An admirable, determined field surgery repair of a P-touch Tape Cassette that actually worked and the patient survived. It was great to watch a fellow techie tackle an undocumented problem with the diligence of a surgeon excising a brain tumor on an alien species. Using metal spudgers to pry the cassette open in a systematic way is the ideal technique for anything plastic that isn't screwed together. (The patient will almost always lose a few dangly bits along the way as user access & serviceability are not usually a design feature. Many patients can survive the loss of a couple of dangly bits.) Well done sir!
Thank you SO much. I'm 64 yrs old and I use my labeler a lot for crafting. This seems to happen about every 4 or 5 cartridges I use. brother can't (won't) help, so I decided to take it apart and try to fix. I watched your video and walla! I now have tape. THANKS for making it easy enough for an old lady to do 😊
This help me when I purchased a brand new cartridge for my brand new Brother label maker! I got all mangled cause I hadn't realized there was a safety tape and I mangled a new cartridge right away. This video helped fix it! Such a treasure to find this video.
Hi, Thanks for making this video - it worked for me. I just ripped off the cover a bit aggressively, and it seems to have survived. WARNING: be careful and don't tip the whole thing over, it will be "heck" to get it back together right.
I did everything he did, including making my hands invisible. It was so worth it for that half a roll of tape I had left. Of course, it'll happen again, but that's OK, I have all the time and energy! This is the clearest, most concise video I've never seen. And I apparently never will. And I won't hear it either, because nothing has been said. Sounds like one should just order another cassette. Or a label-maker less prone to catastrophe.
Congrats!! I googled this problem (of course finding it to be "impossible"). However, just watching how tedious it was gave me the jitters. I don't have such fine motor skills. Perhaps after the caffeine settles I'll give it a go. Thanks for taking the time to video your adventure.
thank you! Same problem magically appeared after labeller left in reach of kids. This is the most fiddly-arse thing I have done in my entire life - but it worked!!
One reason that can cause this fault is if you pull the tape out with your hand while the tape cassette is in the machine, as the ink ribbon doesn't get wound back in by the motor in the P-touch machine, and sticks to the backing of the tape because of this excess ribbon. Always use the feed option on the P-touch instead, and this should stop it happening maybe.
Great pull down however it wasnt necessary as the laminate was just stuck under the guide designed for just the black/coloured tape. Also if the black / coloured tape is cut it can be spliced with a bit of the sticky tape part....like splicing of old music tapes. Anyway thanks for your vid. It made me realise i didnt have to pull mine apart to fix it.
Thanks, it was a pain in the ass, but I was able to get mine working again. Every time I put it back together the pins would pinch the tape and bind it up, so you have to be really careful to line them up.
I have a PT7600 and the tape was a little bit easier to get into. This video really helped. I got this from my corporate office with no proof of purchase. I called Brother and they just gave me a hard time about not having my receipt. The tech from brother kept asking me for proof of purchase.
Just had to do this on a 12mm cart. Like an idiot I didn't make a note of the route the clear tape takes round the pillars and I think I've got it wrong - it squeaks a bit, hence my visit here. Unfortunately I couldn't see how it goes so the search continues.
Unbelievable! It really works. Thanks for your video. But I like to use the compatible cassette now, I bought the Fimax brand black on white label tape on Amazon.com last month, it is cheaper than the OEM tape, and works well too.
Not bad, a bit long, better narrative next time...practice on a spent cartridge...That's how I learned to repair these expensive bastard's...love hate! LOL!

Thank you! This cassette has been my nemesis and you helped me fix it instead of throwing it out. :-)

Thank you so much for this video! The cartridges aren't inexpensive and I broke one after only 3 labels. Your instruction saved it!
Glad I could help!
Worked perfect, Thank You, I wish they didn't waste so much tape with every label too...
So glad I found this. I have two tapes that this happened too. You are a genius!!! Thank you!!

Thank you! Felt empowered knowing what the problem was!

Thanks mate ! You made my day
I am really interested in the metal tools you are using to open. Can you share a link
Metal spudgers, they sell on eBay along with other mobile phone repair tools.
Thank you!
I CANNOT believe that worked. Thanks a bunch.

Just returned 3 to shop today. what a bad product!
Can you fix the color of your printer to? :-)
Thank you! Worked great!

Another video that could have been great if the camera would have been placed correctly....

YOUR FUCKING HAND IS IN THE FUCKING WAY..
or you can buy 2 for 10 in amazon
HAMMEERRRRRRR, BRO

I'm going to give my Ptouch machines away. Looking for a less wasteful and better engineered product for labeling needs.
Yes that's my main issue:it just leaves a hole of a lot of label on the edges. Otherwise it's awsome!
I would of just returned it and got my money back or replacement. Problem solved!
Figure out how to fix it BEFORE filming.
