For the first 10 years of my life (1942/52) we had a hut that my father built from two former day huts located in the farmers field on the cliff top overlooking Brambles Chine, Colwell Bay.
Down a steep set of steps cut into the cliff to the beach with my bucket, spade and old car tyre !!
Spent idyllic weekends and all summer holidays there.
The ventriloquist (Charles Magill), who performed at the holiday camp on the other side of the chine used to scare me rotten when he used to poke one of his puppets out the window and make me jump as I went past his nearby hut.
Happy days and plenty of prawns that my dad used to go netting for early in the mornings.
Thanks for the video. Quite a lot of development since then and no rowing boats on the slipway but as you say the natural tranquil beauty still persists.

We used to come here in the late 50's early 60's as a family. We stopped in a guest house at Freshwater, but preferred the beach at Colwell Bay. Somehow it doesn't appear to be as big as I remember.

Spent every summer on the isle of wight from the mid 60’s to the late 70’s. When England used to be England. Totland bay and Colwell bay were actually pretty popular places back in the day. We used to go to Compton bay though because you could surf there. Last time i went back to Compton bay half the car park had been washed away along with the beach shop. Also Blackgang had fallen into the sea, so a whole load of my childhood memories had disappeared. I guess thats what happens when you live a long time.

We had our family holiday every year on the IOW. Based in Norton Green, which was a quick stroll down the lane past Golden Hill Fort and straight onto Colwell beach. Hours and hours spent collecting sea glass, exploring the beach and walks over to Totland Bay for tea. There used to be a little beach hut shop at Colwell that sold paddle boards and inflatable dinghies. Bought a new one every year! Happy days.

@jackryanmiller You're not wrong about Golden Hill Fort being haunted! Our sons went cycling and decided to explore the Fort. Frightened them to death and they never went again. Same thing happened in the long underground tunnel at the Needles Battery; something just not right there.

The Friday morning swim ladies are a regular event and that gives away the time is early morning.
It would get much busier by Colwell Chine later in the day. There’s an Away Resorts holiday park and other sites like Linstone. Definitely not as quiet as implied here.
Later the big boats will arrive and the RIB will be taxying the crews back and forth to the hut.
Kayaking and paddle boards will be out and the revetments becomes busy.
Anyone arriving at noon on a sunny day expecting quiet solitude will be very disappointed.
