One way I’ve been looking into gamifying my housework that would work with an RPG theme is by setting each task a hit point amount of damage then having a set of monsters and baddies that you roll (or pick depending on how much time you have that day/week/month) to defeat. The more tasks you do, the more damage you do until the monsters defeated! I saw a sheet like it on Pinterest I think, or my friend shared it with me I can’t remember
@@JashiiCorrinyou can tweak this over time by allocating more hit points to tasks you didn’t achieve as desired in previous months and fewer to tasks you easily and regularly completed.
I've been using an RPG style notion set-up for a while and I love it, and can totally see it working on paper as well. For me, I have an "academia" skill level, which has courses as sub-skills -- based on hours studied. Every exam passed is an obtained "scroll", and a uni year passed is a magical book. Uni is the main quest, and I have random side quests for various things through the year! I also like to name sections of journals/notion based on video games -- inventory (wishlist, recipe book, gift ideas go there), character stats ("skills" or habits) ect.
On RPGing, one idea is to count each month (or cycle) as a level, setting main quests (your objectives), noting down side quests and awarding yourself a set amount of xp when you finish a task/quest or complete an habit you are tracking...and then you can see how much xp you gain by the end of the year. You could also add HP points for when you do something good/bad for your health, and/or MP for tasks linked to professional development
I'd definitely be interested to see you have another go at the Neapolitan notebook. I always find it so interesting when people work on non-white pages. 💜
Thank you, as always, for taking us along in your setup planning. I always hit a wall of panic/overwhelm trying to come up with new ideas for my own journal/setups, and your videos always help me to work around that overwhelm in a 'it's cool if it's not perfect, we can try something different the next time 😊' kind of way. For an RPG theme for the '25 25s in 2025', may I suggest Collection Quest/Achievements? Lots of RPGs have these Side Quests as just extra bits that may or may not connect to the main quest and they aren't as structured as the other Side Quests.
@1:47 - re: your Campus notebook. When I first got into bullet journaling I did the same thing. I got a plain notebook and jotted down thoughts of what I wanted to include in my bujo, sketched out trial layout plans, etc. It was super useful.
When I do year in review, I just ask myself three questions that I can then answer however I want. Usually one of them is “what does the future look like” and others are some form of wins and challenges.
When I do yearly reflection questions I go through my life categories and write down things about each categories. Its a good way to do a whole balanced life review for a year :D
I would love to see the neopolitan journal, mainly because I would love to see the kraft paper/blackout paper layout idea videos that would probably come with it LOL! I have a blackout journal and a few kraft paper journals myself, and although I have the markers for them, I feel like there isn't very much content around general layout ideas. I'd love to see videos like that :)
Thank you for the inspiration video, Jess. I've made some decisions to put my Goals into Notion in 2025 for more flexibility, and doing more intentional weekly breakdowns of action items in my journal. I think this will help me avoid the "empty page" vs. "not enough pages" conundrum during setup. I'm a type of planner that the year *must* fit in one book to be happy.
Currently planning my 2025 journals while watching through your videos. It'll be my first year with a yearly collections journal and a daily journal where I actually use dailies and not just a modified weekly
I'm thinking about doing an rpg style goal journal in 2025, because I think making it a game will make doing it a lot more fun and I love drawing RPG fantasy style stuff. So, I'm pretty excited to see your 2025 journal setups!
I love the idea of an RPG-themed journal. I have no idea how I'd implement it, but goals could be set up as "objectives" and each set task would be one of the sub-steps to complete the objective and then things like daily or weekly activities can be marked with streaks, XP amounts, or something that adds up to give you a badge or bonus toward the objective. You can also use a skill tree similar to the Level 10 life and then the things you want to do (like the 25 in '25) are each a badge in the skill tree. Then, when you complete a certain amount, you get to level up that part of your life, like some projects or activities being related to Intelligence (personal or professional development), Stamina (physical health), Charisma/Charm (Vogel stuff), Loyalty (family stuff), or other descriptors for skills, like Cooking etc.
I am loving thsi video! I'm hoping to go back and watch the video that you did for the set up of these spreads to get a better understanding of some of them. I'm liking a lot of them.
