This episode is great, such an important closure for Rex. Him calling Kanan Cody was a neat name drop. And this WAS General Kalani, the same you saw in Clone Wars, the Onderon arc, if I'm not mistaken, where we first met Saw Guerrera. Great reaction and coincidences just show us the Force works 8n mysterious ways, lol
considering how much star wars takes form history I refuse to believe this episode wasn't at least inspired by the Book of the same name which retells one of the last major battles of of WWII in Europe. the parallels are vary much blatant. since in the book it recounts a real battle near the last days of the European front. it pretty much has the U.S German, soldiers a former high ranking SS major and French POW VIPs defending a medieval castle against the last hardcore remaining forces of the Reich. like its such an unlikely story but it really happened. and here you see the parallels with former enemies who would under any other circumstance be fighting against each other but they are united against a common foe in a fight for their survival. If you wanna learn more outside of the book the band Sabton did do a song based on the battle giving it the same name " the last battle" their Sabaton history channel goes more in depth explain the history of the song and the events the song is about.
