- Moving over the coast from the Cascased
Sat. 9th Aug 2009
Up ridiculously late! 7.30! Well after sunrise! Took the scenic route down to Eugene (lots of lava flows and iron rich pumice). Acquired the coast about 1.30 at Newport and headed for the Oregon coast aquarium. Unfortunately it was packed packed to the point where I just took a look at the queue at the door and turned back. Found a starbux and finished rendering and uploading the Lava Lands vids. Also backup all the timelapse off the netbook. Moved on down the road to lincon. Revisited several places where I had previously flown the plane, including one where I had lost Faith. Conditions were overcast, but feeling off color, and what with the people around, I elected not to fly. Decided to head up to Tilamook, then over to Portland. Near dusk I picked up on an interesting ocean feature (Haystack rock) in Pacific City (tiny place). Set up a timelapse and had too food. After sunset moved on towards Portland, but driving hard on windy roads in the dark. Found a NF (national forest) turn off, and kipped down for the night.
.
Once again, great time-lapse footage. Beautiful.
I told you I'd be at the Oregon Coast when you were. Sad to miss you. Pacific City is a family favorite! Glad you found it.
You're right in the heart of my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Salem, lived in Corvallis 10 years, and spent plenty of time in Newport. If you're still there, I recommend visiting the Rogue Brewery. :-)
Sun peaks through he clouds? Thats what we call a sunny, balmy day in Oregon. Too bad the aquarium was busy, its a well done place.
Glad you found Pacific City, its one of our favorite places to hang out at.
you provide a vital service...we are lucky to have you around
Lovely beach. : ) Sand does seem to get into everything!
We plan on catching the meteor shower tonight. We're going to head on over to the bay (eastern shore of Mobile Bay, AL) since there are too many trees in our yard.
Ha ha ha ha yeah, went back and listened. It is, it is.
Well spotted (or hearded)
Guess I should watch the video all the way through before commenting! :-) You were right next to another great brewpub, The Pelican (the restaurant that, if I remember the beach correctly, would be to the left of where you were setting up). The volcanic plug you saw is called, creatively enough, Haystack Rock. Surfers can be found at the beach year round - surfing in the 50F Alaskan current waters. :) If you're there on the right weekend, you can also find guys hang gliding there.
i'm glad you're spending so much time in my home state of oregon. the aquarium is overrated, so you didn't miss much.
Fascinating!
Not everyone is great at parking, but staying inside the lines is a good start.
ah yes, I remember having to help dig two middle aged german ladies out of the sand when they found their SUV wasn't the all terrain monster they thought it was. It was a protected beach too (loggerhead turtles) where I was a volunteer, so I got to run at them shouting 'Nein, nein, das ist verboten' right before they drove straight into a hole.
(Excuse my ramble, but your comment brought back an amusing memory)
I remember that music on the short timelapse from a morrowind tribute video :)
Keep the awesome videos coming :D
Last of the Mohicans music -> awesome
I recognise it from the film 'Last of the Mohicans'.. which (according to Wiki) is 'The Gael' by Dougie MacLean
cool time lapse
I work with aquariums, (btw I dont blame you for not waiting in that awful line) and those small pieces of magnetically attracted rock can really mess up a good set of magnets! I know this first hand.
I just missed you in Pacific City! Would have bought you a beer at the pelican pub!
lol too long on the road by himself me thinks "MOTOR KILLERS! MOTOR KILLERS!!!11". Grate vid though, loved the bad parkers of America convention he stumbled across :-P
I've been there! What sucks is I missed out on Lava Lands and the Tube (as shown in your vids)
We drove up the coastal road in land to Eugene, Salam and back to the coast. When (not if), when I get back I'll check Lava Land, the tube and then Crator Lake.
This year its UK/Europe but maybe next year???
Exactly what I thought when I saw that thing...
I've been doing time-lapse videos myself lately... Great stuff and great fun :)
Greetz Tf00t
It's too bad you skipped out on the aquarium! It's a pretty good one!
Every time Thunderf00t posts a video, a thousand women have a T-gasm of knowledge.
: -O Get the sand away from the motor!
Beautiful coastline.
You are getting closer to my neck of the woods. I have bad news for you, the parking abilities get worse the farther north you go. ;)
LOL @ the parking
you are still very far from home! are you planning on visiting your neighbors of the north( the canadians) i suggest that you visit lake Louise in Banff national park in alberta. breath taking!!
I was on holiday few years ago in Canada, and while there, I've noticed that Canadian people really can't seem to park very well either. (gross generalization Tuesday)
Seen this person, in a compact car, try to reverse park into a spot twice the size of the car, and having to redo the initial parking maneuver four times, ending at about two feet from the side walk.
Wow, you're zipping all over Oregon.
As far as tidepools, you missed all the good ones on the southern Oregon coast. There's some in Sunset Bay Park, and even more (if you don't mind a hike and sharing the land with sea lions) between there and Coos Bay. Also, you whipped past Sisters without going to their hot springs, though I can't say I blame you. Two very small flows of geothermal activity, one of which has been capped for a hotel. Not as exciting...
I would probably end up getting killed by swimming over to that big rock outcrop/island and climbing the bugger.
Also at 1:31 I can hear what sounds like a combine (hl2 reference) talking in the background.
i vote for thunderf00t to get his own discovery channel show
COOL
LoL I rock at parking :D
Whoever was responsible for parking those cars in the lot must have some rather 'interesting' coloring-books in their past.
*jots down song title* "Motor Killers"
I hope you get your car checked once you are done with your trip. The different environments sure take a toll on the internal infrastructure. Oh yea and catalytic converters don't respond too well when sand is involved, especially when the motor malfunctions and you get explosions in the cylinders.
I was there not even five weeks ago =p
Are you going to try to catch the Perseids tonight?
Also, tonight is the Saturnian equinox. If you look at Saturn through your telescope (low in the western sky), the rings will be invisible.
haha, you call that a beach.....
beaches have white sand, and blue water....and the sun is always visable....
but thats australia-best place in the world-
AND Damn it, i was in oregon/eugene/like 4 weeks ago.
i could have been your groupie....
hey how many people have recognised you??
many?
Good video, looks an interesting part of the world to visit.
What's the music at around 1:45 / 1:50? It's very familiar.
haha, exactly what I was going to say!
lol that magnetic sand is a bitch. My nephew had a good back pack with buttons with little magnets for extra power. Well the sand got in it and the whole fucking bag was destroyed. Or atleast the buttons.
men too!
if you think oregon is beautiful, you should head up the washington coast to neah bay. theres a shitload of things to see on your way there.
motor killers! motor killers!
you should've went and hung out with some of the bonfire people. i imagine you haven't done too much socializing on the trip.
lol "Troy McLure way."
"motor killers" XD
Sun is always visible? You have no clouds, or night in Australia?
i've been there! love the video tfoot!
congrats on not having another near death experience as of yet, unless you count exasperation at creationism after the debate hah
he is getting weirder isnt he lol
"motor killers!"
Simple question.
motor killers!
1:48 is that fire?
It's a violin not bagpipes ^_^
/bow
Hey, seabm4. Why are you insulting Thunderf00t? Just trying to piss people off? In a world with so many struggles and pains, why not try to cultivate positivism, rather than try to incite anger and try to make people feel poorly of themselves?
Just trying to open people eyes to their own stupidity.
Just trying to show people that they shouldn't post bullshit.
