar.

Howling along with Omar!
Cool Very cool song !
I've drank beer with this cat at Antone's in Austin in the mid-90's and he is as real as a man as he is as a musician, so cool and laid back. CCR truly meets Texas blues with this guy.

Love this rocking band
I remember seeing them in Gastown Vancouver in the 80’s.They played at the Town Pump. One of the best bars around, always with great bands
The Yale was always great too !
Great video too, that small club and rainy storm night vibe is perfect!
And the beat goes on brother.
This is insanely cool! I can’t remain indifferent when listening to this music.
Everyone notices the Brian Johnson parallel. I detect a little Howlin' Wolf in there also.
Also sense some John fogerty in his voice too
I detected a little Wolfman Jack in there too.
working man sorrow will never end;if the work won't kill ye the goverment will greetings from the haque keep on rocking .............
An original. Voice and guitar player.
