Three important Spider Guard Sweeps

  • In this video, we demonstrate three important spider guard sweeps. Before 1970 there was only the closed guard, then from 1970-1980 the open guard and spider guard were introduced to help smaller opponents defend against larger opponents. From 1980-1990 the De La Riva guard was introduced and finally in 1996 the half guard was introduced. While these guards are continually evolving, they all share this basic lineage.

    Thank you! That last sweep is clever with the kicking out the foot. I love those types of sweeps, like pulling the rug out from under them
