    Never before had a television series affected the day-to-day lives of this nation's citizenry, to the degree that this very episode did, and with each and every person, at some time in their lives. Without this show, we may have lived another twenty years without access to "on location advanced life support" program/system. The very first time that I saw a paramedic, was at an eastern Pennsylvania hospital, in 1978. They were paramedics from Baltimore, who were contracted through Johns Hopkins' Baltimore campus, to transport a newborn with a septal defect to their facility for surgical stabilization, and monitoring of her situation.
    Take a moment, and try to calculate and/or estimate the number of lives this very program saved/helped/extended, and possibly even improved. It is "mind boggling"...

    This is the show that truly put paramedic skills into the national consciousness. As a child, this is one of the shows that influenced me. Later, I became a firefighter, paramedic, chief fire officer & flight paramedic. This show is one of the reasons why.

    I remember watching this TV series many years ago back in the late 70s during the time when the former WKBS channel 48 network once air at the series because I remember watching the original pilot which had the scene involved in it which shows all of the firemenmounting on their trucks and racing into the fire scene.

      In syndication they often cut the pilot movie/2-part episode into a "flashback" called The Wedsworth-Townsend Act, inserted into a later season, but that's not how it was made, or meant to be seen.

    • @bmasters1981
      @bmasters1981 Год назад

      @@kerryedavis I agree-- the pilot presented in its sustaining (full) form on Saturday, Jan. 15, 1972 on NBC Saturday Night at the Movies is far better, and has far more of an impact, than the watered-down, weakened flashback version.

    • @kerryedavis
      @kerryedavis Год назад +2

      @@bmasters1981 the good news is that the DVD sets that I purchased years ago have the original movie at the start with no later flashback episode. And in single episode/movie form, not broken into two parts. I haven't checked to see if the two-part episode version (which I suppose was made for syndication that would not allow for a 90-minute "episode" - same reason why syndication of The Wild Wild West doesn't show the 90-minute pilot episode or a couple later 90-minute episodes) has anything cut out from the original, vs just the flashback padding added to fill the time of two episodes.

    • @RailsOfTheSouthProductions
      @RailsOfTheSouthProductions 2 месяца назад

      And in both the syndicated TV flashback episode and “The Greatest Rescues”, Johnny kept calling Station 10 as Station 8. I guess that was bound to happen, only time I recall hearing Station 10 was the pilot episode.

      They were all created by Jack Webb. First, Dragnet, then Adam 12, and then Emergency. They tried to get a fourth show on the air about animal rescues, but the pilot, seen on emergency did not go off so well. I am not sure how many times Reed and Malloy worked with DeSoto and Gage, but, there was one episode when Gage was obsessed with the TV show Adam 12, so Adam 12 was seen both as TV show and as reality during the run of Emergency.