So your "Favorites" page, I have something similar and I use to track things i watched, read, or did. Kinda like a Take Note. So I write in the books that I read, new youtubers I found (you will go in my Nov box), movies, TV shows, Tattoos (because I have gotten 2 new ones this year) and stuff like that. You could add the first time you ate somewhere new, a new place you have gone to, and so on. I love your Side Quest idea so that is going into my 2025. I always think of something and not write it down only to think about months going "Darn it! Well it was a good idea at the time." My month cover pages I use to stick my printed covers for the books that I read that month. But I don't know if thats what I will be doing to 2025 because my daily pages will be done more of the Bullet Journal way so they will just run into each other. My plan was to just break up the month by putting in the Name of the month where it is needed.
Neopolitan for the first half of the year and the composition style for the other half. Start with the harder option and then you'll have a chill rest of the year :)
Thank you for this walkthrough. I recently looked into my journal. I've been doing bullet journal for about 3 years. Good to look through and see what works and what doesn't . 'Writing a sentence a day' for every day of the month is going to be a win! Brain dump also is a win. Financial and chore log is a 2025 try. Symptom and period log 2025 will be a try. I am going to try an annual and daily setup in 2025. I’ve been considering it for most of 2024 but didn’t do it. I’ve got a composition book that is also my top candidate for the daily notebook. Yes, please to the tips on the every other line highlight.
Have considered calling goals quests? Definitely a key part of RPG, you get main, or story, quests for the main objectives and side quests for optional but nice to do ( 25 in 25 possibly)
Hi ! This video was really interesting, so thanks. I prefer the white pages 'because I think that's more comfortable but the black notebook can be original...
You could pencil in some of the structure for the Year In Review and Favourite's pages and to help guide you and if anything changes about what you want to record, just erase the pencil!
17:10 the year in review page doesn't need to have the prompts locked in, instead for things like this I write myself notes on post it's, it can be switched up and changed but you have a starting point for your train of thought, that helps me a lot 😊
An idea to gamify your 25 25 in 25 u can put a 5 limit goal to them for progress, for example if u don’t do 5 of each u can’t do 6th in one category. If not 10 in each u can’t do 11 in one. This way areas like leisure that u tend to neglect get intentional focus to be done
I’d love to see what you do with a Neapolitan style notebook. I’ve got a blackout journal I’m not sure what to do with so would like to see some inspo.
Another thought for the "Year In Review" - prehaps don't create the layout until the end of the year, just put a post-it-note with the heading in the place you hope to put it. That way if you add more to your yearly collections you can move the post-it-note if needed. And you can designe the "Year In Review" spread to fit the style needed when you get to the end of the year.
In context for the financial tracking, if you have an excel page for it, go for it! Me, personally, I have to record our purchases, savings, and income by paper, but when I first started, I didn't want it in my main journal, like some people do. I wanted a specific journal just for finances, going over multiple years, so I can see trends in spending (what's needed, what we can cut out to save money), as well as which months (barring emergencies and other life events that happen spontaneously) are typically more expensive, such as Holiday months and months with lots of birthdays. The first notebook I used was an A5 cheap notebook, and that lasted me 4 years, starting in May 2020 and ending this past May. The rest of the year I'm covering in a TN insert. Next year, and going until 2027, I'll be using a Traveler's size A&O because it's slimmer and easier to fit in my purse. Again, this is what works for me, and I understand if it isn't for everyone, I just thought I'd offer my own experience.
A suggestion for the "Year In Review" page. Since it is an open page layout you could just do a sentance format of a thoughts summary of the year after completing your W.A.N.T. list.
You read my mind dear Jess! Have been brainstorming my 2025 journal requirements and this video really helped! So happy to see that you are working towards wedding organising. Love weddings ❤ I wish you happy planning 😊 I’m a B5 girl so selfishly would love to see you choose the same so I can copy your setups more easily 🫣 😊
Year in review could have a page washi taped in or on a sticky note with question options so it has more structure available without having to decide at the beginning of the year. I keep review templates in Notion so I can do them in the journal page without rewriting the sections/questions each week/month/quarter/year. I have found I do far better reviewing each week with my reset checklist as part of it.
As someone who's seen your last Neapolitan notebook and absolutely loved it, let me ask you some simple questions. Would you be ok doing your daily spreads on blackout paper? More specifically, would you be ok with writing all of your daily spreads for any given week in gel pens? Also, are you okay with each cycle rolling from one type of paper to another? If you were working on your daily spreads and noticed that the very next page was a different kind of paper, would you keep going, or would you stop and wait for a new week before continuing on? Perhaps these questions are harsh and you've probably already thought of them, but I just wanted to put them out there. I love watching you experiment with your everyday journal, but I also want you to be happy using it as well. 😁😁
No they’re very fair questions! I’ve been asking myself the same 😝 I think I’d probably have to pick themes that could carry across from one colour to the next because I’d want the notebook to be in order 🤔 with the blackout, I’d still probably mainly go with sticking in other paper to write daily logs, but make them dot grid and theme appropriate. Still needs some thought!
