- We teamed up with artist and activist Corinne Loperfido to create a new mini series Called Rethinking Materials, where she teaches you how to make art out of stuff that you already have!
Through costume design + wearable art, radically inclusive events, or one-on-one services as a decluttering doula or creative consultant, Corinne's goal is to help people overcome familial or societal guilt and shame so that they can live a life of empowered self-expression. Corinne believes in the importance of reclaiming our personal power through body literacy, self love, and anti-consumerism.
Corinne recently launched a kickstarter to help finish her tiny home art studio on wheels made with reclaimed materials! Go support her here:

*5 minute crafts is gonna be pretty silent after this*
You know, bottle caps are made from really tough, high quality food grade plastic. You can melt them down and make sling shots, rifle stocks, even filament for 3D printers, which can then be used to make CAR PARTS! 👌🏻
And they're easier to process too than the bottle body
Wow... this is incredible. Thank you for showing us small ways we can help keep waste out of landfills, and have fun doing it!
Totally expected this to turn surreal at some point, was pleasantly surprised it didn't.
*pulls out omega mart lemon*
Ok, so you can see here that if we just use our Swiss Army Knife around about the middle of this object we can actually cut a hole through it and use that for all sorts of things.
This is really all about seeing the value in each "trash" object, no matter how scared they may be.
I was dissapointed. I'm not here for the hippy stuff.
It feels very surreal while also just true.
A really great recycling trash to art project would be to figure out how to recycle single-use shopping bags (High-Density Polyethylene, or HDPE for short) into filament for 3-D printers. Most 3-D printer filament is acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polylactic acid (PLA), but there must be someone out there with a better chemistry/materials education than me who can figure out how to make printer filament from HDPE.
If someone can figure that out that would be absolutely amazing and save so many plastic bags from ending up littering the ocean and the surrounding environment.
You're actually 100% correct - HDPE filament does exist and it is one of the few 3D printer filaments out there that are food safe, giving it a huge number of use cases. Unfortunately, the problem most manufacturers run into when looking to recycle single-use shopping bags is contamination, either via dyes used in the bags or waste material left in the bag that requires expensive and time-consuming cleaning processes. There is also the issue of HDPE filament being particularly difficult to print with, requiring higher print temps and quite easy to delaminate. Turning HDPE plastics into filament is possible, but certainly not easy.
Recycling typically creates more waste than it saves. Except aluminum.
@@J0SHUAKANE This is a common misconception and only true in very specific situations. I advise anyone reading this to do their own research - recycling is much more conscious than it used to be.
@@pretzelstyx9730 no dude, the toxic sludge created from recycling paper is still a serious concern that gets ignored. It still takes more resources, transportation, & processing to reuse plastics than to create new items from raw petroleum. These issues were never addressed, only ignored because "recycling saves resources", which if true, you would be paid to do it. Thats why there is money in recycling aluminum, because it does save resources.
your installation at HOER was one of my favorites. I probably spent the most time of anywhere inspecting everything in there.
I came off social media and the only thing making me miss it was loperfidos page, so glad you've got her on this channel! She's a constant source of inspiration. MORE PLEASE XOXO
Corinne! This video is so amazing and informative :) thank you!
Trash flowers! Is this the artist that did the room with all of the floppy discs, cd’s, cell phones and pill bottles? That room moved me, hard. Trash Temple. Wow. AMAZING.
This is awesome! Thank you!
This is gonna help save some meows and wolves
All of their art looks so cool omg 😭💗💕
The artist's color theory is actually incredible. I couldn't imagine what monstrosity I would create with such a wide range of colors and yet she made it perfectly fine and surreal.
That's really cool!
This message is SO IMPORTANT! #recycle #upcycle
I can’t wait for more of this!

Hello person reading this comment
Hi
oh no
Hello to you too
WHOA, I'm visually impaired, and this is innovative, well done Corinne.
..... what's the point of "eternal bounty" if you can't turn it into "endless consumer products". 0:30
Marker caps look like noodle beads! You can even use the marker caps without the wire and just string them into jewelry. You could also paint the caps and things if you didn’t want anything to look like trash.
SO VERY COOL thank you for sharing!
came here expecting weird ass omega mart like content. got this instead

Where am I how did I get here its 2AM
There are tribal people that have been doing this, better known is the african tribe in Ethopia the Daasanach. Know world history lol
🤔 Yeah yeah, stow the ideology, this planet is ours to spend! Just cut to the crafting.. You want to be nicer to the planet, do as I do, buy old equipment, cars, machinery, fix it and use it. Only replace things that are uneconomical to repair or have failed completely. The amount of "goody two shoes" I've come across in my short life that are worse polluters than me (a petrol head) is astounding. No, your snot box hybrid is NOT cleaner than my 74 V8, not by a long shot, also three new cars in 9 years? 😂 Some people!
Hi
That is NOT art. 'Art' made from trash is idiotic.
Spoken like someone who doesn't know a thing.
says someone who knows nothing about art
Try telling that to a legitimate activist, see what happens.