for the RPG aspect of the 25 25's in 2025: I think I would do it by grouping the different things into "skill" categories? like, media consumption (books, movies, etc) could all level up one skill basically, and the more you fulfill of the group the better the effects. so, if you complete one of the group items (25 books) you get a certain skill level. two (books and movies) gives you the skills plus maybe a compound effect, and all items in the group (movies, books, and series) give you a skill bonus and perhaps an additional reward
if it's stats based, then that could also tie in the character sheet and the level 10 life. each area refers to a specific stat, personal development could be INT for example. goals related to that could increase the stat, and levels could be indicative of skills (or vice versa)
Give Habitica a try to help develop the RPG theme! It's a silly, cute app that helps with productivity and completing tasks that gamifies the process. Also, the idea of using the inside cover as a sort of mini commonplace is really neat; I might start doing that myself. Thanks for the video 💜
I really suggest the one little word class by aliedwards... I really enjoyed it this year. I think you would also... also on getting things done the adhd anti planner by Dani Donavan has alot of suggestions Including gamifying stuff.
Re the one little word class It's 50 bucks tho but it's self paced and at worst you'll get a cool album/journal to show at the end of it with prompts... at best it'll help frame your word and actions.
One of the things a friend of mine does with her WotY is a “what I think my word will look like in practice”, where she lists out examples of how she expects the word to guide her choices and actions in various areas of her life. If I can find one of her blogs where she’s done this, I’ll drop the link as a reply to this comment lol. But also - if you have a Woty that’s not being brought into your monthly spreads, sometimes you need to make space to do that so it’s in front of you as you go about life…sorta like a box or whatever that prompts you: “what area of my life am I being conscious of this month, what do I expect that to look like?” or something like that. If you hit the end of the first quarter and it’s Just Not Resonating, pick a new word :) No reason you can’t do a Quarterly word, either! Life moves fast lol 💜
Maybe try a different version of "New Things" where you pick the top "new thing" you tried for the week and list that. For example if you do five new things in a week, instead of recording all of them just write down the best one. Maybe this would be a way to still do "New Things" if you wanted to without it being as big of a list.
"Persnickety-biscut" (spelling?) - I love that! I'm from the US. Is that a common term in Australia? I've heard the term "persnickety" here but your phrasiology is new to me. I love it. I also love Australian verbiage and accent. You're one of my fav YT channels.
Thanks! 💜 not a common Australian slang, but it’s common on this channel 😂 it’s my alternative to staying I’m a prissy or picky b*tch 😝 a bit more RUclips appropriate, haha Only took about a weekend of actively using it to make it part of my common vocabulary 😂
For RPG themes, what about Reputation? You could do it for Vogel/Parents/Family/Friends and do it based on quality time -- like, "3 hours of QUALITY time" (definition of quality is would need to be set up before hand), and you'd have levels or rep to gain -- "neutral" "friendly" "respected" "loyal" "sworn" "bloodsworn" (or whatever you think is best!) And while you may not start at 0 since you already know them all, it could be based on how much rep you gain over the year, and maybe put that towards a lifetime reputation?
I’m not sure I have any kind of feature for adding polls in the comments, but I’ll just be counting up how many times people say “Neapolitan” vs “Composition” 💪
Oh I love the idea of 20 things 25 times. That seems more doable and can be tracked/checked on about every two weeks. One of my favorites was writing the government. While I’m nowhere near 24 times, it’s still a good reminder that there are causes I can contribute too.
Why automatically go to throw away a notebook you don’t like instead of give it away? Wasteful mindset, especially for such a heavy consumer. Glad you happened to like it.
I mean I say "throw it away" in the sense of put it in my donation box 😝 I'm not really in the habit of trashing items that can still be used by someone else But it might upset you to know that now as it's all used up...I'm gonna throw it away fo' reals 😂

For the 25 25s in 2025, maybe experience points, or naming them after different types of skill points, like Charisma, strength, intelligence, etc?
I was very much picturing the Sims' separation between needs and skills too
I would love to see the black out paper version
The 52 goals in 52 sounds like a great way to set yourself up for sucess!
Yeah should be more manageable and targeted 🤔
Neapolitan Journal!
Give Habitica a try to help develop the RPG theme! It's a silly, cute app that helps with productivity and completing tasks that gamifies the process.
Also, the idea of using the inside cover as a sort of mini commonplace is really neat; I might start doing that myself. Thanks for the video 💜
Most welcome! And thanks for the recommendation 😄💜
I downloaded Habitica based on your comment and I just got a pet dragon because I did the laundry today! 💪😂
@@CarolinaRodriguez-mn7sx Oh cool, I hope it works out for you! The dragons are really cute ♥
I really suggest the one little word class by aliedwards... I really enjoyed it this year. I think you would also... also on getting things done the adhd anti planner by Dani Donavan has alot of suggestions Including gamifying stuff.
Re the one little word class
It's 50 bucks tho but it's self paced and at worst you'll get a cool album/journal to show at the end of it with prompts... at best it'll help frame your word and actions.
Yeah that book is on my wish list! 💜
Let it go focus should be labeled the Fuckit Bucket. 🙌😆
Where did you get the wide grid tape from? It is so versatile and sets things off beautifully
Neopolitan style!!
Future mission= your mission should you choose to accept
Neapolitan. I’d be curious to see how you tackle it now.
Is there anyway you can make a wedding planner? Really wanna try to make my own planner but have no clue where to start lol
why would I have tore up that page and start all over just because of that one error 😂 Im a work in progress! Thank you for that and for this video! ❤
If you hit the end of the first quarter and it’s Just Not Resonating, pick a new word :)
No reason you can’t do a Quarterly word, either! Life moves fast lol 💜
Very valid points 👏 love the idea of listing ways to put the word into practice 💜
Maybe try a different version of "New Things" where you pick the top "new thing" you tried for the week and list that. For example if you do five new things in a week, instead of recording all of them just write down the best one. Maybe this would be a way to still do "New Things" if you wanted to without it being as big of a list.
Got the notification just as i was starting my own 2025 journal planning lol
Eyyy! Great timing 😄💜
Do you have links to the stickers and washi tapes used?
25 in 25 could be "Bi-Weekly Special Events" or something like that. 😂
I’ve been thinking about ways to try and gamify my life - it’s honestly the only way I get things done 😂
Yeah I’m thinking it would really help me to lean into that more 💜
"Persnickety-biscut" (spelling?) - I love that! I'm from the US. Is that a common term in Australia? I've heard the term "persnickety" here but your phrasiology is new to me. I love it. I also love Australian verbiage and accent. You're one of my fav YT channels.
Thanks! 💜 not a common Australian slang, but it’s common on this channel 😂 it’s my alternative to staying I’m a prissy or picky b*tch 😝 a bit more RUclips appropriate, haha
Only took about a weekend of actively using it to make it part of my common vocabulary 😂
Oh that’s an awesome idea! 😄💜 thanks for sharing!
I'd love to see your comeback in a Neapolitan journal, even if I know it's your Nemesis 😈 But that's exactly what's exciting, don't you think? 😇
Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking 😂 How would I tackle it when I'm a bit more "practiced" 🤔
Question: Do you keep your scribbles notebook?
I always keep mine. Looking back through them is fun❤️🇨🇦
I hope you pick the RPG-theme, I would love to see how you fit everything in the theme ❤
Glad there’s interest for it! 💜
Would you struggle with the black paper for daily logging? That would drive me insane x
I did last time I went Neapolitan, but I feel like I’m ready to take on the challenge again mayhaps 🤔
It's funny how ur PLANING the planing
Gotta plan your planner before you use your planner to plan your plans! 😂
neopolitan journal! is there a poll?
I’m not sure I have any kind of feature for adding polls in the comments, but I’ll just be counting up how many times people say “Neapolitan” vs “Composition” 💪
Oh I love the idea of 20 things 25 times. That seems more doable and can be tracked/checked on about every two weeks. One of my favorites was writing the government. While I’m nowhere near 24 times, it’s still a good reminder that there are causes I can contribute too.
Love that you using it as a way to help up your cause contributions 💪
Neapolitan
So tempted 😝
Income tracker = gold tracker
Ooo good idea! 💜
Why automatically go to throw away a notebook you don’t like instead of give it away? Wasteful mindset, especially for such a heavy consumer. Glad you happened to like it.
I mean I say "throw it away" in the sense of put it in my donation box 😝 I'm not really in the habit of trashing items that can still be used by someone else
But it might upset you to know that now as it's all used up...I'm gonna throw it away fo' reals 😂
Is there anyway you can make a wedding planner? Really wanna try to make my own planner but have no clue where to start lol
